Gran Turismo 5 delay explained

All I can say is this better be the best racing game ever it better be perfect.

Oh well seeing as it is probably the only PS3 game I can see myself purchasing this year, I guess I can wait another month ... sigh

My God, how many times has this game been delayed? since 2005? I know many people subscribe to the belief that "Oh, delays are good because it gives them time to perfect it" blah blah blah, but don't you think that now this is getting a little silly? Maybe Gearbox should step in and rescue this franchise like they did for Duke Nukem Forever.

rather wait and have a fantastic game than get a buggy untested one even if it would get patched so I really think you guys should stop complaining were talking about a month more guys chill out it means you can fork up that cash for the Limited ed. too and maybe get a racing wheel this could very easily be a game of the year or a nomine for a perfect score title

Eh its the double edged sword of gaming, if you release it too quickly and it has some flaws people complain why couldnt they just put it off for a while and fix the flaws, but when you do that you get complaints of where is the game; forza is okay, and its improved with each edition but i honestly still prefer GT 3 and 4 to Forza 3 so I have no complaint about waiting a few more months.

I don't understand why people are getting so upset, we will enjoy this amazing racing game one month later. Move on, and wait. Seriously, I am just like you guys, been waiting for the game for a long long time. But getting upset so easily about a few days delay, come on.

The Playstation 3 has been out since March 2006 a very long wait for this game. The phat 20/40/60/80/160 gigers have long since come and gone. The slim era and now into the Playstation move era. Still this game has not arrived. Hopefully it will be worth the wait.

If they'd left off the gimmicks like 3D and Eye support we'd already have the game. They could've added those features in updates for the 5% that wanted them.

"Complex systems" = its 3D support and super-duper compatibility with coming Sony products specifically, no doubt. What other reasons would cause Sony itself to intervene? Meh, in 5-10 years when all TVs come with 3D and glasses come bundled, this will still probably be a deep racer worth playing. ... I know it's really easy to scream "omg just patch this stuff later!", but PD seems really keen on never "forcing" an internet connection to get the most out of the game and have been saying that for some time.

They can give me whatever explanation they want and objectively enough is enough. Fool me once - shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. Fool me so many times! shame on you again! Doesn't matter in the end... who ever wants to buy the game will get it! I guess they did not want to compete with Black Ops release date.

Even though they made quite a good explanation about the delay, I still see it coming out in 2011.

I'm fine with delay if it's gonna be before 2011 Q2.... otherwise I'll have to force myself to forget about it for a while.

The new "Duke Nukem Forever" game? o.o

Just last week I spoke to someone who traded his PS3 in to get a 360 with Forza 3. When I told him to hold out for GT5, he laughed and said it'll never come out. I thought he was an idiot, but looks like he was more on the ball than I was.

I really wonder if they think we are really that stupid? Westwood tried this crap back in the 90s with Tiberium Sun, hyping a XMAS 1998 release date and in the end it did not ship till Aug 99, almost 9 months later. It takes time to master the game, get it in the boxes and all that stuff. They have about 8 weeks from now to get it done....wont happen. Best bet is to watch the store sites (EBgames, Gamestop, etc) They will get the release date guess from the distbs. and that will be that. I expect a month M in it and ending in -arch.

They are just guaranteeing themselves bad reviews with each delay. Oh and when they say "they think it will be out this year" that means "nope, no chance, perhaps a week after hell freezes over" I am tired of defending these A.D.D affected monkeys, I give up.

It just hit me. I know why it keeps getting delayed, it's the number of cars. By the time they finish tweaking each one, a new model year comes out and they have to start all over ha. So what we need is for every car manufacturer to stop making new cars. Then we'll get our game.

I think we will not get a single review from this game. Because once the critics get the game to review, they will be playing 24/7, until 4 months later after the release, they say the "game is awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!", and then we'll say "yes, we already know".

Too bad they just can't release like a couple of races and different cars on PSN for people to play with on Nov. 2nd. I'd be happy then.

