Hideo Kojima Teases New Project With Nothing But Question Words

Using a previously revealed image, Kojima promised that more information would come soon.

Hideo Kojima has once again teased his upcoming project, albeit with a slight elaboration on an already-released cryptic image.

On September 15, the Kojima Productions website updated with the image of a silhouetted face, lit from behind so that facial features cannot be seen. The image is superimposed with the text "Who Am I?" In the darkness at the bottom of the image, there is a peculiar symbol resembling double doors, as well as the Kojima Productions logo. The original release of the image prompted speculation that the face belonged to Elle Fanning, but the identity of the figure has yet to be revealed. Today, Kojima shared the same image with this accompanying text, "The answer to 'WHO' at TGS will be in the next 'WHERE'."

The exact meaning of this post is a bit tricky to parse and we likely won't fully know until after the answer has been revealed, but it would seem to indicate that more information will be announced at an upcoming trade show or press conference. This could be The Game Awards, which broadcasts on December 9, 2022, but the phrasing "the next where" is vague enough to cast doubt on even safe bets.

Exactly what project this tweet refers to is also in doubt, as Kojima has potentially multiple projects in the works. He announced an Xbox project at Gamescom which would utilize cloud technology. Norman Reedus has also let slip that that a sequel to Death Stranding is currently in production.

@molinars: thank you! I’ve never seen a game developer so far up his own ass as much as Kojima is.

Is he finally questioning himself about his obsession with himself, I hope so because maybe he’ll realise he’s not actually as great as he thinks he is

@rodoxthedark: Hideo is actually very humble. He uses public transport, talks with fans and does pictures, is always polite, he made great games, I do not understand the hatred of so many. Not even once was he arrogant. Even when Konami kicked him out, he never lashed out, never complained.

@phili878: People hate others that are successful because they themselves are not; and we erroneously believe that success is a measurement of an individual's worth. Money/Fame is easy to gauge, and is thus an easy measure of someone's worth. If you don't agree with someone's success (their wealth or fame), then you feel that their worth is not valid. We gain nothing from hating successful people that we don't personally know, so the only logical reason we do it is to validate our own self worth, or feed our own ego in some similar way. Until we separate fame/wealth/success from an individual's worth as a being, there will always be hatred and tearing down other's that have more than us; because "we work just as hard", or "are just as creative", or "could do the exact same thing they're doing", and we don't experience that same amount of success.

tl;dr get over yourself and be happy that someone is contributing to another person's well being and happiness. Stop justifying your own insecurity about your worth as an individual by tearing others down.

@Thuban_23: Hard to argue that something as successful as MGSV is a shitty game. It was both a commercial and critical success.

I understand the hate behind Death Stranding, it’s not a game built for a broad audience. I haven’t completed it yet, but I did enjoy my time with it. Video games are like food, it comes down to personal tastes. If there was one correct way to make a burger we’d only have one burger restaurant that makes them. Instead we have McD’s, Wendy’s, In-N-Out, Five Guys, etc. And you have ma and pa shops making burgers too (indies). Just cause McDonald’s is the largest and most broadly appealing, doesn’t mean that is the standard to which we should hold burgers. Death Stranding is niche, but that unique flavor is what gives it appeal. Sometimes people just want to taste something wildly different, instead of the same cheeseburger done slightly different.

@ricklepick: Lol, I'm also raging from people tearing down Cyberpunk, which whether you hate it or not was a commercial success. I'm not going to deny it's in a rough state, but I love playing it and want more, and I'm not the only one. If CDPR gave in to the hate and didn't make a sequel I'd be pissed, because as rough as it is, it is still a fun game with an engaging world that I love spending time in. In that same vein, if No Man's Sky called it quits, we wouldn't have one of the best games of this generation. If you haven't played that game in the last two years, you're missing out on a cool and unique experience. It doesn't appeal to everyone, I get that. I myself have never been able to get into From Soft games as great as they are. But I can still appreciate the time and emotion put into it and feel no need to bash on it.

Someone can now take this soapbox, I'm finished with it.

@ricklepick: The Cyperpunk thing was that they knowingly released a broken, early access at best, game just to keep their investors happy and keep their preorders. It has nothing to do with "being mad at others success". Honestly CDPR had to keep working on the game because they had a post-release roadmap that has now been significantly trimmed down. It's great that they kept at it but its not like they had a choice.

Regarding Kojima: I'm just not a fan of the new auteur Kojima. The guy can't help but talk about himself, and his courtship of Hollywood is frankly cringe worthy and adds NOTHING to his games, except for a increased budget. "Ooooooh! Norman Reedus in this! Norman Reedus in that!" or "I was going to make a game like The Boys but then I got an arrow to the knee"

Bonus: "i'M fRaGiLe, BuT noT ThHAT fRaGiLe".
