HBO's The Last Of Us Season 2 Could Start Filming This Year
Pedro Pascal says there is a chance that Season 2 will enter production this year.
HBO's adaptation of The Last of Us video game has become an instant classic in the span of a couple of months, bringing the story of Joel and Ellie's journey to the forefront of pop culture. While Season 1 is about to wrap up with only two episodes left, speculation has officially begun when Season 2 will start production, and it could be sooner than we originally thought.
Star Pedro Pascal spoke with Collider and teased the start date of the upcoming season. The actor was asked if Season 2 would begin filming this year, and after Pascal gave it some thought, he said there is definitely a chance.
"In the year 2023? What season are we in now? We're getting into spring, yes there is a chance. Yes," he quickly replied. Production of Season 1 began in 2021, with the first episode wrapping up in August of that year. There was so much that went into this first season that even if it started production this year, it's up in the air if it would be released next year.
Season 1 has all of the events of the first game with Season 2 possibly taking on the complete second game, but by comparison, The Last of Us Part II is almost double the length in terms of story. There's also a lot of story to tell as Parts I and II have five years of time between them, but that hasn't stopped the show's creators from dropping hints of things to come, like the possible Dina cameo in Episode 6.
HBO's The Last of Us airs on HBO Max on Sundays at 6 PM PT / 9 PM ET, with the Season 1 finale airing on March 12.
