Heavy Gear Hits the Airwaves

Paradox Entertainment's Heavy Gear franchise will be made into an animated television series.

Sony has signed a deal with Paradox Entertainment to produce 40 half-hour animated television shows based on the Heavy Gear franchise. The series is scheduled to air this winter in the US. Sony also has plans to produce a feature-length film based on Heavy Gear, pending the success of the television program. Paradox previously sold the rights to produce Heavy Gear PC games to Activision, which then sold in excess of 500,000 copies of the first two Heavy Gear games. Japanese toy maker Bandai is currently developing toys for the series.

"In addition to royalty revenues, this cooperation means that our brands are strengthened and spread to a larger audience, which in turn represents potential consumers of our online games," said Fredrik Malmberg, executive producer of Heavy Gear.
