Hollow Knight Silksong Page Removed From Nintendo Store, Has Returned

The long-awaited sequel was briefly removed from Nintendo's eShop, but is still listed on other platforms.

Hollow Knight Silksong has since returned to the eShop. The mystery continues. Original story follows:

Silksong, the highly anticipated sequel to Hollow Knight that has the player take control of the mysterious Hornet, has been removed from Nintendo's eShop. While the game is still listed on the PlayStation Store, Xbox, Steam, and the Nintendo eShop in the EU, the circumstances of why it was removed from Nintendo's North American eShop is a mystery.

A strong theory is that it's being moved to a Switch 2 launch and not outright canceled. Just last month, developer Team Cherry assured fans that development was going smoothly and that the game would indeed be released at some point.

"Yes the game is real, progressing and will release," said Team Cherry marketing and publishing lead Matthew Griffin, in response to a fan asking about Hollow Knight: Silksong's development. Unfortunately, no other details were given. Since being announced six years ago, updates have been sparse and sporadic at best.

In fact, in 2022, Hollow Knight: Silksong won a "Most Anticipated Game" award from Unity. Team Cherry thanked the community for their support and said "It can't be too much longer, surely!" It won again last year but without any word from the developers.

Nintendo will be hosting a Nintendo Direct presentation on April 2 focusing on the Switch 2, so the game may make an appearance there.

The original didn't explode in popularity until it released on Switch. I remember this because I played it on day 1 on PC, and it was a very niche game back then. My theory is that when Team Cherry first announced Silksong, their plan was to launch it alongside the rumored "Switch Pro", to ride that Nintendo marketing wave. That console never happened, so they had to wait for Switch 2 instead.

They've had a lot of time to refine this game throughout the years. Because of that, I expect nothing short of a masterpiece. But only because I believe they can actually make that. If it was a studio with a bad track record, I would probably assume the worst.

At this point I don't know if I'll be alive when this game is released. It's been 6 years and this isn't a game that should take this long to make. There must be a lot of issues behind the scenes and it might be about money and who knows, maybe the direction of the game was wrong and the game had to start over many times during those six years.

They haven't been transparent at all about what's going on. Everyone was expecting this game to be the second coming of metrovania style games and maybe expectations had completely taken over these people's brains and they haven't been able to handle it.
