Homefront day-one sales hit 375,000

THQ responds to investor concern by announcing "robust" North American sales tally; online multiplayer server capacity increased.

Yesterday, the reviews came in for THQ's newest first-person shooter Homefront, and while the game's Metacritic average was technically positive, it wasn't positive enough to appease investors. Fearing the lukewarm critical response presaged a commercial failure, investors were bearish on THQ, resulting in a 21 percent crash in the publisher's stock price yesterday, slipping an additional 1.28 percent today to $4.63 a share.

All is not quiet on the Homefront.
All is not quiet on the Homefront.

After market close today, THQ moved to assuage investors' panic, making a rare announcement of first-day sales for Homefront. According to the publisher, Homefront sold approximately 375,000 units in North America within 24 hours of release. European and Asia Pacific sales figures were not included in the tally, as the game has not yet seen full release worldwide.

Calling this sales figure "robust," THQ also said that it would be increasing server capacity to accommodate demand for Homefront's multiplayer. As with a handful of other THQ titles, those who purchase new copies of Homefront gain full access to the game's online multiplayer component.

Secondhand users have access to every map and can spend as much time as they wish in Homefront's multiplayer modes. However, they won't be able to advance their characters any further than level five--out of a possible 75--unless they purchase an online pass for $10.

THQ, I see that you had to let a bunch of people go (which is sad), and your stocks fell a lot. I will not support a game with online pass, your company lost a lot of cred in my books

Im sorry this game is the worst game to come out is 2011 and there were probably 300000 sell backs the next day so THQ better hope that the used games sell a lot of multi player passes, but if people try the game first that won't happen. I actually want to thank THQ and KAOS becuase, after this steaming pile of monkey cr@p game I will never buy a fps again, I will just rent them. I don't really play multiplayer either so I could care less about having to buy a multiplayer pass.

I first saw an advert in Florida in December. It was advertising the "Collectors Edition" which included a shotgun. I was like, "NO FREAKING WAY! A REAL SHOTGUN!". After a few minutes on the internet, it said it was just on the online shotgun that is special, for some reason. At first, when i thought they sold weaponry, i said to myself, "Man. This game must either be extremely budget, or the next new thing", which is... sort of what everyone got.

As soon as I see that Kaos is involved I know I wont be buying it. Not after getting stabbed in the back with Frontlines:fuel of war. Actually from the video, the drones seem like they just took them straight out of Frontlines, the caterpillar railgun drone, the helicopter drone with rockets. They should give this away for free to those of us who bought that pile of crap called Frontlines.

are like 99% of the comments from people that haven't even played the game? I would say the multi player-plays like battlefield, and the multi-player is actually really refreshing compared to camp of duty.

At 375000 units at approx $60 each means about 22 million dollars. That is not bad for one day sales in one region. The shareholders are idiots. These are not blue chip shares guaranteed to go up. Games companies are like commodities like oil and gd they are volatile and subject to the Market. Also with crysis 2 releasing in the same month people will prioritise

Concept of the game was good (Reminds me of the movie Red Dawn). The execution was ok at best. The graphics were ok (char modes don't blend well with scenery. Game play requires tweaks. Controls are stiff. Multi-player mode seems half-baked. Overall the score the critics are giving it are dead on.

They're surprised? This game is a shamefull CoD clone and people know it. Until developers better CoD and do something new with their shooters, people aren't going to touch their wallets.

@mtait01 I am agree with you. FPS games has nothing to do more only need good story, guns and multiplayer. But in Third person you have to work on new tactics, style everything different if you gonna working on a new game. Thats why I like Third peson shooter like mafia, Gears of war.

online pass for $10? Who are they kidding? They "presume" their title is going to be strong enough to warrant purchasing an online pass to play in a market saturated with superb titles......THQ FAIL.

@ ronnet Yes, but a few years ago, you didn't have to wonder if co-op would be available, it was automatic. I don't need all of my games to be 30 hour epics, but I would like to be able to play certain types of games for longer than a day without having to go online to do it.

Glad to hear it did alright. I had a friend of mine call it a contender of GOTY, despite what some of the reviews that have been released have said, so it can't be all that average.

see people? when you keep buying mediocre, overhyped pieces of crap like this they keep shoveling them out. make sure you read various reviews across the web about this game before you go out and fork over $60+ for it.

I hate entering codes for online access. i purchase games new, but overall the practice is EXTREMELY annoying to enter in those codes. Maybe they shouldn't punish new purchasers because of concern for resold copies.

wow... 375,000 copies sold.... let me get my shovel to bury cod... /sarcasm I highly doubt it will sell many more. All of the fanboys who purchased this on day one are all eating their words along with their hats for sticking by such a sub-par release. This online pass thing is pathetic too. It doesn't stop people buying the game pre-owned. It stops them from playing the "multiplayer component". It amuses me how it's now referred to as a component. Slapping point-filled restrictions on gamers who didn't help getting the 375,000 higher. I'm curious, is there a premium kit unlock thing on the xbox live marketplace for Homefront? I'm sure if it isn't there yet, it will be.

I actually enjoy this game and am glad I bought it. Sure its not the most polished experience, but the story is still engrossing and the multiplayer is hectic fun. I would recommend picking it up for those who were excited, but turned off by reviews. Just wait for a price drop, perhaps.

I totally agree with THIRTYSIXBLACK. THQ is in the same category as Capcom who also are also not able to make a game without some annoyance attached to it (besides street fighters maybe). They have never made a game thats recieved a 9 or higher rating.

I was hyped for Homefront but after seeing gameplay footage along with user and critic reviews, I wont be picking it up. Its just one of those things, It was so hyped that you expect it to be this great game but it fails to live up to your expectations.

Bet they're regretting that online pass nonsense massively - it's put a fair chunk of people off. I can't see Homefront MP lasting that long but with second hand sales it could have lasted a bit longer.

@Sony_Loyalist Lol, would you buy it if you get a free game (Metro 2033) and a TF2 hat? That was the deal on steam and I'm glad I went with it. It was only $50 for the PC version. I still get to play an extra game that costs $40 and Homefront all for $50
