How Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare Changed After Its Two Betas

Infinity Ward is making a number of changes.

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare developer Infinity Ward has outlined the changes it's making to the game following the game's two multiplayer betas earlier this month.

In a lengthy post on Reddit titled "What We Learned from the Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare Beta," Infinity Ward talked about changes to weapons, modes, and more. In terms of weapons, the consistency of shotgun damage has been increased, while shotgun damage at longer range has also been increased.

Snipers are changed as well, as the game has been updated to have "more flinch" when snipers are shot. Additionally, sniper weapons no longer have aim assist until the optic "fully reaches the player's eye."

Outside of weapons changes, health regeneration time has been reduced. As for matchmaking tweaks, Infinity Ward said its "potential player evaluation" was "too strict," leading to longer waits for matches. The developer already addressed this in the beta, "leading to shorter matching times."

No Caption Provided

Additionally, the developer has fixed a geolocation problem that caused some players to be categorized as being in a region where they weren't. Another thing that got fixed in the beta was a problem where queueing into a join-in-progress match was taking too long.

You can see all the Infinite Warfare beta changes below.

Infinite Warfare launches on November 4 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. A remastered version of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare also launches that day, but the only way to get it is to buy one of the premium versions of Infinite Warfare, which start at $80.

Infinite Warfare Multiplayer Changes:

Via DualShockers

WEAPONS

We received a ton of great data from the Beta, allowing us to take a hard look at all of the guns and we will make changes as needed. Here are some of the immediate tweaks we will be implementing.

• Shotguns

o Increased the consistency of shotgun damage

o Shotgun damage at longer range has been increased

o Slightly increased the one shot kill range.

o Both the Reaver and Banshee have received a slight bonus to their 1 trigger pull kill range

Snipers

o Bullet spread at the hip no longer gets smaller as the player ADS’s. Once the scope reaches the player’s eye, the bullet spread goes instantly to zero.

o Sniper aim assist was reduced slightly for the KBS Longbow and the other bolt action snipers. Our turn rate while Aimed Down Sights is still slowed to help with precision aiming.

o Sniper-class weapons no longer have any Aim Assist until the optic fully reaches the player’s eye.

o For the ELO and Scout optics on snipers, the idle sway while ADS has been increased along with the player’s view bounce when moving. Because these optics are less zoomed in, the view bounce and the sway are felt less. These changes are to promote more stationary aiming and firing with these optics.

o The Tracking Chip optic’s visuals have been improved

o Reduced bonus of the Quickdraw attachment on snipers

o Updated snipers to have more flinch when getting shot.

Launchers

o The Howitzer Grenade launcher can now be fired from the hip instead of requiring full ADS

* • SMGs*

o The RPR Evo epic variant (Ripper) has had a tuning pass to increase recoil given its bonus fire rate

PERKS & RIG TRAITS

• Marksman – We fixed a bug where, in addition to reducing flinch, it was also reducing recoil. This would then stack with Gun Perks and the Foregrip Attachment. This bonus reduction has been removed.

• Momentum – Fixed issues with speed not being retained

• Marked Target – The temporary red marker on the victim has been toned down

HEALTH REGEN AND SPAWNING

• Health Regen time has been reduced

• Infusion bonus reduced

• Continuing to refine spawn system on beta maps, will assess remaining launch maps in live environment

ECONOMY

• Increased salvage gain in mission teams.

• Changed currency value in supply drops.

• Increased drop rate of keys in round-based modes.

SCORESTREAKS AND RIGS

• AP-3X

o Increased health, bullet damage, and weapon accuracy up close to help with target acquisition

• RC-8

o Increased health, increased weapon accuracy to help with target acquisition, slight increase in fire rate, and slight damage increase on splash damage

• T.H.O.R

o Increased speed of tracking rockets

o Increase damage of both tracking and straight fire rockets

• Bombardment

o Slight decrease in both time to the initial drop and the time between each subsequent drop

o Updated area damage to be consistent inner to outer

Rigs

o Refining payload balance

o Slight tweaks to gameplay balance across rigs

MODES

• Defender: When carrying the Drone, the score-per-second bonus has been bumped from 5 score per second to 10 score per second. Scorestreak carrier bonus is unaffected.

• Gun Game: Now features all classic weapons. In future updates, weapons with alternate functions will retain their state upon spawn.

• Domination: When you step off a flag, the current capture bar progress starts to decay. The rate of this decay has been halved from the Beta. This allows players to hop off a flag to defend it and then get back on the flag with less progress loss

MATCHMAKING

• Potential player evaluation was too strict. We were doing some very thorough testing of your connection to other players before placing you in a lobby with those players. This turned out to be a bit too thorough, and eventually was relaxed, leading to shorter matching times.

