GTA 5 Mod Brings Watch Dogs-Inspired Hacking to Los Santos

The Grand Theft Auto V community continues to surprise and impress.

A new Grand Theft Auto V mod brings elements of Watch Dogs to the world of Los Santos.

JulioNIB has created a script for the PC edition of GTA 5 that lets you perform Watch Dogs-inspired hacks--and it looks pretty cool. Take a look at the script in action through the video below (via Kotaku). As you'll see, you can detonate explosions at will--and to your benefit when evading police.

This sophistication of this script may grow in scope over time.

"Maybe later I release a update adding more features like the slow-motion (Focus) feature, profiler, crimes, etc.," JulioNIB said.

Note that the Watch Dogs-like clothes and models in the video come from different mods. You can learn more about this GTA V script, including how to download it, here at GTAXScripting.

A sequel to Watch Dogs is rumored to launch later this year. Unlike the Chicago-set 2014 original, the follow-up will supposedly be set in San Francisco.

Nifty, but I tend to fall into the camp of not finding much worthwhile to do in GTA after the story is over (I hate their multiplayer implementation) and I'm not sure how this really adds to any of it.

I don't care what people say. I liked Watchdogs and had a blast playing through it, which is more than I can say for any Ubi game I've played in like 5 years. I think the whole hissy fit over the bait-and-switch graphics really overshadowed the game and had a lot of people too angry to look at it objectively.

@esqueejy: Have to agree with pretty much all of that.

I think a high-up at Ubisoft recently compared Watch Dogs to the first Assassin's Creed, I think he's definitely right in terms of there not being enough mission variety. I really wanted more pay-off for following up on the whole underground slave trade thing but it was just more tailing missions identical to ones I'd done before. The graphical downgrade was a bit disappointing but I think it's main flaw was that it shied away from the darker gritty content that it teased when we first saw it. Still a great game though, I'm looking forward to a second one with a few lessons learned from the first.

That's a really well integrated mod, and it even has hacking mechanics that Watch Dogs didn't. Amazing.

@ps3gamer1234: The burnout & accelerate thing is pretty cool, I wonder if WD2 will have some self-driving cars to hack. Being able to hack every car is probably too much but if it's set in the near future then there should be at least a few driving around.

I mean no disrespect towards the work involved on that, but looks like a lame "press E to break havoc" especially when the guy hacks the traffic lights with the traffic blockers up and then there's a torrent of cars from each side just flooding the street. But people love so much to bash Ubi that they're gonna say it works better than the original anyway.

@Liliroots: I think you didn't get my point. I'm okay with the single button hack, my complain is about the outcome of the hacks. When the guy block the street and then hack the lights, the the traffic goes crazy, with cars flying all around, smashing on the street blockers, just like a torrent. This need to be better balance, but the haters will say it works better than WD, which is a delusional thing to state IMO. Yes it could be good after some patches and balancing, but at this state it's raw and not on par with the original.

@FBohler: In real world the end result would be also aim, choose an option and press a button to work your hacking magic. In reality like the script was made it took many hours of work to make it work seamlessly as it is now. Hacking itself is mind nummingly boring unless you're into numbers like the average guy is into porn.
And it works as good as the real watch dogs and has more options, why are you whining about it that people would prefer this over the original.

@maitkarro: I'm talking about outcome of the hacks, not about the process involved. And no, at this state it doesn't work quite like the original. I personally spotted ZERO flying cars on WD. I suggest you to get to play it first before you come here whine this kind of things.

@FBohler: So, your saying that actually hacking the traffic lights wouldn't great havoc in real life? Like turning all lights green on a busy crossing in let's say New YorK?

@kaealy: don't expect to see cars flying all around in real life if the lights turn to green in all directions. Especially if there's a traffic blocker on the street. You'll understand when you get minimum age to get your license ;D

@FBohler: You probably haven't watched the whole video. There's a part where he hacks a "camera" in a traffic light and at another he produces a blackout. Well yes, you "wreak havoc" just by pressing a button, but he definitely dedicated a lot of work into it. And I'm familiar with other mods from that same guy, JulioNIB. He did weapon and radio station wheels for GTA IV (yes, GTA FOUR!) If you remember correctly, there were no such thing in that game, you had to press left/right to switch weapons and radio stations one by one, with no slowdown. Same modder did the character switch (don't ask me how, it's probably not fully functional, but still...) similar to GTA V, in GTA IV (you switch between Niko, Johnny Klebitz and Luis Lopes with the D-pad), even the DLC episodes being different .exe files... Have absolutely no idea how. Google some of it, guy's a legend.

