Now Playing: Thimbleweed Park - Launch Trailer

Thimbleweed Park originally released in 2017. Designed by famed Maniac Mansion creators Ron Gilbert and Gary Winnick, the game is a satire of the television series Twin Peaks, The X-Files, and True Detective. It also features retro-styled pixel visuals and five playable characters that players can switch between during the course of the adventure.

"Thimbleweed Park is a time capsule that reminds us what we love about the point-and-click genre while still retaining many of its unremedied issues," critic Matt Espineli wrote in GameSpot's review. "Its amusing open world is packed with infectious personalities and clever puzzles that magnify the joy of its experiences. And its efforts to shift beyond the template of its predecessors and contemporaries make it surprisingly affecting, especially if you're a longtime devotee of point-and-click adventures."

Epic offers a new free game through its store every two weeks. The next one players will be able to pick up is Slime Rancher, which will be available from March 7-21.

Funny that people would rather pay full price for this game on Steam than get it for free on Epic.

Screw that greedy anti-consumer Epic store and their forced third party exclusives. I'll buy this game on Steam.

@speed45823: But it's ok for games to be exclusive on Steam, right? because most games until 2018 requiered Steam even when bought someplace else.

Also, "greedy"? are you 5 years old? are these none-profit organizations? no, they are here to make money. At least Epic takes only 12% and not 30 like Valve.

@gargar: Also, Valve gives freedom to both developers and consumers to choose where to buy and sell games from alongside with Steam. They let developers / publishers to generate unlimited free keys on Steam to sell on third party sites creating a self-competition. Those devs / pubs gets to keep 100 percent or close to it amount of profit for themselves without Valve taking a cent. They don't control the pricing or discount sales and lets developers and publishers to set that. Steam's direct and biggest competitor is GOG but they have various other big and small competitors. Unlike Epic who is anti-consumer, anti-competitive and a monopoly with their forced exclusivity BS, Valve does not restrict competition, they welcome it. It took 15+ years of hard work, dedication and being pro-developer / pro-consumer which led to Valve / Steam being the market leader in the PC game industry, not to mention Steam being THE most feature rich digital platform in the video game industry, more than any other competitor's platform both on PC and on consoles.

@gargar: Epic giving developers more money, that's just another Epic / media spin. Here's why. The whole debate about 30 percent vs 12 percent is a farce. Its not about the percentage cut. It never was about the cut. Its about Epic giving these greedy publishers an upfront bag of cash to sign exclusivity deals. That's all.

If it was about the cut then, these publishers would've moved to other platforms that has lower cut than Epic, who've been into digital distribution platform a lot longer than Epic. Platforms like Discord, which asks for 10 percent of the cut which is lower than Epic's. Humble Bundle, which asks for 5 percent of the cut through Humble Widget which is lower than both Discord and Epic. Itch.io, which asks for basically whatever percent of the cut you want to give them, which is lower than all the others combined. And yet a lot of developers and publishers choose Steam over any of them Why ? Because Steam provides THE most features and services to both developers and customers more than any other platforms in the gaming industry, PC or consoles.

For the record, other major platforms like GOG, Microsoft, Sony, Amazon, Google, Apple and others also take 30 percent of the cut while providing / giving back significantly less features and services in return. I wanna emphasize on Sony and Microsoft (Playstation and Xbox) who are the biggest gaming platforms next to PC, Who've been taking that 30 percent cut from developers and publishers for decades now while doing business with them. They don't provide nowhere as near as many features and services as Steam does. And yet, we can still see developers / publishers happily put all their games on those consoles and make huge profits.

Bottom line is simple. Out of all of these platforms, only Steam gives back the most features and services to both developers and consumers, in other words, Steam earns their cut AND they're adding and improving new features and services every single year for no extra charge. Not only that but Valve has also reduced their 30 percent cut to 20 percent for those who meets certain sales milestone. So like I said, it never was about the cut. Its all about greedy developers / publishers getting paid upfront a bag of cash by Epic for exclusive deals while shoving down all sorts of anti-consumer / anti-competitive policies on us customers.

And to give you a rough idea of the amount of features and services Steam provides, take a lot at the following chart. Bear in mind that, it only lists the major features of Steam and not all of them as there's plenty more out there as well as all the new features that are going to be implemented in 2019 on Steam. And these are just some of the features and services that are public knowledge and have been revealed by Valve themselves. There's a whole host of other infrastructures that Valve operates and maintains on a daily basis.

https://steamcommunity.com/groups/steamworks#announcements/detail/1697194621363928453

And to further reiterate the point of developers getting more money from the lesser cut, in most cases, especially for big companies, that is not true. Most of the profit does not goes to the developers. It goes straight to the higher-up CEOs, CFOs, board members and the likes. If anything goes wrong, its the developers who gets either paycuts or the axe aka gets fired from those companies, while the higher-ups sit on their ever increasing pile of cash lighting cigars with their hundred dollar bills. We've seen it time and again. Here are just some recent examples.

