Infinite Space opens up March 16

Sega and PlatinumGames' customization heavy sci-fi RPG heads stateside next month.

With the Nintendo Q1 Media Summit going down in San Francisco today, release dates for games coming to the publisher's platforms have been in no short supply. Sega also contributed to the festivities today, announcing that PlatinumGames' Infinite Space will launch for the DS on March 16.

Space is infinite; this cockpit is not.
Space is infinite; this cockpit is not.

Infinite Space can be counted among the quartet of games announced as part of Sega's publishing arrangement with PlatinumGames, the others being Bayonetta, Madworld, and the recently titled Vanquish. Initially operating under the moniker Infinite Line, the sci-fi role-playing game was codeveloped by Japan-based Nude Maker and directed by that studio's president, Hifumi Kouno.

As for game specifics, Infinite Line sees players embarking upon a journey as captain of a spaceship. With over 200 ship designs and a wide variety of ship parts to choose from, players will need to apply some thought, both when building their vehicle and when choosing the appropriate crew to man it.

Infinite Space has already seen a measure of success in Japan, selling nearly 40,000 units during its opening week last June. For more on the game, check out GameSpot's interview with Nude Maker's Kouno and the former Clover Studio CEO and producer at Platinum Games, Atsushi Inaba.

Yawn. Almost fell asleep half way through the video. But I suppose it's a good game for sci-fi fans.

Hmm, this looks very cool indeed. Why haven't I heard of the game before? Shenanigans!

I'll be saving my pennies for this game as well as Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey, Dragon Quest IX, Dragon Quest VI, and Golden Sun DS.

This looks really good! I wish it could also come out on the PSP! Because it seems so epic for such a small screen i.e. DS! Oh well I'd still love to give it a try just the same!

I have been looking forward to this title for several months now! Yes, I will be buying and playing a lot of FFXIII...but I am not going to let this possible March gem sneak by! And neither should any of you! The DS already has an amazing RPG lineup, and Infinite Space could very well end up near the top of that list!

had no idea about this game until now, think this might be worth picking up, haven't really touched a space combat game since Homeworld 2, which I loved, hopefully this can be just as fun, feel even better knowing Platinum Games made this as I loved Bayonetta, I'm really cheering for these ex-Capcom game developers finally getting to make the games they want to

I don't play handhelds, but Platinum Games have not disappointed yet and I doubt this cool looking RPG will either. GO PLATINUM GAMES, YO!

I hope this game isn't overlooked, although I have a feeling it will be with FFXIII, GoWIII and two Pokemon remakes being launched in the same month. Bad move on your part, Sega especially with Yakuza 3 and Resonance of Fate releasing too.

If this collaboration can produce more good games like MadWorld and Bayonetta, then I'm eager to check out any other titles that they release.
