Going head-to-head with Utada
Prize in Nintendo's latest promotional contest is the chance to play Tetris against Japanese pop legend Utada Hikaru.
Pop icon, Utada Hikaru--also known as Utada--has long been associated with video games. In addition to contributing tunes to the Kingdom Hearts and Kingdom Hearts II sound tracks, her single "Easy Breezy" was used on Japanese television ads for the Nintendo DS. Now, Nintendo is offering fans a chance to challenge the US-born singer to a game of Tetris at a special event to be held on August 12 in Tokyo. The Club Nintendo Web site announced the contest this week; it can be entered by buying a select number of DS games and entering an enclosed serial number on the Club Nintendo Web site. Alternatively, contestants may enter a drawing to win tickets to Utada's UNITED 2006 tour instead. Up to 30 people will be selected for the Tetris event, while 504 pairs of tickets will be given away. It has been known for some time that Utada is an avid Tetris player and has been long featured on Japanese variety shows trouncing other celebrities at the game.