@speed45823: Developers choose steam because it's basically what every single PC gamer uses. That's it. People taking about this have zero common sense.

If Fortnite continues to be successful for long enough, Epic store will become a beast.

@speed45823: It's because it's just that popular. Most people don't really care about anything else other than playing games, having people to play with in said games and having lots of games available in the store. That's all you need.

The thing about Epic is that they will probably continue to make games, which will of course be exclusive to their store.

@lonesamurai00: I don't have a PS Pro. Never felt the need to upgrade because, unlike you, I can appreciate games regardless of how they perform/look. You know, like an actual person who enjoys videogames.

Your problem is that you fail to realize that people who are so obsessed with performance are actually laughable. You're missing the point entirely.

@Arkhalipso: Uh no you are missing the point entireleeee... Having the preference of great graphics and smooth performance makes me no less the gamer than you. The only difference is that I don't see it, or wear it as some badge of honor like you do. Yes I do enjoy games that look and perform a certain way, but then that topic wasn't what this article is about was it.

Everyone, everybody plays games for their own reasons. For me enjoying great graphics and performance are but one of many reasons where PC Gaming is concerned. I mean where's the fun in knowing the game that you're playing uses checkerboard rendering and seeing actually seeing it while you're playing?

@Arkhalipso: Grand Theft Auto V on the PC has a Youtube channel for every gamer who likes the game. People have modded the game and have quite literally turned the game into virtual life simulator, some Youtube channels show the game strictly with graphics mods only, some have modded the game and changed every car in the game to real life car models and not the fake cars that come in the game, and some are even making movies using adobe software and the in-game editor. Each channel is from a different person modding GTA V. These channels draw between 200 thousand, to 5 million views each year. That's one game on one platform with viewers who watch GTA V being played for their own reasons. This game on Youtube is generating money for Youtubers, and giving the game attention for Rockstar, and keep in mind the game will be three years old this year, but interest and sales of the game are kept alive on the PC because of the modding potential.

Many have even been inspired to buy a Gaming PC, buy GTA V and start modding the game themselves. This has happened many times because they tell us on the channel, and some are women who knew nothing about PC Gaming before watching.

Let's flip the situation, let's say those same people the PC version of the game in every way, both in playing the game and watching the game being played. Are those same people not considered gamers to you because they prefer the PC version of the game?

Everyone has there own reasons for playing, or not wanting to play a game, but saying that they are or are not gamers is just plain dumb. For me it's not just a lack of high/ultra level graphics and performance that prevents me from playing a game on a console, I can give you more reasons, but like those other people that I mentioned, they are my own reasons.

Again though, this is not what the article is about.

@speed45823: You right, but you forget one tiny detail: Steam is the biggest digital store by far. Waaaay bigger than the other options you've mantiond.

SO, why does more and more publishers decides to release on Epic store? because of Fortnite. The game provides a huge amount of traffic to Epic store.

Also, Valve have billions I believe. They can pay up front if they so desire, or lower their cut a bit so small/medium publishers can stay alive. But for some reason people are okay with them not doing it. So don't blame small publishers like Deep Silver for taking money in exchange for excluisivity. AAA single player games are a huge risk today, especially for a publisher that is like 2% the size of EA.

Anyhow, it's just a damn storefront, who gives a ****.

@gargar: Of course. Steam has the biggest digital distribution userbase in the world. What Epic has...is Fortnite players. The difference here is that on Steam, people open their accounts to buy games, while on Epic, they open their accounts to play the free-to-play game called Fortnite. Yes, it will create visibility but not on the same context.

Also, Valve has never engaged in any forced third party exclusive deals with anyone in their 15+ years of doing business cause they know its anti-consumer. They do the complete opposite and gives customers the option to choose where and how to buy their games from. Also Valve did reduce their cut from 30 to 20 percent for those who meets certain sales milestone. I'm sure they'll further work out this term as time goes by. Either way, as a customer and a PC gamer, I'm happy with Steam and all the facilities I get to enjoy on Steam.

Keep desperately floundering with your Epic (failure of a) Store. You can buy games from developers and studios until you go broke doing it, but you just won't have the user numbers to make it work boo boo.
