Hitman's New Release Date is March 11, Here's What Will Be Included at Launch

IO Interactive also reveals second, cheaper digital package.

Following its recent delay, Square Enix has confirmed IO Interactive's latest Hitman title will be released on March 11, and detailed what will be included in the digital launch package.

The March 11 release will feature the "initial launch content," which contains the Paris, Sapienza, and Marrakesh locations, together comprising six campaign missions. These will all be replayable through the user-created Contracts missions, which allow players to designate new targets for assassination.

"For Contracts mode, you’ve got a combined pool of around 800 targets to craft your devious Contracts from, which means we’re expecting fantastic things," IO said.

Live content will also start being pushed out in March. This, according to the studio, includes "time-limited targets, weekly IO developed Contracts, and promoted content built by the very best of you out there."

After the initial launch, IO will release one new sandbox location per month in April, May, and June, each with their own missions, signature kills, and Contracts targets.

"Of course [each location will have] new disguises, weapons ,and ways of taking out your target. April takes you to Thailand, May will see you visiting the United States of America, and June sends you across the globe to Japan."

IO Interactive has also confirmed the digital release of Hitman will cost $59.99 (or the regional equivalent" and will give purchasers access to "everything."

"All the content we're planning on releasing, access to all live events and a secured spot in the Hitman Beta, which will be available on PlayStation 4 and PC only, [will be available for] no additional costs at any time.

A second version of the game, called the Intro Pack, will also be available and, for $34.99 (or the regional equivalent) will give purchasers all the content released in March, including the Live Events and Contracts. It will not, however, include anything beyond this, but an option to pupgrade will be available for $29.99 (or the regional equavalent.)

A physical version of the game is also expected for release later in 2016. Square Enix has not yet confirmed exactly when a disc will be available, but it is likely after all the content has been released digitally.

An infographic encapsulating all this information can be found below.

The new Hitman is due for release on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC across digital channels.

On September 22, developer IO Interactive announced the release of its latest Hitman title will be moved from December 2015 into March 2016 to expand what's available at launch.

"These few extra months will mean we can add more to the launch content of the game, more than we had originally planned, and then follow with a tighter frequency of updates, which ultimately will create a better game for everyone. And in the end, that’s what we’re all looking for," it said in a a statement.

So when the online content goes dark, we'll get no access to contract mode, challenges or even our goddamn statistics. This is beyond unacceptable for a singleplayer game.

Sounds good. I respect them for not going ahead and releasing an unfinished piece of garbage, and then working on fixing it after release like so many companies are happy to do these days.

@i-rock-socks: But you are a douche for calling someone a douche for any reason. My comment to the OP was merely a joke, your comment was pure spite. Whose the douche? You! But, you know, whatever makes you sleep better, bag of dirty douches.

So what they're saying is that they have basically six mission locations? So is this literally six levels?

I'll just wait for complete edition, like I always do with these episodic games.

Having said that, this seems awfully sparse for a full game.

I wouldn't say I'm a super fan of Hitman, but I enjoy the series. So far, the series has been so close to what I want from an assassin game, but the new direction their taking it does not interest me in the slightest.

I don't understand, you delay the game months and then only launch with 6 missions? Man this is terrible. I loved absolution but this isn't getting my money yet.

I love MGSV but I thought that 2 huge maps was not enough for the sake of variety...maybe developers should make the locations smaller and add new locations instead.

@cboye18: MGSV was supposed to have an island location as well and a new chapter, it was supposed to focus around Eli and have a very Lord of the Flies feel to it.

But will this pupgrade include a real puppy? If so, then I'm in.

I'll just buy it when all the content is out since it's basically worth $60 for the whole game.

Hmm, when they said it was going to be bigger than past Hitman games I expected a lot more sandbox locations... only 6 sounds rather disappointing, fewer unique locations than any past Hitman game, but if they deliver on the size and complexity of these levels it could still work out well.

There are just too many unknowns with this game for me to be interested right now... and that's from a longtime, HUGE Hitman fan, but I'm not really liking this technique. There's still a good chance I'l buy it, but not until after release and I hear some input from the community.

@nl_skipper: Yeah its incredibly disappointing and I believe the cause for this was that Hitman Absolution didn't sell as much as they wanted it to so they are trying to develop with a limited budget and an incredibly weird and confusing business model.

I was really excited when I heard Hitman Absolution had 20 missions....only to find out that around half of them were only like 15 minutes long. Still had a decent overall length though..

But 6 missions are just too few. They should find a perfect balance between quantity and quality.

I'm mostly just interested in the single player, so if it's good, I'll probably wait for it all to come out and then buy everything.

This is a really weird way to release a game. Definitely will just wait for the disk version; not worried about missing out on "live events" and what-not. Why wouldn't they just release the whole game at once? I don't get it, at all.

As a guy who spent 148 hours (according to Steam) in Hitman Absolution, and got all achievements, all I'm saying is that the Contracts mode just wasn't fun, I didn't find it appealing. I tried to create a few runs, played some Contracts made by others, but it gets boring after a while. I think the people who thought of the concept are proud of themselves, and good for them, but they shouldn't advertise the whole game on it like it's the most innovative thing ever.

As for the main content, Absolution at least had 20 missions, some divided in many segments, which made the game feel like it has diversity. I'm not saying Absolution wasn't streamlined, I'm not saying it's the best in the series, but it's not as bad as people who never played it say it is. And about this game, I don't know what you people saw, but I saw Absolution in this game all day long, not Blood Money, no matter what the developers want you to think. So they're giving us in the first episode 6 missions (hopefully not segments) spread accross 3 locations. That wouldn't be bad, if the game wasn't divided in 2 parts buying them separately being stupid, and so is the idiot who came up with the idea) consisting in a total of 6 locations and about 12 missions. Actually it's 4 parts, with 3 little ones, each one location, and I think they wanted to ship the first part only the Paris location, which makes me think Sapienza and Marrakesh are rushed junks.

Yeah, I'll wait for a huge discount.

@dranwarren: About the content, that's exactly a thing customers should be cautious about. If the initial release doesn't sell well, what's keeping them from half-assing the rest of the content? Sure, they can say a bunch of crap, but we've been around a lot to stop giving out benefits of doubt from the goodness of our hearts.

@immortality20: I mostly wonder how reviewers will handle this. Are they going to review the first content as representative of the whole game, or each episode on its own? Or will they re-review the whole game at the end? I doubt review websites won't push a release day review at all, with all this "hunger" going on.

The only reason I could think of why they're doing this is because they don't want the game to be released in summer with less active gamers
