As explained previously, both games exist within the same H1Z1 universe, but are developed by two independent development teams inside of creator Daybreak Games.
Just Survive is positioned as H1Z1 as you already know it, offering the same open world gameplay that was in place when the zombie-themed game originally launched in 2015. It will remain in Early Access through the end of 2016.
King of the Kill, on the other hand, is described as a "high-intensity online multiplayer shooter" in which players can take part in a number of last-player-standing modes. One of these is "Battle Royale," which was created by community member PlayerUnknown. King of the Kill is scheduled to leave Early Access on PC this summer, at which point it will also debut digitally for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
If you purchased H1Z1 on or before February 16, King of the Kill and Just Survive should automatically show up in your Steam library.
Daybreak developers told GameSpot that splitting H1Z1 into two different games was one of the top community suggestions. For lots more on the split, check out GameSpot's interview with Daybreak.
