Here's When Battlefield 1 Beta May Start; Rush Mode Confirmed

The public beta will kick off "shortly after" Gamescom.

The previously announced open beta for Battlefield 1 will kick off "shortly after" Gamescom 2016, according to a Battlefield community manager.

Sebastian Moritz, Battlefield's community manager for Germany, revealed the rough start time during a livestream interview this week with CmdKrieger (via DualShockers). Gamescom runs August 17-21, so it seems like the beta will start in late August or early September.

EA previously confirmed that the Battlefield 1 beta would begin sometime this summer, so this matches up. The publisher held a briefing at Gamescom in 2015, but it remains to be seen if it will this year. If so, that could be a venue for the beta's official announcement.

Moritz also mentioned that people in the Battlefield Insiders program will get to play three days early. Previously, all EA had said was that Insiders would get early access.

You can sign up as an Insider here on the official Battlefield website. Perks include "in-game rewards, exclusive content, and sneak peeks at news about Battlefield," as well as details on other EA games.

Also during the livestream, Moritz made Battlefield fans happy by confirming that the popular Rush mode will return. However, there is no word yet on how it may be changed from previous iterations. We also don't know if it will show up in the beta.

GameSpot recently played the Battlefield 1 alpha. You can check out some footage in the video above, while more videos are available here.

Battlefield 1 launches on October 21 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.

This is, at least to me anyway, a bit of warning sign. How long did the Alpha run for? A week? Suddenly, a few weeks later, a BETA comes out with a date on when it will be released. It's almost as if they just made two demos to create buzz for this game. We, as consumers, are told that this game will be completely finalized and will win out with a stable product. What we essentially have here is a lie. EA, from what I can tell, are releasing a game that will be a slight to complete mirror image on the release of Battle Field 4. Buggy, messy, crashes and all the like will probably be there.

I have to give it to Dice, the engine in this game is running at tip top shape. Look at Battlefront on the PS4/Xbox one, it looks amazing. I don't doubt this won't be in Battlefield 1. I just have my doubts that this game will be running well from launch and I have my doubts that the "Alpha" and the upcoming "Beta" are indeed Alpha and Beta. It's more like "Early Demo" and "Late Demo."

@kennykenkennn: They've been doing this for years. Everyone knows that the "Beta" is actually a demo at this point. If you're concerned with the build stability at launch, then wait a bit before buying it. Maybe I'll do the same.

@sargentpsgamer:Titanfall and BF are totally different games, not just the lore, but the mechanics as well, one is fast paste close to a platformer and other is more strategic, both seem great, don't see why people would hate on either.

@qub: Gameplay wise BF1 seems just OK. Its the setting and its ingame representation thats drives me off. As JGui wrote - WWI with loads of automatic small arms?

Don't get me wrong, I've spand 97h on BF3, 236h on BF4 and 83h on Titanfall. BF1 just didn't click with me.

@SHOGUN_YAMATO: You know just because the US wasn't issues automatic weapons in WW1 doesn't mean the automatic weapons that are in the game didn't actually exist, because they did and were very much used. The Beretta Model 1918 (automatico m1918) was issued to the Italian Armed forces for example. To write this game off just because the game uses automatic small arms that existed and were used in WW1 is very ignorant to say the least.

@Rushaoz: Look whose ignorant:

You mentioned 1 (ONE) SMG that entered service in 1918, they your the WWI ended.

I just got a quick look here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_infantry_weapons_of_World_War_I

Out of 23 countries that took part in WWI there are only 10 weapons that could (and some were) be feasibly used by a single infantryman effectively, two of which are SMGs which entered service in 1918, one SMG that was used on aircraft, and the other seven being LMGs of various sorts:

Beretta M1918 - entered service in 1918, Italy (first mass produced SMG ever)

MP 18 - designed 1916, entered service in 1918, Germany. Used by the Sturmtruppen.

Villar-Perosa aircraft submachine gun - designed 1914, issued to infantry in 1916, Italy. One battalion (300 to 800 soldiers) had first a section (7 to 12 soldiers) and eventually 3 (21 to 36 soldiers) armed with these guns.

Bergmann MG 15nA machine gun, fired from a bipod - designed 1910, entered service in 1915, modernized in 1916, Germany. Ordered in greater quantity (6000 units) after battle of Somme.

Knötgen automatic rifle - designed 1910/11, a two barrel, magazine fed light machine gun, Germany. More information is unavailable, must have been an obscure weapon.

Parabellum MG 14 - designed 1913, entered service 1914, used on aircraft and first German gun to use the synchronizing technology (not to shot the propeller blades off). It wasn’t used by infantry though it could be as it was light enough.

Hotchkiss M1909 Benét–Mercié machine gun - designed in 1901, entered service in 1909, France. Around 700 were built, used in cavalry and tank units. Weighing 12 kg could still be used as an LMG with a bipod.

Chauchat - designer 1907, entered service in 1908, first true LGM but the open magazines sides made it prone to jams due to dirt and mud getting into the gun.

Lewis gun - designed in 1911, entered service in 1914, USA. Used extensively by the British, the German Empire and everyone else. Apart from the Chauchat this is the only automatic weapons that could be used by all sides in BF1 without making it look out of place.

Madsen machine gun - designed in 1896, adopted in 1902, Denmark. As with Chauchat and Lewis gun the last weapon that was employed by many countries, was light enough to be carried by one man, but firing from the hip or aiming down the sights without deploying it on its bipod would be rather counterproductive.

