HBO Shares First Official Pic Of Dune: Prophecy

Catch the first look at Emily Watson as Valya Harkonnen in Dune: Prophecy.

Following the release of Dune: Part Two earlier this year, the sci-fi universe created by Frank Herbert has never been bigger. Later this year, HBO and Max will premiere Dune: Prophecy, a prequel series that takes place 10,000 years before the events of the films. Now, HBO has shared the first official picture of Emily Watson as Valya Harkonnen, the head of the Sisterhood that will evolve into the Bene Gesserit.

No Caption Provided

Watson is the co-lead of the series opposite Olivia Williams, who plays Valya's sister, Tula Harkonnen. The Harkonnen siblings may not always see eye-to-eye, but they have a common goal to safeguard humanity's future. However, there are a lot of obstacles in their way.

Jodhi May also stars in the series as Empress Natalya, the new wife of Emperor Javicco Corrino (Mark Strong). Additionally, Sarah-Sofie Boussnina co-stars as Princess Ynez, alongside Shalom Brune-Franklin as Mikaela, Faoileann Cunningham as Sister Jen, Aoife Hinds as Sister Emeline, Chloe Lea as Lila, Travis Fimmel as Desmond Hart, Jade Anouka as Sister Theodosia, and Chris Mason as Keiran Atreides.

Diane Ademu-John created the series, which is based on Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson's Sisterhood of Dune. HBO and Max will release Dune: Prophecy this fall, but an exact premiere date hasn't been set yet.

When I saw the small thumbnail I thought Melissa McCarthy had joined the Dune universe as comic relief.

Isn't 10,000 years before Dune our time period? Long before the Butlerian Jihad?

@jedijax: No actually, Dune is more like 25,000 years into the future. Paul's time was 10,191 A.G. (After the Guild). The Dune Encyclopedia also states that the first use of atomic weapons by humanity was in 14,255 B.G. (Before Guild) -- or 1945 in IRL.
