Halo Infinite Delayed -- How The Internet Reacted To The Big Xbox Series X News

Halo Infinite has been delayed to 2021--here's what people had to say about it.

Microsoft's marquee Xbox Series X launch title, Halo Infinite, has been delayed to 2021. Developer 343 Industries said the shift to a work-from-home environment was one part of the reason behind the delay, and that it will give the team the time to "deliver a Halo game experience that meets our vision."

Needless to say, the internet had a lot to say about the delay, and we're rounding up some of the hot takes people have put out on social media.

Now Playing: Halo Infinite - Everything You Need To Know

Halo Infinite is now scheduled for release in 2021, but a more specific date has not been announced yet. The delay is big news because Halo Infinite would have been the first Halo game to release as a launch title for new Xbox hardware since the original Halo: Combat Evolved in 2001.

While Halo Infinite is now coming in 2021, Microsoft still plans to release the Xbox Series X this year--a November release date has now been confirmed. The platform will have "thousands" of titles available at launch thanks to its backwards compatibility support for Xbox One, Xbox 360, and the original Xbox.

Halo's community director, Brian Jarrard, reflected that he understands the delay news is "disappointing." However, he also mentioned he's been overwhelmed to see the Halo community's response to the news and their support of 343 doing what it needs to do to get the game finished.

Halo's community manager, John Junyszek, shared a similar sentiment. "The Halo community is the best community," he said, adding the fist-bump emoji to his tweet.

Mat Piscatella, who is an analyst at the research firm NPD, said in his own tweet that people should remember and respect the fact that we are in the midst of a pandemic and have patience and understanding regarding Halo Infinite's delay.

Waypoint reporter Patrick Klepek added that he heard that 343's shift to a work-from-home environment had an "especially big impact" on the final stages of Halo Infinite's development.

Ace Watkins, the fake gamer president, sounded off on the delay as well with a joke about Joe Biden announcing Kamala Harris as his running mate on the same day as this news about Halo.

Windows Central reporter Jez Corden joked that 343 delayed Halo Infinite to further incorporate Craig the Brute into the game. It's a joke, but we hope 343 does actually include an Easter Egg or some other nod to the popular meme.

Wushu Studios communications manager Shinobi602 said it was commendable for 343 to delay Halo Infinite, given it was the flagship launch title for Series X.

Gears of War designer Cliff Bleszinski said he welcomes the news about Halo Infinite's delay if it means the end product will be better. "Take your time, team, and eventually, shut up and take my money," he said.

Twitter user 9 V O L T brought up the memorable Shigeru Miyamoto quote to reference Halo Infinite's delay, but with a more humorous spin.

People are so bizarre in their reactions, it's just mind-boggling.

"No point in buying a Series X then."

Halo was NEVER a reason to buy a Series X lol it's coming out on Xbox One as well, so if your MAIN concern is playing Halo... well the XSX is irrelevant.

You're all about that next-gen upgrade? If that was the case, you'd just buy the XSX anyway to play next-gen games. OR, wild idea, just wait a couple months and buy one when the game comes out?

My favorite is the "I'll just buy a PS5 instead then"... so... you want Halo and/or you want next-gen power... so your solution is to buy the platform that will NEVER have Halo and will probably run 3rd party games at relatively lower quality.

I mean... it's pure insanity. There's no sense in it what-so-ever.

Don't get me wrong, buy whatever platform you want, but the logic on display is pure insanity.

@skyhighgam3r: "I'll just buy a PS5 instead then"

Anyone who said this was unlikely to be buying an Xbox in the first place. Sometimes I think with how hard they troll these threads, some of them must be paid.

@lina_baby_doll: That would be funny if it didn't hurt so much. Still, I did have some fun in that game even if it wasn't my bag. Glad it was included in Gamepass, I would have been pissed if I paid top dollar for it.

Kudos to Phil Spencer for doing the right thing!

We want a fully featured and fully functional Halo Infinite and only additional time can give us that!

that Shigeru Miyamoto quote about a delayed game is eventually good a rushed game is forever bad is complete bollocks. Anthem proofs this, anthem was delayed numerous times from its initial release window and still it released in a complete mess and is still a mess even to this day. so that quote really doesn't mean anything and is thrown around to try and defend a team delaying a game when really its just sheer incompetence.

