Halo Infinite Dev Responds To Xbox One Version Cancellation Rumors

No, Halo Infinite is not abandoning Xbox One and it has not been delayed again to 2022.

Halo Infinite developer 343 Industries has responded to recent rumors that claimed the studio was abandoning the Xbox One version of the sci-fi shooter and delaying the game to 2022. That's a bunch of baloney, community manager John Junyszek said on social media--you can still expect Halo Infinite to release in 2021 for all previously announced platforms, including Xbox One.

"We're seeing lots of fake 'leaks' out there, so please don't believe everything you read," he said on Twitter. "There are no plans to change our 2021 release or the devices and platforms we'll be supporting. We're building Halo Infinite to be the best it can be on each device/platform."

Now Playing: Halo Infinite - Everything You Need To Know

Halo Infinite is in development for Xbox Series X, the standard Xbox One, and PC. Citing no evidence, people online have claimed that Halo Infinite's Xbox One edition would be "held back" due to the power of the Xbox One being less than the Series X.

Xbox boss Phil Spencer believes "held back" is a term used by people who have too much time on their hands.

"Frankly, held back is a meme that gets created by people who are too caught up in device competition," Spencer said in an interview. "I just look at Windows. It's almost certain if the developer is building a Windows version of their game, then the most powerful and highest fidelity version is the PC version. You can even see that with some of our first-party console games going to PC, even from our competitors, that the richest version is the PC version. Yet the PC ecosystem is the most diverse when it comes to hardware, when you think about the CPUs and GPUs from years ago that are there."

343 recently delayed Halo Infinite from holiday 2020 to an unspecified date in 2021. The company pushed the game to next year due in part to development complications related to COVID-19 and the impact of working from home.

This is not the first rumor that 343 has responded to in recent weeks. The company also shot down speculation that Microsoft was planning to launch Halo Infinite's multiplayer and campaign modes separately.

The multiplayer portion of the game will be free-to-play, and that could be a very big deal for the future of Halo.

In my opinion it is nice to keep the older systems in the loop as not many cannot probably afford the new system but at the same time the newer version to me is being hamstringed by the older versions. I like MS but they are creating chaos and hope they make it clear what they are truly emphasizing.

So many false and stupid rumors about this lately lol. I swear the backlash this game is getting seems massively overblown.

@2_Quiet_2_Riot: Sort of agree, since I'm not going to play it on the old Xbone and want it to be the best it can be

At the same time, there are millions of Xbox Ones out there likely bought with Halo in mind, and the current gen has only gotten one Halo fps of its own so far, which is unusual, so I wouldn't blame those people for feeling abandoned if this happened

I've been trying to explain this to people for the last 6 months but they kept insisting that Xbox games were going to be held back and that the Xbox Series X games were going to look like ass because they have to make the game for the worst spec'd system and then port it to the better spec'd system without any improvements. Its like they don't realize PC games are a real thing. Some were saying games will be a pixilated mess because they have to develop the game for cell phones and tablets first. Doh! They don't have to develop the game for phones or tablets at all. The games will be running on Xbox One's at first and then later on servers. The games will be streamed to phones and tablets, they won't be installed like a program on these devices so no, they won't be developing a phone version of the game then a tablet version of the game and porting them to console and PC. People need to understand how streaming works. Your device is basically a dumb terminal. It simply accepts the video stream and displays it and sends controller input data back to the streaming device. It doesn't run the freaking game like a program or app. Its a bit more complicated than that but that's the quick and dirty version. I was wondering how long it would take for Spencer to finally put this BS to rest.

As far as rumors go, if its something that sounds like a really stupid move or too good to be true, its likely been started by people who hate Microsoft or people doing some wishful thinking. Like Microsoft was ever going to make Xbox Live Gold free.

@bdrtfm: the only way they will be held back is from a design standpoint. This generation, a LOT of effort has gone into working around the atrocious read speeds of HDDs and making load times seem better or invisible altogether. Naughty Dog and Sony Santa Monica has become great at this during this generation. With SSDs, that bottleneck is all but removed entirely, with read speeds increasing by 20x or more, eliminating the need for file redundancy and uncompressed assets which also reduces the size of games. We will see the fruits of this hardware change in first party Sony games and 3rd party next gen exclusives, but cross gen games will still need to be developed with HDD capabilities in mind which in a sense is holding back game design, but once MS and the rest of the 3rd party devs go full next gen, we will truly see some interesting paradigm shifts.

