[UPDATE] A Microsoft representative issued a statement to Kotaku on the matter.
"We're aware some users are experiencing issues playing Halo: Reach via Xbox One backward compatibility. The Xbox engineering team is currently looking into the issues and are working to address them," the representative said.
The original story is below.
Halo: Reach was released on Xbox One through backwards compatibility earlier this month. But unfortunately, the 2010 Xbox 360 game is apparently running into some issues in the emulated version.
There are numerous reports online in forums and Reddit where players are complaining that Halo: Reach's frame rate on Xbox One is less than ideal.
"We need to talk about the Halo: Reach port to Xbox One," someone wrote in the Halo Waypoint forums. "It's unplayable! I'm getting 10-20 FPS whereas my 360 runs it at a smooth 25-30 FPS..."
Other people in that thread, as well as other threads online, report encountering similar problems.
It's probably a stretch to say Halo: Reach's Xbox One version is "unplayable," but it seems pretty clear than the Xbox 360 version is the best choice right now if you're looking for a smoother experience.
A new video, from YouTube channel VG Tech (above) offers a good comparison of the two versions (via Kotaku). This other video demonstrates how the frame rate/lag can negatively impact gameplay in some sections.
Emulation processes can be improved over time, so it's possible that performance of Halo: Reach (and other games with reported problems) may get better down the road.
