With the release of Halo 5: Guardians closing in, Microsoft has kicked off the second season of "Hunt the Truth," a fictional Serial-style podcast series that dives into the mysteries of the Halo universe.

The first season tallied 6.7 million listens and reached as high as no. 1 in the Video Games and Games & Hobbies iTunes podcast charts. The first episode of the second season will be available right here on Soundcloud or through iTunes Podcasts beginning at 11 AM PDT / 2 PM EDT today.

Season 2 picks up "shortly" after the events of Season 1, again following war journalist Benjamin Giraud's attempts to expose a military cover up about Master Chief. Giraud is voiced by comedian Keegan Michael Key, who delivers a compelling performance for the character. Season 2 keys on the character FERO, a rebel leader who is voiced by Janina Gavankar (The Mysteries of Laura, True Blood).

Other talent featured in Hunt the Truth includes Mark Hamill of Star Wars fame, as well as Tamara Taylor (Bones, Justice League), Alan Tudyk (Firefly, Serenity), and Peter Serafinowicz (Guardians of the Galaxy, Spy), among others.

"While the first season dealt with subterfuge and espionage at the fringes of the game events, Season 2 will lead directly into the galaxy-shaking mysteries of Halo 5: Guardians," Halo franchise development director Frank O'Connor said in a statement.

The Halo 5 release date is set for October 27 exclusively on Xbox One. For more, check out some recent stories below.

After the last ~15 non-stop months of daily Halo5 vomit, I'm actually completely deadened to its upcoming release. It's like it's already been around forever, and there's nothing new/fresh/exciting about it at this point.

Yeah, yeah; it's still preordered.

I'm excited for this. Season 1 was really good.

Now if we can only get a season 2 of Spartan Ops.

@jacknasty: Surprisingly, I'd have to agree. It was one of the best non-game Halo projects 343i put out.

@unreal849: I absolutely loved Hunt The Truth. I wouldn't say its better than the novels though.