The rest of the automatic weapons of the period were MGs weighing from 15 to 60 kg (with tripods, wheel carts, AA mounts etc.) so they are out of the question.

For a typical infantry soldier bolt action rifles were the only firearms they would ever use during the war, followed by revolvers and pistols (for officers and pilots), shotguns, flamethrowers, grenades and all sorts of medieval style melee weapons. There we just get a ton or artillery pieces starting from mortars and ending with railroad cannons, ships and in late war tanks, which could be outrun by infantry and were is some cases as dangerous to their crews as to the enemy.

@SHOGUN_YAMATO: I suppse that's what the 1918 in the guns name is referring to. Thanks ks for clearing that up but I wouldn't consider myself completely ignorant. Regardless, DICE has stated that this game is alternate history so they're free to do what they want without skewing up things too much. Which they haven't. People should really play the game before they judge it. It really is a ton of fun and in my eyes the best Battlefield since BF2. (So far. We'll see how the rest of the game stacks up com October.)

@hystavito: not much true about WW1. Yo usee some trailers with a soldier running above a Zeppelin shootinh a automaica submachine gun.

Maybe the story is there (if it have a Single Palyer) but the multiplayer has NOTHING new to offer. It is a BF4 skin, lets face it. A bunch of dudes running around with ALL weapons on automatic. Nah!!! I will keep my Red Orchestra 2 and that's ok for me.

Well, to be fair, the graphics are insane!

When the first trailer came out. My hype was out of the roof.

After seen gameplays, I noticed a fast paced game with not much new to offer. A WW1 with automatic rifles. Nah. This is BS.

@jgui: Are you saying automatic weapons didn't exist in WW1? Because they very much did and were used. The US didn't issue them to our forces but that doesn't mean they weren't used in the entirety of WW1. That's just plain ignorant if that's what you're thinking.

And the first trailer plays out exactly like the multiplayer does so I'm not exactly sure what killed your hype for the game. I'm in the closed alpha. Very much loving the game. Play it first before you judge it. Everyone that has played it has nothing but glowing things to say about it. The only people hating are the ones that haven't.

@Rushaoz: I am not saying automatic weapons didn't existed in WW1. They did, but in EXTREMELY few samples.

Light machine guns were not ever standart equipment. the first german machine gun that was even evectivly usable by just one man was the mp18 and it was only produced 35000 times. Other guns used by the different armies like the BAR or Chauchat, were not even operable by one man, because they were to heavy and therefore very hard to handle.

Standart equipment for most soldiers was a bolt action rifle, grenades and a pistol.

The game tematic could have SO MUCH potential. Squads with rifles and stationary MG's... team work using TACTICS!!! Think about for a second man!

All I see is a bf4 skin... players running around in a fast paced mindless FPS. Go have your fun then. As a Battlefield fan and veteran for many years/games, Im not stupid. All I see is the same I've been playing for years now with BF 4 and 3.

@jgui: I'm a BF vet myself. All the way back to BF1942. I put more hours than I would have liked into Desert Combat mod. Battlefield games were NEVER about realism, which seems to me is what you're expecting from BF1. If realism is what you want, Red Orchestra is more you're cup of tea. Except for Bad Company 2, every Battlefield plays the same. Yes the mechanics have evolved (for better IMO) but did you expect them not to? People can vault, sprint, climb over walls, etc. Also, fast paced mindless FPS? What game are you referring to? Just because you can sprint doesn't make a game fast paced. Unreal Tournament is fast paced, not Battlefield.

Not to mention that DICE made very clear that the game would not follow WW1 and would instead be an alternate history WW1. I'm glad they did this. If the game played out the way most people like yourselves wanted it to, it would be extremely boring.

Either ways, whatever floats your boat man. I'm loving it. So are my clanmates and most people that are playing the game now. I just think your opinion is extremely flawed and in-line with most "haters" that don't actually know a thing about the game they're criticizing.

@Rushaoz: nah man. We could stay here talking for a loong time.

But is not hate, calm youself down. I am a 30yo dude, that played a lot of BF and whatnot. The glory days of Battlefield are gone, lets face it.

If you enjoy playing the same game and paying for it again. Good for you. Its a matter of opinion and taste, I have mine, and you have yours. Period.

And if you think one can't make his mind by seeing gameplay of a game. As a veteran as you said, you should know better, buddy.

@jgui: I DO know and I beg to differ. I loved the classics about as much as any BF vet but my eyes aren't covered by elitist shades. Playing something for yourself is much different than seeing gameplay on a youtube video. The beta is out soon. What better way to experience a game than experiencing it for free. Reserve judgement until you actually play it. Calling the game a BF4 reskin is downright incorrect when the only thing the games have in common are the engine and game modes..

@Dilandau88: Didn't, seen the announcement trailer, seen all the gameplay footage that is available on the net, didn’t like it. My wife too. And since we both play most online shooters together and after seeing Titanfall 2 gameplay trailers and footage, my wife just said – “I’ll take it”. We both enjoyed BF3, and currently BF4 and Titanfall together. Well as much as Sir Cottage Cheese allows us to that is :P

@revanxknight: Titanfall 2 looks more fun so far. All the videos of Titanfall 2 show a dynamic play style with different approaches.

Every BF1 gameplay shows a person running around with a sniper. Get in a plane, get shot by a sniper. Hide in a building, have it explode, get shot by a sniper. Yay.....
