Here's How Gran Turismo 7 Make Use Of All The PS5's New Features

Sony has committed to making its PS5 exclusives only compatible with their next-generation console, which ostensibly allows each game to make full use of its new features. And with Polyphony's Gran Turismo 7, Sony is hoping to showcase exactly that.

In an interview with The Guardian, PlayStation Europe executive vice president, Simon Rutter, says that exclusives are more important than ever now for PlayStation. "Through their proximity to the system’s designers, PlayStation’s studios are able to really extract the most out of the system performance and that's a really valuable attribute for a platform holder to have," Rutter explained.

An example is Gran Turismo 7. Rutter stated that players will not only be able to race without having to wait for load screens between events, but also enjoy an expanded sound stage thanks to Sony's work with 3D audio. "Sitting in the cockpit, the 3D audio allows you to hear the thunderous roar of a Ferrari behind you or in front of you, and you can recognize the difference between that and the engine noise of a Maserati," continued Rutter.

Perhaps the most interesting aspect of PS5 support has to do with the new DualSense controller. As previously detailed, the controller is designed with advanced haptic feedback in its triggers, letting games convey a sense of tension and resistance. In the case of Gran Turismo 7, Rutter says that this will allow players to feel the differences between tarmac and gravel racing surfaces, or the inherit difference in resistance between a soft accelerator pedal and a harder one for the brakes.

Gran Turismo 7 is just one of many PS5 exclusives revealed during Sony's recent stream, which included first looks at Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, and Horizon Forbidden West. Although Sony have yet to price the PS5, PlayStation boss Jim Ryan says the company is prioritizing value over price, and that an announcement will come soon.