• Incorrect geographic categorization. There was an issue in our geolocation system which was causing some players to be incorrectly categorized. This was also resolved during the beta, improving matchmaking times.

• Dead lobby cleanup. The process which cleans up unused or dead lobby information from our back end was taking too long. This was causing a number of slowdowns when searching for a match.

• The matchmaker was always quite good at generating new lobbies, but one thing we noticed was that queueing into a join in progress situation was taking much longer. This was due to some issues in the way we track information about the lobbies that are currently playing a match. These issues were also addressed during the beta, and sped up the join in progress case immensely.

TTK (TIME TO KILL / ENGAGEMENT)

• We know a lot of you had different experiences with TTK during the Beta. With the above adjustments to dedicated servers, matchmaking, and weapon tuning, we think you’ll find that the TTK will be more balanced at launch, both on the attacking and receiving end. We’ll continue to monitor and balance throughout the year as need and would love your feedback in the process.

• We’re always looking at TTK and will continue to balance and monitor

DEDICATED SERVERS

• One of the major infrastructure changes we made this project was how dedicated server allocations work. We're using a new load balancing system on the servers themselves, as well as pretty heavily changed how the game chooses a datacenter to use, and requests a dedicated server from that datacenter.

• At the start of the Beta, you may have noticed some host migrations and some poorer quality matches. We discovered some issues where the new system was dropping our dedicated server utilization numbers way below target. After some tweaks and fixes we were able dramatically improve our dedicated server utilization for the second weekend and beyond.

As long as they are using dedicated servers with no lag, i don't have any issues to play this title. I just don't want another Call of Host Migration.

Even though the game has a "Space" "futuristic" setting, the maps from the beta didn't feel it. It seems even Activision/IW don't know what they are creating anymore.

it was OK......i found the graphics to be kinda ....OK. on the ps4 nothing that earth shattering. the game play was OK but honestly nothing we havent seen before. basically pick your load out run around shoot people. You can tell vs battlefeild how limiting it feels though with battlefeild you get these large big multi-front enivorments, with call of duty its just more limited smaller stuff. Its not really a must buy for me. plus for something thats supposed to take place "in space" was hoping the beta would have shown some of that. other then a few maps that could have been taken place on earth if not for some "spacey" stuff added in the background to them. heck i almost didnt even notice.

Haven't purchased a CoD in 7 years now, and I don't see that changing anytime soon. There is nothing unique about the games anymore, the gameplay looks the same and it was so boring repetitive the last time I played (MW3). I just hope people on the fence opt on not purchasing this crap because Activision has once again found more bs ways to get money from its customers. If we already have microtransactions, dlc, and now an entire game locked behind a paywall then its time the fans start protesting with their wallets for once. Its gotten out of hand and other publishers are starting to adopt the same price models.

Played beta, is a COD. It feels less and less like COD with every new version. COD take note of BF1, you need to go back to your roots.

I literally played the beta for 10 mins until I realized it was a worse version of BO3. That was enough for me.

my last call of duty was the original black ops.

the later ones are a mess of dull maps and increasingly silly add-ons and gimmicks.

Cod has long been destroyed, this game is simply the final nail in the coffin.

Battlefield 1 :) Not a massive fan of their series but this year especially they've completely drowned activision in their own excrement, and Activision can't do a thing about it.

The only COD game i'd buy this year is MW Remastered when it actually releases as a standalone game.

Next cod or the one after (because they're dumb) will go back to WW1 or 2, or another conflict from history, the flying and the ridiculousness has to sink into their heads at some point that it's terrible.

Boycotted, I wouldn't even torrent this tripe.

@dladz: "Long been destroyed" Yet it averages 25+ million sales yearly (BO3 surpassed AW's 21m awhile back so clearly people prefer thrust jumping over dashing around at least) and will continue to do so. Battlefield 1 is projected to sell around 15m, and projections aren't even needed to know CoD is selling a MINIMUM of 20 million even after all the dislikes on the trailer and whatnot. Can't wait for IW and MW Remastered, this friday is gonna be LIT!

@dladz: i have nothing against you disliking the game because everyone has a right to like or dislike what they want, but people have been saying "COD has been destroyed" since modern warfare 2, but its still going strong.

Another change after beta: "We've decided our game captures the grit and feel of a WW2 era game, so imagine you're playing this kind of game when you are in space shooting robots."

