Half-Life 2, Portal, Left 4 Dead Writer Leaves Valve

Well what the hell has he been doing since 2011?

Well, they don't really make games anymore, so yeah, this guys needs to find work elsewhere.

Valve isn't just some soulless corporation though. They're still privately owned. It's entirely possible they give someone the blessing to make L4D3 or HL3 some day. They did for the Black Mesa people. And hey, FF7R happened, so HL3 sure as heck can.

I'm still not going to shit on the developer of Half-Life, Half-Life 2, TF2, Portal, Portal 2, Left 4 Dead, and Left 4 Dead 2.

You can hop on board the hate train, but they paid their fucking dues and certainly entertained a lot of us for years.

I might be more willing to tear them a new one if, let's say, the company had been utterly gutted and taken over by another corporation.

But fundamentally, Valve is still Valve in terms of culture, structure, and ownership.

Do people believe that Steam was an overnight success handed to Valve on a silver platter? It was a fragile disaster at the beginning. They had to work that sonofabitch into shape well before it became the juggernaut it is today.

And they changed the way a lot of people develop and propagate their games.

Certainly Steam and the strong VR focus has changed them, but it's still the secretive, innovative Valve behind the scenes cooking up stuff, and they've publicly spoken this year about having several full games in development.

I think it's too convenient to bandwagon against Valve today when they've done pretty well by gamers over the course of the years.

We used to praise Valve for making so many updates for TF2 and keeping it alive, but now updates are all they do. Sad. RIP Half-Life.

Well, they are developing three (3) "full" games for VR right now. So obviously Valve Software the game developer is still a thing.

I know it's easy to be pessimistic right now, but guys, Gabe Newell and other Valve employees have stated that they have full-fledged games in development, including single player (look it up if you don't believe me). No one knows what the hell happened to HL3, but if you pay attention to interviews, it's pretty obvious. Valve only wants to release if it can bring something new to the gaming landscape. I'm sure that's not going to be for a while, but it is coming. HL3 is not cancelled, it's just in limbo.

What would we do if Valve change their name to "Valv3"?

Valve could give to shits about Half-Life, it's all about Steam and Counter-Strike micro-transactions.

I was 15 when I beat Episode 2. I was so excited to see how the trilogy would end and how Gordon and Alyx would avenge the death of Eli and bring down the Combine once and for all. Now here we are ten years later, and all of half-life's writers are gone. This sucks...

Bruh we are about to get left 4 dead 3, half life 3 and portal 3. I bet valve gonna have their own event during e3 and will showcase all of it

Well if you want to make games that aren't CS:GO and DOTA then Valve probably isn't the company for you.
