Halo Coming To Switch 2 And PS5 In 2025 Alongside Gears, Flight Sim, And More - Report

It's also been reported that Final Fantasy 7 Remake, MS Flight Simulator 2024, Hellblade 2, and Gears of War could show up on rival consoles.

Microsoft will launch Halo: The Master Chief Collection and Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 on PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2 in 2025, according to a recent report, and that might not be all.

NateTheHate revealed this on his podcast recently, adding that Final Fantasy VII Remake is coming to Xbox as well in 2025. Windows Central reporter Jez Corden corroborated this and said, "Microsoft isn't stopping there." Corden reported that Senua's Saga: Hellblade II, Age of Mythology, and Gears of War Ultimate Edition are scheduled to come to PS5 this year. Whether or not they show up on Nintendo Switch 2, however, wasn't mentioned in the report.

Tom Warren of The Verge recently said that he was "willing to bet" that Microsoft would have some Xbox games "ready for the Switch 2."

Of course, plans can change at any moment, for any number of reasons, so while these reports claim to have accurate information, nothing is locked down for sure. GameSpot has contacted Microsoft in an attempt to get more information.

This report comes not long after an analyst said they expect 2025 to be the year that Microsoft begins to bring "all their big games" to PS5. None of this should be terribly surprising, though, as Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer himself has said any Xbox game could come to PS5.

One of the next big Xbox games to come to PlayStation is Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, which launches for PS5 in Spring 2025. Beyond this, there are ongoing rumors of a Halo: Combat Evolved remaster project that could launch on PS5. Looking further out, experts have said that the Halo franchise changing engines to Unreal would make it theoretically easier to bring the series to PlayStation.

In May, it was reported that Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella and CFO Amy Hood are mandating increasing margins at all divisions, including Xbox. At the time, it was reported that Microsoft might look to release even more of its first-party games on PlayStation to help increase revenue. There is said to be an internal plan within Microsoft called "Latitude" that is focused on formulating plans to bring more first-party Xbox games to rival systems.

In other Xbox news, Microsoft is holding the next Xbox Developer Direct event on January 23, and the broadcast will feature a "brand-new" game.

I honestly don't understand this desire for people to replay really old games, that you've probably already played 2-3 times already from 10 years ago? Who does that?

I don't think I've ever replayed the same game twice, except for taking a look at Quake Dark Places mod, like 6 years ago probably because I'm a single player, one hit slot sort of gamer. I have no desire to replay old games overall. When I've experienced them, that's pretty much it. Most games I never actually finish, so there's no chance they will ever get replayed, or revisited. I don't know if anyone else is like this but generally I think there are just too many other newer games waiting for my attention.

So, what the Switch 2 really needs, is a really great lineup of new titles & access to a mother load of software from day 1. That doesn't mean all those backward compatible games, you've already played on your Switch. I mean, what's the point in that exactly?

And with that, the console war had officially been lost for Xbox.

Do you think they will just launch older games of their first party franchises and not the newest? To sell more copies of old games like master chief collection and then also possibly get peopled hooked on your franchise for when the newest game comes out?

MS should stop faking it at this point... Just release all your franchises on other consoles and don't even launch another Xbox. I feel extremely ripped off, having a Series X. They should have told customers about parity with the S before selling it. Scumbags...

Gamespot, here's some more content for your writers - the Switch 2 will actually have 8k resolution. Bloodborne 2 will be a launch exclusive, Cyberpunk 2079 is coming day 2. There is a Mario multiverse MMO coming out, and it has VR capabilities.

I sort of wish Infinite would come to PS5. That game is fantastic, super underrated/overhated, and could use a bigger audience. :/

@cugabuh: Haha literally Infinite and Halo 5 are the two games nobody wants. If it was a game of the decade, thousands would be playing it daily and it would at least ONE sort of mention for a "best supported game" award.

But.......... it.......... didn't. Since the day Halo Infinite was revealed to the world in July 2020....... the franchise has NEVER recovered.

@ceelogreen94: You just whined and cried about how everyone here hates Xbox but now I want failure Infinite lol? Agsin, dead franchise today caused by Infinite, try to keep up.

And I don't even want the cartoony "good" Halo games from the "good old Xbox days" when you were paying 60 quid a year for a sub and getting NOTHING for it.

@cugabuh: I actually agree with that. It’s fun. The campaign was really fun, though the mission structure was underwhelming and the story itself seemed pretty insignificant and small.

Gears of War: Ultimate Edition coming to PS5 sounds a bit odd when the Xbox version was kind of abandoned a long time ago, never got any 4k updates, and it's almost 10 years old and its own graphics are arguably in need of another remaster

@Spartan_418: Play it again on the Series X with Auto HDR and FPS Boost on, it looks a lot better than it initially did.

@restatbonfire: And rereleasing it on other platforms will revive the game and bring in a new community and the old players back.

Kind of sad to see xbox going out like this if it's true but at least some games will be temporarily revived.

Gears on PS5 has been a longstanding rumor. I hope it’s true and that they bring 1-3 over in 4k60fps along with the multiplayer. I could use a good Gears 1 nostalgia trip.

@joecollin: Then buy a PC or XBOX because that is only way anyone is going to play that/those games. I know Microsoft will bring some games over, but it will never bring XBOX legacy Games over the any other system. This is what Phil meant when he said the XBOX will continue to have Exclusives.

@ceelogreen94: I have a PC. We still don’t have Gears 2 or 3. I won’t buy an Xbox just for a few old exclusives. You seem pretty defensive about the idea.

Bringing classics back to life and getting the multiplayer going again would be great, even if the MP only lives for a year. It’s an intriguing idea. I certainly wouldn’t mind any classics from any platform going to other platforms.

@psych32: True but sometimes these things are very obvious, like the 4 games last year that people were still in denial of AFTER the Xbox "business update" lol.

It didn't sink in until 6 days later when Xbox announced what the 4 games were on their own Xbox Wire blog (slimy Phil said that he was going to leave it to the other platforms to announce the games, he lied, shocker).

These same people assumed that the games were only starting development and weren't being worked on as early as March 2023. They thought they were going to be out at the end of the year at the earliest...... not all within the next 60 days lol. And they still had meltdowns even though they were told to get ready for it. The same is going to happen here.