Hahaha mark my words: the kiddies will "hate" this game but the only reason will be because they can't "no-scope" like in previous CODs. I can't wait to taste all their salty tears!

I am looking forward to another game by Infinity Ward even if not headed by west and zampella, i just hope they have more strategy in multiplayer then they have in the last few years.

Ghost was decent, but they had weapons but their pay to win dlc was fail.

BOps, was joke with fast spawning of opponents within a few feet of each other, nothing but kill, die, spawn -- repeat.

AW- more of the same, with little strategy, little room for teams to work together, all in the name of faster, faster, faster.

The last great COD was Modern Warfare 3, which had maps that allowed pushers to rush, range to control zones and teams to implement strategies and build on success. I understand there is a demand for twitch MP like Unreal was back in the day, but what made the COD MW series so great was the emphasis on realism, cover, strategy and team work. Not kill, die, spawn, repeat.

@millionsedge: i haven't bought cod since black ops 1, but i preordered this game after i tried the beta. same reason i dont buy madden every year (cause its pretty much the same game with minor changes), i dont get cod every year. however, i do buy and play both games when i feel like enough time has passed.

so in my opinion, if its been a few cod's since you last got one, go for it. its a fun game and similar to all previous cod games. yes, its no longer boots on the ground modern warfare, but in the end, its still a very much cod game.

@millionsedge: I stopped playing the beta when I realized weapons had perks like in the division and destiny. Pulled a purple sniper rifle for a box that gave me infinite breathe hold time. Also saw a orange smg that healed you back for damage done. This is was suppose to be cod not some rpg wanna be, feel the pvp will be based on what weapon you pulled instead of how good you really at the game.

I played on the first day and It's very good, but these improvements are seriously making it look like a better game.

The weapons all felt smooth and the 3D movement was done really well, and at its core it still feels like a Cod game

they tune down the damage too much, i remember when it was 3 bullet hits = death for every weapon that's not a sniper rife or a shotgun and the beta it took at lease 6 bullet hit for it, shotgun took two pump action blast to kill them in close and close-mid range, sniper on the other hand still seems the same.

@burnignitch: i guess, it make the shotgun kind of weak, in the beta, it took me like 3 to 4 shot of a pump action shotgun to kill them if lucky on the same distance on my previous post against those whose using a non-shotgun.

Wouldn't touch this game with a 10 foot pole. Just the fact that they force you to buy it in order to play a remastered CoD4, a game which was developed by the Titanfall 2 team(the original Infinity Ward) tells you all you need to know about Activision.

Too many good games being put out by good companies to support this steaming pos.

AND......COD is still a piece of crap - just like COD-Ghost was a piece of crap (had to release it at the next gen ps4 launch, didn't you???).

WARNING: DO NOT BUY COD - INFINITE WARFARE!!!

SUGGESTION: BUY TITANFALL 2!!! (I'M PLAYING IT NOW AND ITS A BLAST, VERY REFINED, NO BUGS, AN AWESOME SHOOTER (CAMPAIGN & MULTIPLAYER PUTTING TO SHAME COD).

SUGGESTION: BUY BATTLEFIELD 1 (ONE HELL OF A GAME!!!)

FINALLY! SOME "NEXT GEN" CONSOLE GAMES (3 YEARS LATER) WORTHY OF THE TECHNICAL CAPACITY OF THE CONSOLE ITSELF!!!!

@cygnus455: It always takes 3+ years into a console generation before developers start to really draw the upper limits of power from a consoles architecture. And there are still plenty more years of power left to go.

That has been true since Atari - simple history. Many people new to a generation feel amazed by a consoles power and continue to feel that was the largest leap, then those people go onto feel the next gen is under powered. But after you have watched several generations of gaming come and go, a pattern becomes clear.

Personally, I'm done with Call of Duty. Black Ops 3 was the first one I bought since the original Black Ops, and that's enough for me. The whole "Microtransaction" scam really bothers me that all games are doing now. COD is one of the worst because they try to tempt people with new weapons for multiplayer by saying they are in these "air drops" then you buy 20.00 worth thinking you will get some new weapons and you get are weapon skins and other trash like character outfits or emblems? Gears 4, GTA, Halo, Battlefield all do this same Microtransaction garbage. They want you to spend money and then get "random" things instead of allowing you to buy the stuff that you actually want...

@wrestlingfann41: Black Ops 3 did mictrotransactions terribly, but AW did it rather well, as in AW you will still get the stuff without paying

Halo 5 did microtransactions the right way. They were only a bonus feature and mostly cosmetic and all DLC was free because of the microtransactions
