Gran Turismo 6 Gets Free Track Editor Nearly Two Years After Release

The long-awaited course-making tool has finally arrived for the PlayStation 3 racing game.

Fulfilling a promise made before Gran Turismo 6's launch in December 2013, developer Polyphony Digital has now released the racing game's long-awaited course-making editor. Called the "GT6 Track Path Editor," this tool lets you build your own track after choosing from four different themes.

As announced previously, this is done through a free iOS and Android app, which lets you create, save, and then import your courses into Gran Turismo 6 to use in the PlayStation 3 title. After applying a new update today, you'll find a "Track Path Importer" option has been added to the game's Home screen.

No Caption Provided

The Gran Turismo 6 course-making tool lets you determine the layout of a course, including fine details like the placement of curbs and other roadside items such as trees, buildings, and grandstands. Once you get it into the game, you can use it across the Free Run, Arcade, and Open Lobby modes or post it to the Community tab to share with friends.

For a closer look at the tool, watch the video below or click through the images in the gallery above.

Today's Grand Turismo 6 also makes other tweaks and changes; see the changelog below.

  • Penalties have been disabled in Free Run mode.
  • With the addition of the GT6 Track Path Editor, the maximum length of best lap replays that can be loaded in the Data Logger has been set to 20 minutes.
  • The engine sounds of certain cars have been improved.
  • GT Academy 2015 has been removed from the [SPECIAL EVENTS] section in accordance to the end of the Online Qualifier period.

Looking ahead, Polyphony Digital boss Kazunori Yamauchi, who is also the creator of the Gran Turismo series, says Gran Turismo 7 will probably launch for PlayStation 4 before 2017.

I loved GT, but I'm sad to say it's been lapped by Forza.

All i know is the standard car and premium car thing is BS if you have say 650 cars at launch and then some dlc later i can live with that instead of rehashed bs from like gt4.

Probably one of the best features to include in a racing sim. Hopefully they'll ship GT7 with it.

@lonesamurai1: I see what you did there. I honestly haven't played since A-Spec. Has GT fallen that much? So sad...

Shame GT failed to evolve, I don't see the point of having like 1000 cars, when like 500 of them are just identical to others but slightly tweaked and most of them are using old PS2 models. It's so weird, you cannot simulate that many cars accurately, there is no need to have like 20 variants of the same car, just do the one.

Games like iRacing only have like 30 odd cars or whatever, but they're all constantly patched and tweaked to make them feel as accurate as possible. I don't see the point of having hundreds of cars which don't feel like real life, it turns it into an arcade game, not a sim.

They even said that GT7 will use lots of the old cars, he said people will miss them if they go, so they'll put them in.......... WTF? Can't Sony go over there and fire someone and bring in new blood who isn't crazy?

**** kaz, **** polyphony and **** gt. I've been a GT player since 1 till 5. They have made it clear that they don't want to improve the games nor make it easy enough for you to earn cars or credits. Oh and they just killed the online for gt5 because 6 came out, eat a dick fuckers.

You know what's really fun, my ps3 crashed andninhad to format. I've lost my compete file of gt5 and all my cars and achievements. Since the normal races don't earn you shit and seasonal events are not possible because online has been killed, the game is now officially dead even if you don't plan online. I used to play split screen, not needed anymore since there's no cars to play with.

GT will never get a dime from me ever again. Oh, and forza sucks. Fakest sim of all. I'll probably get assetto corsa or project cars when I get a ps4 or new pc.

@michaelsosa8: if I recall correctly GT5 file saves are not copy protected, if you want to start again maybe you could use and edited save file. and there are still exploitable ways to earn credit with minimum effort in GT5.

@Halloll: If that really works I'll try to find a save file asap.

And do tell me about these exploitable ways to make credits with minimum effort. Only way I knew to make credits fast was seasonal events (3.5 mil per 12 mins). But online is gone, and normal races don't give shit.

@michaelsosa8: there is a really easy one to do on the Indy circuit, here's a quote from a game guide on ign

"f you are looking for experience at the expense of some grinding for high endurance levels, race your Formula GT car (assuming you have one) in the Indianapolis race of the Dream Car Championship, it takes under 7 minutes and you get 9819 xp points and 108000 credits which works out to be 78552 xp points and 864000 credits in about one hour of real time."

if you don't have a powerful enough car or the credits needed then you could save money by install a racing modkit to specific Corvette, though I don't remember which one it was.

@Halloll: that is not an effective way to make money when there are cars that cost as much as 20mil. I made 3.5+mil in 12 minutes with the seasonal events.

Also my save game is gone. I have no cars and only 20k credits. I'll be using the save file I found.

But thanks for the reply.

The idiots at Sony have determined that it was in everyone's best interest to tie up the developer with last gen nonsense instead of have a new current gen G.T. out for the holidays.

Although, it might be on the release schedule since they are pulling the free Driveclub edition from Plus so maybe they just haven't announced it yet.

are you fucking serious? i bought this game back then for this feature, and only now, when i have absolutely no interest in it anymore, they release this shit? ****.

this better ship with gt7 out of the box. i'm not buying a ps4 anytime soon but i really want PD to put turn10 back in their toes. forza motorsport is getting worse (it's insane how many FM4 features are missing from forza 5 and 6). MS is always at its best when playing catch up.

Is this why there's no Gran Turismo on PS4? They're still dicking around with the old last gen version? If Turn 10 can port over Forza 4 to X1 and call it Forza 5, so can Gran Turismo. Not that it matters anymore with a sea of racing games flooding the market.

@flyincloud1116: 6 has the Driveclub Weather mod so it's not technically a port. Even though with my brief time with it I haven't seen it in action yet.

I don't own a PS3, but I've extremely tempted to buy one for this game for the track editor alone. I have wanted a racing game with a track editor now for about 4 or 5 years. One of the first things I would make would be a road course where almost every turn has 24 degrees of banking or more.
