Ground Control 2 announced
Massive Entertainment announces development on a sequel to its sci-fi real-time strategy game.
Massive Entertainment and NDA Productions, a Vivendi Universal studio, have announced Ground Control 2: Operation Exodus. Ground Control 2 is a 3D real-time strategy game with a sci-fi, futuristic theme that pits the evil Terran Empire against the Northern Star Alliance (NSA). Set in the year 2741, 300 years after the original game, Ground Control 2 puts players in the role of Jacob Angelus, an officer in the NSA army, which is desperately fighting off an invasion from the Terrans on the planet Morningstar Prime. The game's official Web site hints at a third, unannounced faction with three areas set aside under the section describing the different sides in the conflict. Currently, the NSA is the only faction with a full description on the Web site.
Aside from offering tactical combat involving infantry, tanks, and heavy artillery, Ground Control 2 will feature a unique drop-in multiplayer feature that allows anyone to join an ongoing battle. The game is slated for release later this year, and we'll be keeping a close eye on its progress. In the meantime, enjoy the first screenshots of the game.
