GTA 6 Does Not Scare Ubisoft, CEO Says
"Each time there is a big release like GTA, there are more and more people coming back to the industry."
Ubisoft is not afraid of the upcoming launch of GTA 6 in 2025. CEO Yves Guillemot said when a game on the size and scale of GTA releases, it can help bring people back to gaming. And more people in the market means more money spent across not just GTA 6 but other games, too.
"What we've seen in the past is each time there is a big release like GTA, there are more and more people coming back to the industry and that helps other games to sell as well," he said during Ubisoft's latest earnings briefing.
He said Ubisoft is unaware of when in 2025 GTA 6 will be release, but suggested it is likely to be closer to FY26 (April 1, 2025-March 31, 2026) than FY 2024 (April 1, 2024-March 31, 2025).
In general, Guillemot said a big game like GTA 6 coming out is "actually positive for the market," going on to note that Ubisoft posted strong earnings results when GTA 5 launched in 2013.
GTA 6 was officially announced in December 2023 with a first trailer that confirmed the series is headed back to Vice City for the newest installment. The game is coming in 2025, but a specific release date has not yet been announced.
As for Ubisoft, the company has a big release coming up this year with Star Wars Outlaws. It's an open-world game made by Massive, the team behind The Division series. Ubisoft will share more details on its future games in May.