As we suspected it was all made up rumors by possible Sony Fanboys on the internet.

This is turning out to be just like the US presidential election with their fake news and rumors.

Well what they don't realize is that even with fake news, they are helping Xbox to keep trending on the internet ....lol

@johnny0779: yep. Just like all the Xbots spreading rumors that the PS5 is struggling to output in full 4K. The levels of “fake news” going around about these next gen consoles is so stupid.

@KahnArtizt: FACT is PS5 already struggles with 4k@60fps with some of its launch window games.

@Lach0121: Quantum Error is running 4K/70fps before optimization and COD is going to run at 4K/120fps. Granted, the overall graphics will likely take a hit, but that’s normal for every COD game’s MP.

@KahnArtizt: Yes, but that doesn't change the fact that some of their launch window cannot do 4k@60FPS. Look at Ratchet & Clank, and the new Avengers game. But let me guess, that is just "fake news" huh?

@Lach0121: The specific "fake news" was a person claiming to be from the Quantum Error studio saying that they were struggling to do 4K/60fps, but within hours, an ACTUAL dev from that studio tweeted that their game was running at 4K/70fps without optimization and whoever said that was a liar.

@KahnArtizt: Ahh I see, I thought you were saying that people claiming that the ps5 had trouble doing 4k@60fps were "fake news."

As they are clearly right on some games.

I was unaware of the Quantum Error tweet stuff.

@Lach0121: That's mainly what I was referring to. I realize that hitting 4K/60fps while maintaining graphical quality (lighting, large environments, draw distance, ray tracing, etc) is a balancing act and not all games are gonna hit the 60+ fps mark, but for some games, that's not the worst thing ever. Ratchet and Clank? Fine. The last one was 30 fps and I didn't have an issue with it. Shooters and racing games? That's another story. I'm glad Ratchet lets you opt to do 60fps at a reduced resolution tho (most likely 1800p or something). PS4 games had this same performance issue at launch with games like Battlefield 4 playing at 900p/30fps while the newer ones are 1080p/60 fps. Infamous SS came out like 6 months after the PS4 launched and was able to hit 1080p/60fps (though with some drops during hectic battles). I'm sure it will all get ironed out pretty quickly.

I don't think PS5 will struggle with 4K, but it will struggle with 4K/60fps. We are seeing it with Ratchet and Clank. There will be two modes 4K/30fps or lower resolution for 60fps. This is why I am more confident in Xbox Series X's hardware.

@Shantmaster_K: Totally agree, games on PS5 will run fine...but NOT at the level of the Series X if developers choose to seriously take advantage of it.

@KahnArtizt: I think what most people refer as the PS5 not being able to handle NATIVE 4K at 60fps.

One example is the new Avengers game which has the PS5 specs of "Dynamic 4K" instead of Native.

I am just curious about the fact if developers want to support xbox one x and ps4 pro and above if they can ? if they are allowed by the company ? Because its a shame having more gpu power and a bit more cpu power than the base consoles and not being supported, that being 1080p resolution or lower settings with that . The fact that those consoles came out only a few years ago at extra cost and not being supported more is confusing . I am not sure if they have the adoption that developers need but about power we have seen this generation games being ported to the switch .

@john_price_1: cross gen PS3/PS4 games were still coming out pretty regularly until like 2016. I can’t imagine this gen will be much different in that regard. 4K/120fps is not real necessary for most indie games.

@john_price_1: That's a big question I was asking myself too. Will the highest tier version of each current console lose support exactly like the base models even if they are capable of more? I bet some people are interested in making the investement of getting a pro/X worth more time.

I already asked this in the site and other user came out with a douchy "you wan't they to support more time a console with that limited proccessing power?". I hope the poor sap was an enthusiast PC user, because if you want the highest power, you go there with water cooling, not ask for a new console to meet it's full potential day one and killing all prev gen support immediately.

