Halo Infinite Release Date Is December 8 For Campaign And Multiplayer

Halo Infinite will launch in December, the latest ever for a mainline release.

Halo Infinite will finally release on December 8, Microsoft announced as part of the Gamescom Opening Night Live event on Wednesday. The date was no surprise, as it leaked earlier in the day.

The intro cinematic for Halo Infinite's multiplayer season one was also revealed, along with a special-edition Halo Infinite Xbox Series X console and a special-edition Xbox Elite controller.

Some parts of the Halo community shared their disappointment over a release date in December for being later than they would have wanted. The 20th anniversary of Halo and Xbox is November 15, but there was never any indication or suggestion that Microsoft would launch Halo Infinite on or close to that day to celebrate the milestone.

A release date in December would be the latest ever in the year for a mainline Halo game. Halo: Combat Evolved launched in November 2001, Halo 2 debuted in November 2004, Halo 3 came out in September 2007, and Halo 4 launched in November 2012. Halo 5, which is the latest entry in the mainline series, premiered in October 2015.

Fans have been waiting a while for Halo Infinite, as it was originally scheduled to release in 2020 before being delayed an entire year. The game won't launch with all of its planned features, as Forge and campaign co-op are coming sometime after release.

At last. Super pumped for this game. Can't wait to explore Zeta Halo and take down some Elites and Brutes. Finally Microsoft have seemingly built what oldschool fans have wanted ever since Combat Evolved. A more open ended "open worldesque" Halo adventure that has a sense of mystery and discovery. A world with a sense of awe that makes you want to explore every nook and cranny every cave and valley. At least that's what I'm looking for out of Infinite. Awesome multiplayer is icing on top. However, even though coop is only delayed til season 2 just some 3 months after launch, it is a huge fail and there's no denying it. Coop is one of the most important features of this game especially because of the giant scope of the world 343i are building. There's no excuse imo for it not to be there day one. I'm really disappointed about that.

Oh well i'll just leave my legendary play through with my son for when coop is ready and in the meantime try and learn as much about the rings terrain and enemies placements so when the time comes I'm ready. And concentrate on developing my multiplayer spartan career at the same time.

Not long now. Still can't wait.

I get where they are coming from, but I have to make buying decisions that are right for me.

That means no co-op, no purchase.

Let me know when you add it back in.

Im glad we are getting the campaign upfront, even if it’s only single player for now. However, that trailer was hot garbage.

@xnshd: I mean, the article talks about fan reaction to the news, so it's pretty clear everybody knows this isn't a reveal.

Wait, so the campaign can be purchased by itself? And it's launching without campaign co op? Then this means i can play it offline?

@gr4h4m833zy: The multiplayer can be played for free without purchasing the rest, but it's not like the campaign can be purchased standalone for a discount, the whole paid portion of the game is still $60

@Spartan_418: The campaign can be played on Game Pass without having to shell $60....then when they remove the game from Game Pass, if you have beaten it you won't need to pay the $60 anyway to continue multiplayer because it will be free so essentially you can play this game and never have to pay.

@bababooey12:

The game will never be removed from Gamepass. All 1st party Xbox games will be available on Gamepass permanently.

@bababooey12: A sound strategy, though Microsoft's own games are never really removed from Game Pass (except for weird cases where maybe a game's music licenses expire). The third party games rotate while first party games are permanent

@Spartan_418: Yes I've noticed that too here lately. They do seem to keep their first party titles in there which is great considering there are tons coming up. I hope it doesn't change. I was a little disappointed when GTA5 left lol but luckily it didn't cost much to buy.

That's an excellent release date, giving themselves plenty of space away from Battlefield and Call of Duty.

@xnshd: This year's CoD seems like another CoD so far, but Battlefield actually looks pretty cool. BF might have a pretty entrenched player base by the time Infinite launches.

