GameSpot News has confirmed that the futuristic combat game Halo is headed for the PlayStation2 platform. In development at Bungie Software, Halo has often been rumored as a possibility for the next-generation PlayStation console due to its superior visual capabilities. Now, a source close to the project has gone on record and informed us that PlayStation2 Halo "is definitely happening." Take-Two's Rockstar Games will be publishing the port.

While our sources have confirmed the PlayStation2 version of Halo, an official statement from Bungie denies that Sony has approved the game for the Playstation2.

This should come as great news for gamers looking forward to purchasing the PlayStation2 later this year, as Halo could very well become a showcase title for the console. What has been shown so far of the PC version has floored many of the GameSpot crew. To give you an idea of what to expect from Halo, we've included a few in-game shots from the PC version of the title. Now just imagine seeing these in motion on your living-room TV.

We'll deliver more details on the PlayStation2 version of Halo as soon Rockstar makes such news official.
