Rockstar Games has announced more details on Grand Theft Auto V's PS5 and Xbox Series X|S editions. Starting with the release date, Rockstar confirmed GTA V will debut on the new platforms on March 15. The game was originally expected to launch in November 2021 before being delayed to the new year.

This will be the third console generation the game is released on, following its launch platforms (PS3/Xbox 360) and then later PS4 and Xbox One. The game is also available on PC.

Upgrades

Getting into the technical specifics, GTA V for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S will have new graphics modes that support resolutions up to 4K and frame rates up to 60fps. Players can also expect improvements to texture quality and draw distances, as well as HDR options and ray-tracing.

Additionally, GTA V for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S will have faster loading times, 3D audio, and "advanced haptic feedback." No screenshots or video of GTA V on new platforms have been released yet.

Progress carries forward

PS4 and Xbox One users can transfer their GTA V story mode progress and their GTA Online characters and related progression to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S through a "one-time migration."

GTA Online

As announced previously, a standalone version of GTA Online is coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X on March 15. PS5 players can download it for free for the first three months.

Like GTA V, GTA Online is being upgraded on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. First off, players can skip the existing GTA V story mode prologue that was previously required before getting started. Instead, there will be a newly designed GTA Online tutorial. Additionally, newcomers will enter a Career Builder menu that lets them choose to be a Biker, Executive, Nightclub Owner, or Gunrunner from the start. Players will also get a "sizable" gift of GTA$ when they boot the game up. Returning players, meanwhile, will have the option to restart to make use of the new Career Builder option.

Additionally, GTA Online for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S include a new auto shop, Hao's Special Works, which is located within the LS Car Meet. From there, players can upgrade their vehicles (5 new ones and 5 existing ones) to help them become "elite" in terms of performance making use of the expanded power of the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. This follows news that "select vehicles" in GTA Online will be capable of reaching faster top speeds on the latest consoles thanks to their increased horsepower.

As for GTA 6, or whatever it's called, Rockstar has confirmed it is in development, but that's all we know.

Rockstar did to GTA what EA did to Sports game with Ultimate Team Modes.

Everyone wanted Story DLC & post story game modes. nope!

~I remember playing GTA online and 14 year old thug who played mumble rap

before i could mute him told his friend" I nev played no Dumb@$$ story mode"

To think alot of people skipped it & never got to experience Trevor etc was laughable...

Damn while those upgrades are expected for such an old game at this point, atleast they shouldn't botch it since it's their precious bread and butter... But the PC mods are leagues above what they can actually do with this game.. tho they should throw a few more resources on the next game rather then juice this one until that one is up and running and continue the process...which is what they will do

It would be amazing if no one bought this, but I know that won’t happen.

I am not going to buy an upgrade when the original works. The problem with some of these upgrades I would have to spend money that may be the same as the original other than some enhancements. They can do what they want with their product as I will do what I want with my money.

All joking aside, this is Rockstar proper that's putting out the upgrade, not a second party like Grove Street Games, so hopefully this ends up complete and working well.

The only way I’d play this is if the upgrade is free. I’ve had my fill of that game. Speaking of which, there are crickets from Rockstar about whether the upgrade is free of charge which indicates that they will charge for it. Which is their absolute right to do just like it’s my absolute right to choose not to pay it.

@GalvatronType_R: It definitely won't be free. If their #1 priority wasn't selling the game all over again, they might have given the last-gen version some Pro and One X enhancements. This is why they held off on that

Bought GTA5 on PS3/PS4 and Xbox One. Probably won't get it on Series S and just wait for GTA6.

Can't fault them tooooo much for trying to sell GTA V again, if there's still an audience that wants it.

What sucks is how they never gave the last gen versions any One X or PS4 Pro enhancements. When those consoles likely could have supported something comparable to this, 4k/60 or close to it. Since this is, at its core, a PS3/360 game. It's not super demanding.

It's as if they held off on those upgrades because they were already planning, years in advance, to ask people to buy it a third time -____-

I’m not getting it but feel like they really missed an opportunity not releasing this in January or early February. The later we get into Feb and then March the more major game releases there will be and this will just seem more and more irrelevant/unnecessary for most people.

So 3 months past the original date and just a month until the new one and no gameplay. Not a good sign.
