Horror Sequel Saw 8 Being Developed - Report

The Saw series stands as one of the most profitable horror franchises ever made--the seven movies made between 2004 and 2010 grossed more than $870 million worldwide, all made on extremely modest budgets. It has now been reported that an eighth film in the series is being developed.

According to the Tracking Board, new writers have been hired by producers at Lionsgate to write the film, which is currently titled Saw: Legacy. Josh Stolberg and Pete Goldfinger previously penned 2010's Piranha 3D, as well as its sequel Piranha 3DD.

Saw: Legacy will also see the return of the series' creators, James Wan and Leigh Whannell, who will serve as executive producers. Wan has since become one of Hollywood's hottest directors, following the success Furious 7 and The Conjuring. He is to direct 2018's Aquaman for DC.

It is unknown whether Tobin Bell, who plays psychotic, trap-setting villain Jigsaw, will return for the new movie.

The original Saw was released in 2004. It was a huge success, earning more than $103 million worldwide from a budget of just $1.3 million.
