Grand Theft Auto TV Drama Announced

The BBC is developing a TV drama about the making of Rockstar's hit action franchise Grand Theft Auto. The London-based broadcaster announced the news on Thursday, though details about the show are thin right now.

BBC Two will carry the drama, according to a release sent out today, which states only that the show will be a "drama based on Grand Theft Auto." UK-based games writer Guy Cocker, a former GameSpot editor, is working on the show.

He writes on Twitter that the 90-minute program will be a "making of" feature that focuses on the people responsible for creating the franchise.

The BBC GTA show is being produced as part of a wider initiative called "Make it Digital," which is described as a "major UK-wide initiative to inspire a new generation to get creative with coding, programming, and digital technology."

According to Cocker, Rockstar is not involved with the production of the show.

The latest entry in the GTA series is Grand Theft Auto V, which originally launched in September 2013 and has sold more than 45 million copies. The game's long-awaited online Heists mode was released earlier this week. Though it faced some server issues at launch, the exciting four-player co-op mode is now back up and running.
