Halo 3 PC Release Date Announced, And It's Very Soon

One of the best Halo games of all time is coming to PC through The Master Chief Collection later this month.

2007's Halo 3 is regarded by many Halo fans to be among the very best Halo games, but to date it's only ever been available on console. That's changing very soon. 343 Industries has announced that Halo 3 will release on PC through The Master Chief Collection on July 14. The game will go live at 10 AM PT that day.

The announcement of the release date comes after 343 wrapped up a closed beta test for Halo 3 on PC, which is in keeping with the schedule of beta-testing each entry in the MCC before releasing them. You can check out a trailer for Halo 3's PC release below.

Once released, Halo 3 will join Halo: Reach, Halo Combat Evolved, and Halo 2 in MCC on PC. Halo 3: ODST and Halo 4 will come later, completing the package. All of these games are already available on Xbox One through MCC.

The release of Halo 3 on PC on July 14 will also mark the start of MCC Season 2, which includes a series of updates to its battle pass-style progression system.

In other Halo news, 343 is finally going to reveal more of Halo Infinite during the Xbox 20/20 event on July 23. Fans have been waiting a long time, as Microsoft has so far only shown a teaser trailer--and no gameplay whatsoever--for the Xbox Series X launch title. The game will also be available on the regular Xbox One as well as PC.

I'm a PS4 guy, but I have been playing the MCC (mainly Reach) on PC the past few days after buying it when it went on the summer Steam sale. Pretty fun. I'm looking forward to this one.

Halo 2 and Halo 3 were the only games I stood in line for on release day at midnight. Then played them all night. Good to see it finally being ported to PC but nothing beats playing these games in co-op on the big screen with the xbox controller.

While I am glad that its on PC... I barely remember what the hell went on on from Halo 2 - frankly I moved on a long time ago.

I would say taking this long to port it has decreased its chances of really making much of a return.

@Bungmeister: Halo 2 remastered looks and feels awesome and is absolutely worth the play. I loved Halo 3 but it's really about the gameplay. I might like the story more if it got the Blur makeover, but then they would have to remake the campaign in an attempt to be half as awesome as the cutscenes soooooo . . . yah I'm all for a full remaster in the styling of the 2 previous remasters.

I'm sure Microsoft is more than happy with PC sales numbers as they're likely creeping around 4 mil by now. Steam estimates between 2-5 million copies and that doesn't include all sources. That's a solid amount for such an old pack of games. The real goal behind it has been to build a larger and more current PC community, and ready them for future Halo titles.

i would think they'll use release all the halo and collection from xbox one to windows 10, since xbox one does have a part of windows 10 os in it.

now bring halo 5 and later halo: infinite on pc.

why this game take so long to get ported? Feels odd especially with how supportive MS has been of PC for so long. Even Halo 2 came out closer to its release on Xbox

@Havok83: I think it had something to do with them wanting to keep Halo 3 exclusive to Xbox 360 because it was such a killer app at launch, and they were selling enough Xbox 360 consoles they didn't need to pour the resources into porting it to PC back then. Bringing Halo 1&2 to PC back in the day was motivated more by the fact that even though Halo broke sales records for the FPS game, Xbox did not sell well as a console in comparison to its main competition.

Campaign of Halo 3 was fair at best, and I'm forgiving to shooters. Maybe a better control could help.

@santinegrete: I gather it's not a simple process getting these games to work on new hardware with new controls. Remember how much trouble 343 had with The Master Chief Collection when it launched on Xbox One? Plus, it's probably not a massive priority for them, since these games are so old and they've got Infinite to finish.

I'm excited to have all the Halo games making their way to PC after such a long time of some being exclusives to Xbox. I have played Halo, Halo 2 & Halo 3 - That's it, I have not played any of the series after that sadly.