@mogan: yes and as you say another cod will sell like hot cakes and have over twice the playerbase of both halo and battlefield combined just like every other year.

it being just another cod isn't stopping anyone buying it, personally i don't care for the franchise but its just facts that it will swallow the other shooters launching this year whole when it comes to playerbase numbers a few months after launch.

@xnshd: There won't be anybody left if they keep falsely banning everybody...yes I'm sure there will be tons of players for COD, Halo and BF have their own player base too and it's by no means small. Therefore to think BF and Halo will after a couple of months be nothing player wise I think is a bit Naive.

@xnshd: Now, probably not hundreds of thousands but Halo 5 has been out for quite a while. In December when the next one releases it will have been just over 6 years since Halo 5. I wasn't fan of that one but have a renewed interest in Halo Infinite. I feel that it will bring in quite a bit of players old and new.

To say hundreds of thousands don't play Halo is funny. I mean Halo 5 they didn't release total sales etc. 2015 is when they stopped releasing sales numbers, hardware and games.

Halo 4 though apparently sold $500 million in games and related hardware in its first week. I would think there were hundreds of thousands or more like millions playing it.

@xnshd: lol we'll see Add in that you can play the mutiplayer for free and campaign etc on Game Pass without having to drop $60. I mean I'll be playing BF as well. COD won't even be a thought for me, especially the new one WW2 has been over done time to move on.

@xnshd: The fact that Microsoft will have a massive hype release, a month apart is all Halo Infinite needs.

@johnny0779: halo will do decent for the first few months because free MP but thats it, it will not last as with all halo's and this one looks the least promising for a long time. no coop campaign or forge at launch WTF is that about, literally not launching with features that define the halo series. 343 need to be taken off halo after infinite and give the series to another more competent developer.

hell at this point i think alot of microsoft's franchise's should just be given to playground games because they seem to be the only studio MS have that is guaranteed to release top quality games.

i have a feeling fable is going to be fantastic under playgrounds development and after that honestly just give gears and halo to them aswell.

@xnshd: As I stated above..both BF. Halo, Gears etc, have their own player base which is by no means small...yea is it as big compared to like COD no...but COD or rather Activision is shooting themselves in the foot here lately their anti-cheating system is a joke and the reason I quit playing the game...keep falsely banning people and the base is going to dwindle...made worse by the fact they don't tell you why you were banned just flat out ban you with no warning or explantion....

What defines Halo is its Multiplayer which will be there day one as will the campaign just not co-op...it's not like the campaign won't be there. Hardly would I consider Forge defining for Halo nor would I really consider Co-op to be that defining now a days. Nobody is saying co-op isn't nice but this isn't the early 2000s lol Multiplayer is largely what defines a game especially that of an FPS.

After playing Halo Infinite, I'm happy with what they're doing and that's with not liking Halo 5. The Multiplayer is reminding me of the Halo 2 days with that said I anticipate it on being a huge game even months after release...even more so because of the free aspect and Game Pass.

@bababooey12: people have been saying for years that cod's numbers will fall and it still hasnt if anything it has only gotten bigger.

anti cheat is coming with vanguard which might help the cheating problem but again even with the cheating problem people still play it more than any other game.

@xnshd: Well they lost one person with their anti cheat system....the problem is their anti cheat system not the lack of....I wasn't complaining about the cheaters. I was stating how they falsely ban players for cheating and can't be bothered to even give a warning or explantion as to why they ban somebody too. In my case I spent money to buy the most recent COD game, plus skins etc. I hadn't played a COD game since the first one. Then after 6 or 7 months of playing I was banned for 7 days. I had no warning and was never told why. Then afterwards my Activision name was changed to a bunch of numbers and I couldn't change it back for 6 months.

I assumed I was ban for cheating but still don't know why....all I can say though is it left a hatred for Activision. I was like well guess I'm going back to never playing COD again. BF is coming out soon anyway and Halo next. I mean I'm sure I wasn't the only one falsely banned. I believe too, I wouldn't be the only one feeling a certain type of way, especially if I had to play for 6 months using username so so(fill in with numbers).
