Guardians Of The Galaxy 2 Leads Top 10 Movies At US Box Office This Weekend
Marvel's newest superhero movie pushes Fate of the Furious down to No. 2.
After opening internationally to more than $100 million a week ago, Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 premiered in the US on Friday. The first-weekend US numbers are in, and the over-the-top superhero film made an estimated $145 million, according to EW. Internationally, the film has now made $282.6 million, pushing the worldwide haul above $400 million globally already.
It's pacing ahead of where the first Guardians of the Galaxy was by around $50 million, EW noted, though it's behind the sequels to other Marvel movies such as Avengers: Age of Ultron and Captain America: Civil War, which made $191 million and $179 million for their respective opening weekends in the US.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 pushes The Fate of the Furious to No. 2 in the US for the first time since release. It brought in $8.5 million, which pushes it past $200 million domestically. It's proving to be a much bigger hit internationally, and globally, it's now made more than $1.2 billion after just four weeks.
Rounding out the top five highest-grossing movies at the US box office this weekend were The Boss Baby ($6.2 million), How to Be a Latin Lover ($5.3 million), and Beauty and the Beast ($4.9 million).