I switched to a PS4 after many Xbox 360 failures. I did have an Xbox One X for a short time, but after using mainly as an UHD player I eventually sold it as well and moved to being a dedicated PC gamer. I honestly have felt like I have been missing out, but not enough to purchase a console. I just love playing games on my PC. We all have a favourite platform and I fully understand this and change is not easy. To be fair, I am interested enough in the PS5, that I may buy one for the fact it has so many very interesting exclusives to let go by and to also warrant the cost.

I have been very excited to hear of all the console exclusives making their way to PC though. Many of which I have pre-ordered or bought. My back-log is so massive now, it is going to take me until I look in the mirror and my hair is grey, to fully catch up. Maybe not even then. Maybe I will still be completing it in the afterlife lol 😁

Back to topic though, I am really excited for all these halo games to make it to PC. I am looking forward to going through the whole franchise from beginning to end once all of them are fully released on PC in their franchise entirety 😊

@openmind23: personally speaking I'd say you've experienced the best of the series. The 4th game was fine but I forgot it minutes after finishing. ODST, again was ok but nothing major as for the 5th game, I wasn't fussed what so ever.

I honestly have not played them on PC, but to be even more honest, I would only play the Halo games for their Single Player story-line and campaign and not the multiplayer side of them.

I tend to do that for most games because I prefer Single Player (especially the Open-World genre) and I also have an anger problem (amongst many other issues) and MP tends to exacerbate that and tend to avoid anything that does. Some multiplayer games don't seem to trigger it oddly, so I don't mind playing those. BTW don't worry about me mentioning my problems, I don't mind talking about it.

I love strong storytelling and love games because they put you right in the center of everything being told and also the interaction of being a character within it. I find it great to be apart of such incredible art and someone else's stories and vision. It takes my mind off my problems and puts me in an awesome fantasy world where I concern myself & mind with that. It works for me which is great and finding this out was awesome. Movies and TV shows have the same effect for me too, so I watch many of those. Maybe too many lol.

Ok, this explanation went on for much too long lol. Have fun playing the Halo games 😁

@PrpleTrtleBuBum: I remember watching the Brute Vidoc and thinking they would be a force to be reckoned with like mini-bosses, like Tartarus. I was so wrong. lol

@Blade_Runner_07: i mean just take the battle with 2 scarabs. add the enemy side 4 wraiths, 4 prowlers, 8 ghosts, 8 banshees and about 6 groups of on foot troopers. add our side 1 more scorpion, 3 warthogs, 4 mongooses and no more hornets with a couple of marine squads wielding snipers and other rifles. but also have elites come in with 1 or 2 wraiths and spectres plus about 4 ghosts piloted by good grunts chanting like trombones as they head into the fight alingside marines, elites and a couple of hunters

even better if the covenant had another tartarus or other leader leading their defence. so seeing and hunting him down on the battlefield becomes an event in itself

it doesnt matter if the fps drops to single digits or if my xbox catches fire but have a climatic fight that really shows this is prophets and covenants last stand. then i can take the whimpering cortana and halo levels that only serve to be a quiet closure

@Blade_Runner_07: i kinda wish h3 on pc allowed campaign mods. id make maybe 10 changes and then it would be the most epic 10+/10 game ever. just i didnt like their decision to make all grunts and hunters as enemies and also elites had too little role. sentinels not gaining amything and even losing the giant enforcer support was a bummer. and also the game lacked a truly epic final battle. the scarab battle on earth was a bit campy and the ark and covenant battles require extreme luck so that the ai doesnt do anyhing stupid and remains numerous enough.

every time during the covenant when we approach the tank, warthog and mongoose i sigh in my mind worrying what goes wrong. the mongoose usually dies during thr first battle if nothing else then shot by our tank

Halo 3 was the grand prize I was waiting for during 360 era, Halo 3 still has a special place in my heart and I put more hours into it then Halo 2 but still, Halo CE is still the treasure among Halo game series.

I'm ready to play Halo 3 on PC.
