Gran Turismo 6 Update Returns a Classic Mode and Track
More than a year after launch, Sony updates GT6 with a new mode, car, track, and more.
More than a year after it was released, Gran Turismo 6 has received a substantial new update, part of which introduces a feature that was talked about before launch.
Patch 1.16 brings B-Spec mode to GT6, something that was conspicuously absent from the game after its inclusion in both Gran Turismo 4 and 5. In B-Spec mode, you let an AI driver take control for you in Career mode events while still being able to provide instructions to the driver. This allows you to simply watch races or complete longer endurance events without the trouble of, you know, enduring them. While this might sound pointless to some, keep in mind that car tuning--rather than the actual racing--is the real draw of the game for other players.
Also added in 1.16 is the Mini Clubman Vision GT (pictured below), which you can now buy in the game or earn by completing a lap in the new, limited time seasonal events. The Mid-Field Raceway track (above) is also new to GT6, but not the series--like B-Spec mode, it's a popular component of past GT games making its return here.
Other, smaller additions include the ability to paint custom rear wings and support for painting the Mazda LM55 Vision GT and the Chevrolet 2X Vision GT. The full details are available on the official Gran Turismo website.
GT6 was released on PlayStation 3 back in December 2013. In addition to releasing a number of updates for it since then, developer Polyphony Digital has been at work on Gran Turismo 7 for PlayStation 4. The game doesn't have an official release date yet, but series creator Kazunori Yamauchi said late last year that he expects it to be out in either 2015 or 2016.
