Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice Coming To VR, And You Could Already Own It
For the low, low price of zero dollars if you already own it.
Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice has already gotten a fair bit of attention as a sleeper hit from 2017, and soon players will be able to experience it in a whole new way. Developer Ninja Theory is releasing a VR Edition on Steam for Oculus Rift and HTC Vive on July 31. Best of all, if you already own the game on Steam, or if you purchase it anytime in the future, you'll get the VR edition for free.
The VR edition includes the full original game along with customizable comfort options and "additional experimental game modes," according to the announcement. In a development diary (below) the studio talks about how it addressed problems of camera movement and getting the frame rate properly smooth for VR.
Hellblade won the most awards of the 2017 BAFTA Games Awards with five in all. Those included Artistic Achievement, Audio Achievement, Best British Game, Game Beyond Entertainment, and Best Performer.
GameSpot's Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice review praised its satisfying combat and an inventive story that tackled the complex issue of mental illness. It also earned a spot on our Games of the Year 2017. The studio followed through on its themes itself, by donating to mental health charities.
