Hulu's Helstrom Is Cancelled, An Era Of Marvel TV Ends

Marvel's Hulu series Helstrom has been cancelled after one season. The supernatural-themed show premiered in October and ran for 10 episodes but will not be renewed for further seasons.

As reported by Variety, the cancellation of Helstrom marks the end for live-action Marvel shows appearing on networks and platforms other than Disney+. As with shows such as Agents of SHIELD, Cloak & Dagger, The Runaways, and the various Marvel Netflix shows, Helstrom was produced by Jeph Loeb as part of Marvel Television. These series have been gradually cancelled over the past couple of years, while Marvel Television itself closed down earlier this year.

The cancellation of Helstrom isn't very surprising, and the other only reason it was released at all was because it was already in production when Marvel Television was phased out. The show starred Tom Austen and Sydney Lemon as supernatural powered siblings who are the children of a serial killer. It was first announced in May 2019, alongside a new version of Ghost Rider for Hulu. However, Ghost Rider was cancelled in September 2019 before it started shooting.

While we're unlikely to see other live-action Marvel shows on other networks any time soon, there are plenty of series heading to Disney+ over the next few years. The first Disney+ MCU show is WandaVision, and that arrives next month. That will be followed by Falcon and The Winter Soldier in March, and Loki in May.