@xnshd: You're not taking into account that EA really wanted to get Anthem out the door. Just because a game is delayed does not mean that it still wasn't rushed. There's no doubt it should have been delayed longer.

Not sure that means the game would have actually been any better if they had hammered on it more, (at some point you have to get the game into consumers' hands), but it was definitely released in a pretty unfinished state.

@thecupidstunts: anthem was not rushed. they gave bioware 7 YEARS!! to make that game and for over 5 of those years they pissed around in pre production not knowing what the hell they were doing or even what type of game they were making.

i know its cool to always hate on EA and think that everything that goes wrong with a game they publish is somehow their fault, which sometimes it is, but in this instance the blame for anthems failure falls on bioware.

@wahsobe: could use that excuse for any game that has problems. oh it hasnt been fixed yet. the quote is about a delayed game is eventually good, meaning that you delay a game so that when you eventually RELEASE that game its then good on RELEASE and not over 1 year later.

@xnshd: My point s that you say that it's still a mess, but they announced that there was a complete overhaul in the works so there is not much point in getting overly invested in what is wrong with it today. Other titles often boast about subtle changes they make as they go along, this is not the case here.

I'm not arguing that a game doesn't have to be good on release nor do I think it's a positive thing that we have to wait a year for the game to be good. That being said I would still prefer to eventually love a game over never never enjoying it at all. Especially if I've already paid for it.

In Anthems case specifically. there is a lot of potential in this game. The building blocks are there, they just need to make everything more interesting.

@wahsobe: this "mega" patch culture we are in right now where a game releases and its complete trash then in a year they release a mega patch and it makes the game "good" isnt a defence. also its been almost a year and a half with anthem and it seems like we are still a long way away with this overhaul you talk about. when do you start seeing a game for what it is and thats a complete failure and just move on. i mean fine a game being a bit broken and fixed a few months after launch is one thing but its something completely different releasing a game with literally nothing to do, bugs and issues absolutely everywhere including poor frame rate, crashes, visual issues, uninteresting loot, non existent end game to just name a few and still be waiting almost a year and a half later and it still being a very long way off being what would be considered an acceptable product let alone a "good" game.

@xnshd: I never experienced the issues you're talking about with Anthem. I did have the server drop about half a dozen times in the 30+ hours I put in.

As for the the rest you still tend to get the standard 10 hrs in before everything starts to become mundane, which is not good but it is about the same amount of time as your typical game length. The problem is with an MMORPG it is expected, as a bare minimum, to get you over the 50 hour mark before you must decide if you're a die hard or done. In this regards it fails terribly.

Anthem still manages to earn a 6 for what it does, with the bulk of that deduction earned not living up to MMORPG standards. It may not be good but it is hardly what I would call complete trash.

I can't help but feel we're saying the similar things I'm just not as critical.

A very hard, but good move from 343. Rarely are studios as professional and mature to put the business part behind and make such difficult choices. Wonder how that will affect the XSX launch and Microsoft plans regarding it. Will they re-position another title to be the flagship for launch?

@Mkherkzen: considering both forza and fable are years away, I think they’ll buckle up and go with a roster of smaller hits instead of having a system seller from the go

@MigGui: Lack of such a title hurts. While they can play their "plays best on Xbox", "three generations of backwards compatibility", "we still have Scorn, Medium and other exclusives at launch", and "free Game Pass with 100s of games" cards, most people are used to seeing a "mascot" of sorts pulling the platforms during the first months.

That said, if I buy the new Xbox, I'll probably still be playing current games I play, like The Division 2, Minecraft and Grounded :D There's genuinely nothing on the horizon that I would be dying to play right now :/

I have seen mostly positive from the game being delayed.

I thought the game should delayed from the demo and breakdowns YTers have done.

My biggest problem was with the devs and media who act nothing was wrong with the game and felt attack most of the time . "Not saying they weren't attack"

So I am glad MS and 343 have taken feedback and not rushing the game out
