Hogwarts Legacy Confirmed For Nintendo Switch 2
The wizarding world will be joining the lineup for Nintendo's next console.
During today's Nintendo Switch 2 Direct presentation, Warner Bros. and Portkey Games announced a Nintendo Switch 2 port of Hogwarts Legacy, the open-world adventure set in the Harry Potter universe, which will launch with the console on June 5.
Game director Alan Tew from Avalanche Software appeared in a brief segment during the Switch 2 Nintendo Direct, where he confirmed that Hogwarts Legacy will have "enhanced graphics" and "seamless world transitions" on Nintendo Switch 2. The game will also use the Joy-Con 2's mouse controls, and while specific mechanics weren't mentioned, footage showed the player-character flying on a broomstick while the mouse controls were mentioned.
Hogwarts Legacy is one of many third-party games confirmed for the Switch 2's launch lineup. Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition, future installments of Madden NFL and EA Sports FC, Split Fiction, Street Fighter 6, and Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade were also confirmed during the presentation.
Nintendo announced multiple first-party games coming to Switch 2 as well, with Mario Kart World confirmed as a launch title for the console--including a bundle that includes Switch 2 and Mario Kart for a discounted price. Other first-party Nintendo games include Donkey Kong Bananza, and upgraded editions of both Legend Of Zelda games for the first Switch: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom.
Hogwarts Legacy is developed by Avalanche Software, a subsidiary of Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. The game has been embroiled in controversy due to transphobic remarks from Harry Potter author JK Rowling. Although she is not personally involved with its development, she stands to profit from its success. For more, read our in-depth article on how Rowling's comments have impacted the trans community.
