How Stranger Things Reportedly Stacks Up Against Netflix's Other Shows
Millions of people are watching.
Stranger Things, the new sci-fi show from Netflix, is proving to be a big hit, according to new ratings figures. Netflix doesn't release viewership figures, but Symphony Advanced Media provided numbers to Variety that show Stranger Things is one of Netflix's most-watched programs ever.
Within its first 35 days, the '80s-set thriller had 14.07 million adults aged 18-49. The only Netflix programs that paced ahead that were the Fuller House Season 1 and Season 4 of Orange is the New Black, though numbers for those shows were not provided. All eight episodes of Stranger Things debuted on Netflix in July.

The show also beat out other Netflix original programs over the same period of time, including Making a Murderer (13.35 million), Daredevil Season 2 (13.35 million), Jessica Jones (6.26 million), Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt Season 2 (6.08 million), The Ranch (6.01 million), House of Cards Season 4 (5.67 million), and F is for Family (4.81 million).
As Variety mentions, Netflix executives have time and again argued that, because Netflix is an ad-free subscription service, ratings are somewhat irrelevant to its business model. Symphony gets its figures for Netflix, as well as Hulu and Amazon, using audio-code recognition software and a panel of more than 15,000 people. Since they don't come from Netflix, they are not necessarily accurate.
Stranger Things is also a hit with critics. The show's first season stands at a 76 rating on GameSpot sister site Metacritic, while it has an impressive 95 percent "fresh" rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
The show is set in 1983 Indiana and follows the story of a disappearance of a young boy, as well as a girl with mysterious powers, and a government agency that may not be all it seems. A second season has not yet been confirmed, but creators Matt and Ross Duffer have already spoken about their ambition to make a follow-up season "darker and weirder."
12-year-old Millie Bobby Brown plays Stranger Things lead Eleven, while other child actors round out the group of teenagers who make up the show's main cast. Wynona Ryder, Matthew Modine, and David Harbour also star in the program.
In other news about Stranger Things, Funko has revealed a mock-up Eleven Pop Vinyl figure and it is perfect.
