HBO Max's Green Lantern Casts Finn Wittrock As Guy Gardner

Wittrock will play one of the most intense Green Lanterns in comic book history.

HBO Max's upcoming Green Lantern TV show has found one of its leads. The series added Finn Wittrock to the cast as Guy Gardner. The news was revealed by DC Comics.

Wittrock is best known for his role as Dandy Mott in the Freakshow season of American Horror Story. This is the first casting news from the HBO Max show. Back in January, the show was ordered to series, and Green Lantern's first season will consist of 10 hour-long episodes.

The upcoming TV series will be written and executive produced by Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim, and Seth Grahame-Smith. Joining them are EPs Geoff Johns, Sarah Schechter, David Katzenberg, and David Madden.

Gardner was Earth's third Green Lantern--fourth if you count Alan Scott, who wasn't part of the Green Lantern Corps. While the character first appeared in DC Comics in 1968, the version most people are familiar with showed up in the '80s and was reintroduced by Steve Englehart and Joe Staton. The duo reinvented him as the ultimate "man's man," as Gardner was steeped in masculinity and seen as a parody.

While Gardner has yet to appear on the big screen, he's had numerous animated series appearances, including a lead role for a bit on Green Lantern: The Animated Series, where he as voiced by Diedrich Bader. Additionally, Gardner appeared on Batman: The Brave and the Bold and was voiced by James Arnold Taylor.

HBO Max continues to build its catalog of original series, recently adding Warrior Season 3 to the service and a revival of the sitcom Head of the Class.

Wasted opportunity. Should had tried to get Charlie Hunnam or Robert Kazinsky. You need a tough macho confident looking guy who knows what the sheit is happening and what he is doing. Inside that tough exterior is a heart of guy who considers everyone in the Corps as family. That's why Gardner is considered the Alpha Corps team lead. While GLs Jordan, Stewart and Rayner are awesome on their own right, it is Gardner who they consult for tough decisions.

@sebb: It's Gardner, and I have no idea what you're doing in a post about comic book characters if you don't know anything about them.

There's also a character named Superman. Take about 3 seconds and realize how fucking stupid that sounds.

@Barighm: I never said that.

I'm comparing it to network tv. In which case absolutely, without question it is quality compared to CW or FOX trash.

This is literally like comparing an AAA flagship title to an AA Indy game. Better CGI, better acting, better editing, better directing. Even some of the most mediocre HBO stuff makes network tv shlock seem like unwatchable filth.

Heck even in terms of budget the analogy holds.