Who in their right mind would believe anything that comes from MS/343i at this point? They flip flop on a weekly basis. They're saying this now, but give it a month and we'll be seeing articles that begin with "We have made the difficult decision to shift our focus of Halo Infinite to the next generation Xbox Series X to ensure and deliver a Halo game experience that meets our vision. We thank our fans for understanding".

F*ck off, 343i. Incompetent af dev.

@hardwenzen: Yea, trying to figure out what 343 had said besides delaying the game until next year....everything else has been rumors probably crap made up and hyped on by people like you lol. Also, same goes for MS, they never said anything about Xbox Live Gold being free, rumor started by some idiot...so your statement holds no merit.

A PC with graphics power roughly equal to the 2013 Xbox One would fall waaaaaay below the minimum specs for a lot of new games today

I feel Phil is half only half right on his "held back" speech. While it's true that usually PC versions of things look the best, usually consoles will have something unique about them that separates them from what a PC is capable of. I would say the PS4/Xbox One were the first consoles that maybe were different and offered nothing new.

But when I see the way the SSD is implemented in the PS5 for example, and the ratchet and clank demo, it makes it seem like if they co-developed that for the PS4, it would have definitely been "held back". Mark Cerny mentioned specifically having to develop worlds and maps in the past based on caching data and making certain concessions that they don't necessarily have to consider going forward. If you were developing that for PC, you would have to consider those still or make the required specs stupidly high.

@XT14: You are right and it depends on how you look at it. Some prefer console as the next console will play the same versus PC in which you have many configurations and they are upgradable whereas the console is not so console users does not have to pay for upgrades. It is sad to see graphics become the main reason to buy an game these days and not all areas of game development. Gameplay is essential to me for an game can have the best looking graphics but not enough emphasis on game play or content.

@lonewolf1044: agreed, but that's what the exciting potential is for the next generation, to have gameplay experiences that aren't possible because of the limitations of the previous generation.

I'm also not that interested in new graphics techniques, but I would be interested in minimal loading times for new areas or advanced scopes that couldn't have been imagined because of bandwidth/caching restrictions. I mean, I'm not saying this can or will be the generational leap that they PS4/Xbox One definitely wasn't, however, I am hopeful.

That's why Phil Spencer's messaging is at odds with Mark Cerny's. One says that we are facing diminishing returns, so everything will work across both generations, one will just be better. The other is saying we can now do things we couldn't do; a bigger leap. I'm fortunate enough to be able to afford both consoles and will buy them Day 1 if possible, but if I wasn't, I would be hard pressed to choose this gen.

@XT14: That Ratchet demonstration always made me curious - is that really only achievable on an SSD, or the PS5 SSD for that matter? The non-controlled segment was indeed impressive, though I had a hard time telling whether that's pre-baked or live-rendered. I wouldn't mind at all, if in the actual gameplay part, where you could see UI and someone controlling Ratchet, he wouldn't portal-jump between places in one and the same level. And that's something we've already seen happening in games. I'd want to see more, to understand that better. Even The Cherno wasn't that sure, whether it's thanks to the SSD or simply more raw horsepower.

@Mkherkzen: Yah, they definitely could have achieved that affect if they pre-rendered it. It will be interesting to see if you could jump between a world more at will and just have it be there.

I think the inclusion of a hard drive on the original Xbox definitely helped to show off what that machine could do that the PS2/GCN couldn't. Hopefully the superfast SSDs help us have new experiences this gen too. Guess we'll see soon enough.

@Crazy_sahara: I agree with you on Flight Simulator as there is an lot going on underneath and it is all good and one can thank the evolution of technology even though it may be an curse for some as you have to spend money to get it. I was planning on getting it for PC anyway as I am not rushing to get the Xbox anyway or the New PS 5. Halo looks good to me as well as I do like good graphics I am more into gameplay.

@lonewolf1044: Crytek want their title back, so far red dead redemption 2 stole it, but ms fs has wrecked every game ever made, and raytracing will decimate the Nvidia 3090 on Ms FS (hell the 2080ti struggles on ultra at 4k, it cant even hit 60fps, and that's with raytracing not even enabled) hell I don't think Nvidia know what they're dealing with.

If china can build a GPU, or intel to run ms fs, we may see stability in pricing, or not.