Ten bucks says it sucks. If I'm wrong awesome, I just think it'd be hilarious for this to flop.

If this game does not score a perfect 10 from multiple video game sites and articles, then I say this delay was not necessary.

I just hope the wait will be worth it. Meanwhile I'll be playing NFS Hot Pursuit when it comes out in November :)

This seriously blows. Been practicing on gt4 to get ready, and am taking vacation from the 4th-9th.... so pretty much pd is saying I wasted 4 vacation days and their rock solid release date is now "probably " before the holidays ... And here is a question, they just decided this 3 weeks before release? I would think at this point they would have had to be mass producing disc to meet initial release numbers?

Just have it out by the end of the year. I mean you have all these other friggin great looking games coming out in the next month so it's not like GT5 is the only game coming out for the rest of the year. Just think of it this way: you can close out the year with an awesome game :)

common guys, developers and publishers dont care about customers anymore, I can bet that they are trying to pull a "gears of war 3" stunt, lets wait until next year because we can make more money that way or lets wait so it can compete as one of 2011 game of the year, etc....

@Incubus420 What are you talking about lol ? Kinect is a accessory Gran Turismo 5 is a Video game. Two COMPLETELY different markets aimed towards different people. Same with Black Ops its a Shooter Gran Turismo 5 is a Racer 2 COMPLETELY DIFFERENT Genres lol.... Call of duty is known for selling good but in no way is a Game from a different genre gonna be threaten by it. Any True Fan of the GT series will buy that instead of Call of duty all you post says is blah blah blah and more blah blah blah. I guess if Final Fantasy Versus was to come out the same time as MW3 it should be scared right ? No it shouldn't because it appeals to a lot of people who couldn't care less about a shooter. Cod Main Market is America lol Gran Turismo 5 is a international franchise. It sells well in every single Region located in the world. Look up it sales you would see the mass market in Europe....

I like how he said "you won't see too much more delay." What exactly is that suppose to mean...?!?!? That's quite a ways off from there "set in stone" date of November 2. I would really like to believe them this time.....

This game is the reason I bought a PS3 3 years ago... another month won't hurt on a game I'll be playing for the next 5 years!

I just hope GT5 won't suffer backlash for all these delays. They strive to be the perfect game but at the same time I know fanboys and trolls and even the media might try and degrade it even because of the most slightest error.

@right4dead Well, that would be right if there was NO cost at all but to develop the game. Instead, there's distribution, marketing, materials, printed covers, manuals, boxes... not talking about the seller interest (or you think stores sell games for free? Part of those 60 bucks stay at Gamestop). Anyway, I'm pretty sure they have at least 50% of profit in the 60 bucks price, so it would be around the double - 2 million copies - to break even. And they sure will sell more than that.

@ LeviHarris i think you should have stayed longer in math class, 10 million x $60 game equals $600 million dollars. they only need to sell 1 million to break even.

I think all the PS3 owners(including me) are going to be come bankrupt in 2011. PS3 2011 exclusives:Killzone 3, Infamous 2, Little Big Planet 2, Final Fantasy 13 versus, Ico collection, The Last Guardian, Rachet and Clank: All 4 One, Twisted Metal, Heros on the Move, Resistance 3, The Sly Collection, and Uncharted 3. And let's not forget about the non-exclusives. 2011 will be our golden year, and we deserve it.

If it's got a 60 million dollar budget and has been in production for five years, that means Polyphony Digital has to sell ten million copies just to break even...that's not even for a profit. Since they only get a fraction of the sales they realistically need to sell more like 13 or 14 million to turn a profit. Are there any PS3 exclusives that have sold 10 million plus copies? I don't think there are, I could be wrong. But Sony is banking on the hopes that a racing game will sell 10+ million? I just don't see that happening. Even if it is GT5. On the plus side, though, I'd rather all games had this expansive development cycle. If that were the case we wouldn't have sequel after sequel, but instead we'd have a slew of amazing games. This would be Gran Turismo 3, not Gran Turismo 5. So I give them credit for that, at least. It had better be perfect, that's all I'm saying.
