While I was at GDC I saw a bunch of wonderful indie games at the IGF booth. I got to try most of the games that I was looking forward to, but there was this one title that slipped by me due to the huge crowd around it. Tag: The Power of Paint wowed me as I stared at the computer screen along side the group of people. Tag is a FREE, first-person painter puzzle platformer, which focuses on the ability to change your environment with paint. The game was created by a team of students from DigiPen Institute of Technology, and has recently won the Independent Games Festival Best Student Game.

The gameplay is simple yet complex as you're given three colors of paint, green, red and blue, each of which has their own special ability. The green paint gives you the ability to bounce up in the air where ever you place it. The red paint speeds you along your way whenever you need that extra boost to get you by. Finally, the blue paint creates a sticky mixture allowing you to walk on any surface that the blue paint is on.

The level design through out reminded me of a mixture between portal, and mirrors edge taking the best of both worlds and throwing in a bit of paint.

Having beaten the game already, I must say, for an indie game, the amount of levels, puzzles, and unique gameplay make this game worth buying. The best part about Tag is that it's absolutely FREE! Download this game here and many other indie games at the GameSpot Downloads page!