@rotchild: I'm really sorry if my english bothered you, but it isn't my native language, so you can expect plenty of rough edges on my comments. But that's no excuse, thanks for correct my mistake, I won't miss that word again. That said, if you want to know why I called you kid, look at your nick!

@FBohler: Your English doesn't bother me. What bothers me is your lack of education and common sense. English's not my native language either... Yet, it doesn't prevent me from spelling properly (I think a "kid" would care less about proper grammar/spelling, right?) . My nick is nothing but a pun. If you also don't know what that is, I again suggest wikipedia.

Your "bash" (sorry if the word sounds harsh) of the mod makes absolutely no sense. Arguing that in Watch Dogs the hacking was made in any other way is plain shallow (not to say stupid), to say the least. It's a total different game. It's a total different engine. Let's say it for example, if someone made a mod for Watch Dogs which would make the driving parts of the game a little bit better (and let's admit it, driving in Watch Dogs completely and utterly SUCKS!), making it slightly more like driving in GTA V, would you criticize it the same way? I guess not...

Again, you replied to the wrong comment.

@rotchild: it seems you've missed my first line. Let me copy paste it for your convenience: "I mean no disrespect towards the work involved on that". You're welcome! I'm not just trying to troll the guy, and I'm not trying to make all his work look rubbish, I'm only saying that with all his effort, he wasn't able to reproduce the real effects of WD. It lacks 'balancing' all around, and he can eventually get it spot on. Now about your trolling, keep trying harder! =)

@FBohler: And you seemed to have missed a lot more, including my point. I never said you disrespected the guy. I just said that it involves more than just pressing "E". Hence, given the author's modding history, it suggests that he will probably keep updating his mod, and making it even better! And about me trolling you?! LOL! Nope, I guess you just get irritated rather easily, mate! If I wanted to troll you, believe me, you'd know ;) Have a good one...

@rotchild: don't be so fallacious. You were saying how great the guy was to make a weapon/radio wheel on GTA IV, and now changed your tone as if I'm the troll. Back to topic: even though it might be hard to achieve this mod, the effects are a mess. They don't reflect the likely results of said hacks, the results are instant chaos and that's all.

@FBohler: That's exactly what the hacking does in WD's though. You hack a traffic light and suddenly everyone super accelerates into the middle of the intersection... it's completely ridiculous. This modder managed to make it work AS WELL as it did in Watchdog's, no worse, that's for sure, and he even added more options to a lot of objects.

You're making it sound as though the hacking in WD's was anything more than one dimensional. It wasn't. All hacked traffic lights had the exact same outcome, same with all hacked ATM's, all hacked road blocks... it played out just like the same kind of scripts used in this mod.

@nl_skipper: WD was a pretty enjoyable game by it's own right, but far from a paragon of gaming. I would like if you point where did I say that hacking was more than one dimensional on WD. And yet again, I've spotted ZERO flying cars on hacked intersections on WD. Yes, it is noticeable that traffic suddenly grows when you hack lights, but no flying cars at all.

@FBohler: And you don't be so short sighted. I'll say it again, as you don't seem to have gotten it the first time: If you check the guy's modding history, you'd easily see that he'll probably update the mod, as he had done with his other mods.

Oh! And you making a remark about another user's age a few posts above makes you a troll. Sorry...

@FBohler: LOL! Yeah, keep calling everyone a kid... it REALLY makes you look like a real grown-up!! It's not trying to mimic (and not "mimick", nice spelling for a grown-up!) anything, you freaking idiot. It's a MOD. If you don't know what that is, you can try wikipedia. Oh, and by the way, you replied to the wrong comment, A-hole. Goodbye! ;)

@rotchild: less fallacies please. I'm talking about the ACTUAL video, about the ACTUAL mod. You're talking about what it COULD be, but not precisely what it WILL be. Got it? And by this I don't mean it can't turn out to be great and even better than the original, but as today what I saw in that footage is a bit too raw. You disagree? I'm so sorry, I'm not willing to bow to you fallacies.

@FBohler: The "flying cars" has to do with the game engine itself (in this case, GTA V's). I doubt he could do something about that, he can probably only create scripts. But whatever, I won't feed a troll/hater like you no more dude...
