Strategy Informer is reporting Ubisoft has brought forward the release of the PC version of I Am Alive.

I Am Alive is arriving a week early on PCs.
I Am Alive is arriving a week early on PCs.

According to the report, the postapocalyptic action game will be released on PCs a week early, launching September 6 on via Ubisoft's digital store, on Steam, and other digital retailers for $15.

I Am Alive was released for Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network earlier this year, receiving a warm critical reception.

The PC version of the game boasts two modes not available on the console counterparts: Easy mode, which allows for infinite retries and a smoother introduction to the game, and Replay, which allows users to play levels again.

Those who preorder I Am Alive for the PC through the UbiShop will score a free copy of Outerlight's 2010 first-person shooter Bloody Good Time.

I Am Alive tells the story of an everyman searching for his wife and daughter after a mysterious but cataclysmic event. This man returns to his hometown, Haventon, a year later to find the city in ruins, with its inhabitants taking necessary actions to survive.

Earlier this week, Ubisoft announced it will be ditching its old DRM system after listening to user feedback.

Mysterious cataclysmic event, surviving everyman... nothing more than a "The Road" rip-off. They just had to name it "The Road - The Game"! :-)

@YanniBG

If you saw "The Road" and played "I am Alive" you'd know that your comment is isn't exactly true.

The Road is probably one of the bleakest, no hope left, everything is simply dead, movie. It's an awesome movie, simply due to the fact that they kept true to the hopelessness, and how utterly dark, atmospheric, somber, and void the end of the world would be.

I am Alive still has hope, kind of like Fallout 3 without the mutants... Still pockets of society trying to stay alive. Very good, underrated game.

@mindpurge @YanniBG Good to mention that. Not every survival necessarily needs mutated enemies and a whopping ultra violence. I am alive tries to be a survival in a realistic way and that makes the game intriguing. To tell the truth, I'm sick of the same repetitive games. And the guy above is not right, im alive do have some violence there even if it is avoidable in contrast with that road movie. We need more games like this what... freestyle maybe? Im heading to the store in a while to see that.

@pinkydre You rarely get to see a PC exclusive these days, I remeber crysis 1 used to be PC exclusive, but the sales were so great, the devs decided to port it to x360 and ps3, but they removed some things that made the game unique, like downgrading the graphics, so the consoles can handle and changing the nanosuit controls to the ones that were in crysis 2, I personally tried out the game on my PS3, and the PC version was way better...and btw, I prefer having all the nanosuit controls separated, it was easier, for a mouse and keyboard

@pinkydre That was a long time ago pinkydre. Also, considering that in many cases over 90% of sales are on consoles, can't really blame them, that's where most people are playing, for whatever reason and that's where things like online multiplayer for many major shooter franchises such as Halo and COD are. The PC always has the niche "elite" crowd for things such as Age of Empires strategy and Counter Strike in the shooter category but seriously, playing out of a standard unit working out of the box in your living room is an experience most PC users do not have and do not bother setting up. I've set up my PC and console to my TV so both are great experiences but how many people even have a good PC to play with?

@Fursnake I'll do that too, but seriously those who can support it now please do! It's an awesome game and really deserves support at launch so as to get more of these titles PC side faster especially from Ubisoft. In all fairness Ubisoft at least brings decent PC ports of most of their games, sure some issues but overall it works well with a decent gaming PC and you get to play the game in true HD!

@Fursnake

I would support it to bring more Ubisoft video games to PC, but not I Am Alive itself. It was a huge disappointment how this huge video game that debuted at E3 2008 became this indie video game.

@interrasteral7 @Fursnake I was more suprised that after the dearth of news about the title between 2008 and 2010 it didn't get cancelled, in fact it's a very interesting and different game from many other AAA titles. It turned out pretty well considering its troubled development.

Didn't they say they weren't going to release it on PC? I remember people asking this and they said the console offered a better experience and they would not port it. Guess they changed there mind.

Well if anyone is wondering if it's worth $15, i can safely say yes it is.

It feels like a very interesting old school pc game if you ask me.

Controls were not as bad either, considering how it is still a console port.

I would not pay more than $15 though, but thats just me.

F**K YOU Ubisoft...now who has the last laugh huh? A$$holes!! I can't believe at first they went on about the piracy rate being so high on PCs and then saying this game won't come out on the PC platform at all due to that very reason. Now you're trying to sell it because it's already out in the torrent world?? Please...go f**k yourself! EVERYONE is going to pirate your games from now on. PC, Xbox, PS3, Mobile...every platform, every game!

Wow. PC Gamers are fickle. Are you really going to cheat yourself out of a good experience because someone made a generalization? Ubisoft isn't going to be hurt by you not spending $15. I understand you might feel offended, although I'm primarily a PC gamer and didn't get offended because there is a ridiculous amount of piracy on the PC, but some of you are acting like Ubisoft killed your puppy.

The game is really good. It's only $15 because it's only 4-6 hours long.

That why I love pirates:

1) They make games available earlier than publishers

2) They cut the hell out the draconian DRM that obstructs gameplay

3) They don't force you to pay if the game is crap

If there was a way to pay them for the games I liked - I would do so.

I'm always happy to buy the game from the published, but when they have draconian DRM, I usually just pass.

Sadly, this is true. Pirates usually get the best version of the game. I refuse to pirate myself, but in my experience with seeing pirated copies, they always work better.

@pathosfire Piracy in these days is no longer about how and why, but when it will happen, actually here in Brazil, about a a month or two before GeoHotz release the jailbreak for PS3, there were people here selling unblockers for PS3 and running pirate games on PS3, i saw that with my own eyes.

The salesman was selling 10 PS3 games for 20$ Real(about 12$ Dollars), and was trying to make buy, I gotta way from there really fast, I like to pay the original

The game ran fine for me even on my secondary rig which has a core2duo e8200, 2gb ram and an nvidia 9800gtx i also don't like the way Ubisoft had been treating PC folks but i did not found any problem, Ghost Recon Future Soldier on the other hand was a total disaster.

I can assure you that the PC version can lag on an uber gaming rig even with MSAA and AA turned way down. This is on the same rig that can pay any game with maxed out video settings and never drops below 30 fps. Even with the video settings maxed out, this game looks like an old 360 game before developers knew how to optimize code for the consoles.

Though the game is difficult and fairly fun to play; it utilizes some interesting concepts and makes them work well together. Personally, I’ll take a somewhat unique and enjoyable gaming experience over graphics any day.

Though Ubisoft’s comment about 95% of PC gamers being pirates really pissed me off, and then to announce this game on PC the very next day was really ironic, or ballsy. Or possibly stupid.

@moisan4 the game engine it uses is an old unreal engine 2.5, so what do you expect on an old engine in the graphics compartment.
