Grand Theft Auto 5 PC petition reaches 650,000 signatures

Will 2014 be the year Rockstar Games brings its acclaimed open-world action game Grand Theft Auto V to PC? That's the hope of the 650,000 people who have signed an online petition at Change.org calling on Rockstar to release the game for PC. This figure is up from 600,000 in October.

GTAV was released in September 2013 on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. In addition to a positive critical reception, the open-world game generated $800 million in 24 hours and more than $1 billion in three days. It has since shipped 29 million copies.

The game is widely expected to come to PC sometime in 2014. In October, multiple Eurogamer sources said GTAV would be released for PC in early 2014, while a representative for Chip maker Intel has said that GTAV is not expected to be a console-exclusive for much longer.

2008's Grand Theft Auto IV launched in April for consoles before coming to PC in December of that year.

Rockstar Games cofounder Dan Houser said in November 2012 that a PC version of the open-world game is "up for consideration," though that's all the company has said on the matter.

The petition says it is a "big shame" that GTAV is not announced for the PC, specifically calling out the modding community being a "huge part" of PC gaming. "Modded GTA is some of the most insanely fun times you can have," a line from the petition reads.

If GTAV does come to PC, it may not be the only new platform for the game. Robert W. Baird analyst Colin Sebastian contends that the game will be released for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 in 2014.
