The NYXI Wizard can be used in handheld mode as Joy-Con replacements or as a wireless pro-style controller.

Nintendo Switch owners can swap out their Joy-Con for a GameCube-inspired controller for less during Amazon's Big Spring Sale. The NYXI Wizard, a pro-style controller that works in handheld and docked modes, is on sale for $59.49 (was $70).

You can also save on NYXI's other GameCube-themed controller, the Warrior--and although this one only works in docked mode, it doubles as a wireless controller for actual GameCube hardware. To complete your nostalgic set, check out NYXI Striker Wireless Mechanical Keyboard, which was designed with the color scheme of the purple GameCube.

GameCube-Inspired Switch Joy-Con Alternative

$59.49 ($70)

The NYXI Wizard acts as an alternative to Joy-Con controllers. You can attach them to your Switch just like Nintendo's official controllers to play Super Smash Bros. Ultimate with the GameCube controller form factor, or you can keep them connected together to have a chunky GameCube-style controller for docked play.

Beyond the familiar shape and input arrangement, the controller also comes with Hall Effect joysticks, which are far more durable and more resistant to drifting than the sticks on a typical Joy-Con. The ABXY face buttons feature customizable color effects that sync with your gaming actions, there are two programmable back buttons, and six-Axis gyroscope motion-sensing technology for games that require twists and turns. Pretty useful for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe!

Additionally, the programmable buttons have adjustable turbo response and vibration intensity and the mechanical triggers can be fine-tuned to provide rapid-fire accuracy in competitive games. Overall, this makes for a robust and feature-packed controller, especially for when you want to play ports of classic GameCube titles on your Switch.

NYXI also has a wireless controller for Switch that works on actual GameCube hardware, too.. The NYXI Warrior supports Bluetooth for Switch and PC, but it comes with a wireless receiver that can be plugged into your GameCube's controller port. The Warrior is a pro-style controller with an impressive spec sheet. It has Hall Effect sticks, microswitch buttons, swappable back paddles, and turbo functionality. It's a high-end controller that's definitely worth checking out, especially if you want a new controller for your GameCube.

The Warrior is discounted to $62 (was $69) when you click Amazon's coupon code on the store page, but the only color in stock is purple.

GameCube-Inspired Wireless Mechanical Keyboard

$85 (was $100)

If you love the color scheme of the GameCube's purple controller, NYXI's Striker Wireless Gaming Keyboard. Normally $100, this eye-catching, 97-key mechanical keyboard is discounted to $85 during Amazon's Big Spring Sale. It connects wirelessly to your PC or Mac with a 2.4GHz dongle or Bluetooth 5.0--though you can also use it as a wired keyboard. The Striker has hot-swappable ABS switches and a PC app to customize macros and adjust other settings.

The Striker is an RGB keyboard with 22 different colors and numerous lighting effect settings. Next to the volume roller you'll find a fairly unique little extra: a dot matrix display that produces monochrome animations, which you can personalize in the PC app.

I bought this controller about a year ago and it worked well enough, while they are attached to the Switch console, but once you try to use them as a standalone controller... hold on to your butts, this lag is gonna get crazy! They just don't work well detached from the console and when they are attached the thing is big time bulky.

Other than the aesthetics of this controller, it is NOT worth it. Connection issues, one will connect while the other won't, have to use two(2) separate USB C charge cords to charge them individually, the lag is unbearable (so don't plan on playing Smash using these things as stand-alone controllers), the buttons can be unresponsive and the control sticks became very unresponsive after only a month of owning them.

They are on sale because they have a bunch of unsold stock for a bad piece of merchandise.

@Gaticus: Weird, I've had them since release - zero lag when docked and zero issues with the controller buttons or sticks.

You can now buy a bridge separately to charge them with just one cable, but they also charge while connected to the Switch anyway.

The only issue I have is if you've been playing something with the stock button layout it can be hard to adjust to the CG style button layout.

Hard disagree, it's an excellent controller.

@bu1ld0g: I'm glad that it works really well for you, but it is a dust magnet for me at this point. I was really hopeful when I originally purchased it, but it proved my excitement to be just hype for the nostalgic look once I got it and had used it.

We have smash Bros get togethers and I have lots of controllers for the switch, this one remains unchosen, like the last chosen child in a game of dodge-ball... not very good.

Again, I am happy to hear that people have a functioning version of this controller, I must have gotten a bad one. and I never said there was any lag while docked, please read the very first line of my post again for reference to this.

Less than excellent for me, but I probably got a defective unit and should just cannibalize it and some other controllers to make it work better.

@bu1ld0g: You kinda mis-read and reposted part of my original post out of context and missing the part that actually notes that it does work without lag while attached to the console.

I'll provide it here Bold font is the area where I state they work well enough while attached to the switch, the underlined font is where I state that it doesn't work well 'detached' (standalone) from the console:

"I bought this controller about a year ago and it worked well enough, while they are attached to the Switch console, but once you try to use them as a standalone controller... hold on to your butts, this lag is gonna get crazy!..."

Then I noted this to you in my last post Bold font is where I note that you should properly read my original post:

"Again, I am happy to hear that people have a functioning version of this controller, I must have gotten a bad one. and I never said there was any lag while docked, please read the very first line of my post again for reference to this."

My dislike for my bad version of the controller shouldn't hold you back from enjoying it yourself.

Let me know if I mis-wrote something else that could be misleading or contradictory in my original post, or even my response post.

@Gaticus: I didn't misread anything.....

Standalone is docked. Docked is when they aren't attached to the switch. The Switch is docked.

You said they lag when docked...

@bu1ld0g: You're right you didn't misread it, you just don't know what "Standalone" means, please see it's definition below, as it pertains to hardware and software specifically:

adjective: standalone

  1. (of computer hardware or software) able to operate independently of other hardware or software.

I used that word to denote that I meant when it was detached from the switch console and being used as a standalone controller that is NOT attached to the Switch console..

Hope that clarifies this for you. Sorry for the confusion.

"zero lag when docked"

Docked is used to describe when the Switch is in it's DOCK, meaning the controller is STANDALONE.

The only person misreading things here is you.

It might be my taste, colourwise, however it look nice, nontheless. I mean, if you want to have controller that is different from your friend's [Nintendo switch controller], then go for it. I think these controllers fits well for kids who loves to set themselves apart from their friends.

The gameswise, [for these lovely controllers], it look probadly great with games like Bio Shock, Silent Hill, Until Dawn, etc (these games are not my style, however I heared they are great games in their own rights). Even the Sims 4 & 5 players would want these controllers. Don't be shocked to see even adults buying these [controllers] at the Games store.
