Headfirst looks for new Cthulhu publisher

When Hip Interactive folded in July, it left a handful of in-development games in the lurch, among them a title under development by Headfirst Productions. Headfirst announced that it is looking for an alternate publisher for the game, Call of Cthulhu: Destiny's End, due in mid-2006 on the PlayStation 2, Xbox, and PC.

Based on author H.P. Lovecraft's Call of Cthulhu series, Destiny's End is a third-person survival horror game with cooperative multiplayer gameplay. Headfirst's initial foray into Lovecraft's lore, the Xbox first-person shooter Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth, is scheduled to ship from publisher 2K Games next month. A PC edition is scheduled for release next year, and an Xbox sequel, Beyond the Mountains of Madness, has already been announced. A PlayStation 2 version of Dark Corners of the Earth and a stand-alone Cthulhu title for the system, Tainted Legacy, were previously canceled.

Cthulhu isn't the only horror franchise on the prowl for a publisher in the wake of Hip Interactive's demise. Last month, developer Kuju announced that it was shopping around George Romero's City of the Dead, a first-person shooter Hip had signed on to publish earlier this year.
