Infinity Blade II revealed with iPhone 4S

Epic Games and Chair Entertainment use iOS sequel to show off new Apple hardware; game debuts on iTunes December 1.

At a much-heralded press event at its Cupertino, California, campus today, Apple unveiled its newest gadget, the iPhone 4S. To show off the new hardware in action, Apple debuted the latest project from Epic Games and subsidiary Chair Entertainment, Infinity Blade II.

Even more infinite than before!
Even more infinite than before!

Set for release December 1 exclusively on Apple's iOS devices, Infinity Blade II will allow for cloud saving of games and profiles. The game will also feature new environments, enemies, treasures, weapon classes, and online features. In the Clash Mob mode, players will take on "massively social challenges" to earn additional weapons and items.

A sequel isn't the only Infinity Blade expansion in the works. Chair today released Infinity Blade: Awakening, a novella fleshing out the game's world penned by best-selling author Brandon Sanderson (The Wheel of Time, The Way of Kings).

@Hvac0120 I respect your opinion but in my opinion, a device's primary function as well as the types of media it recieves defines what it is. The primary function of a phone is to be a phone, thus it is not a console. Even though handhelds can play MP3s now, you don't pick up a handheld console and say "I bought a new MP3 player." Just because it do something doesn't mean that is what it is. So to me, the iPhone does not fit the niche of what a true game platform is. The iPhone isn't a device you buy where you can just stick a game in it and play it. It comes with contracts which handhelds do not (unless you want a 3G Vita). You can't walk into a store and buy a physical media representation of a game for an iPhone. You can't buy an iPhone and expect to be able to use it for at least 2 years because every time you blink there's yet another iPhone. You don't get that issue with handhelds as they only come out about every two years with updates and are usually just minor cosmetic improvements. I can buy a PS Vita and expect to not see PS Vita SX 6 months later. As for the touch controls of Dead Space, some folks just aren't comfortable with using their thumbs to block such a large portion of a screen nor with what they see as generally unresponsive. Physical buttons are just better, or what the DS has done for touch-controlled games as even though the screen on an old DS is inferior in picture quality it is far more precise. On the Vita there's no real need for touch controls because there are actual buttons and sticks and triggers. It is what it is, the current generation handhelds can call themselves real consoles, the iPhone cannot.

I would like to get this but if I can't play it on my current iPod Touch then that's a downer and I'm hell not buying an iPhone 4S unless they make a touch version with the same tech behind it (which I think it will be inevitable).

I disagree. I think that the iPod could be considered a console and is in competition (although maybe not directly because there are intersects) with the 3DS and PSP/Vita. It isn't a traditional handheld console, but it offers you everything the others offer. It has GameCenter for socializing, competing, and sharing. It has a long list of games from indie developers to big publishers. Et Cetera... I'm on the last boss of Dead Space on iPhone. This game is in every way a "game for real gamer's." I played the original Dead Space on PS3 and the iPhone game incorporates nearly everything that is included in the full console version. The difference is that the missions are more bite-sized and it's all touch controlled (which was excellently implemented btw). You are disillusioned to think that smartphones and iPods aren't consoles. They are just a new breed. It's not just the media pushing them as consoles, it's the millions of consumers who buy the devices and use them as gaming machines; proven by the (mil|bil)lions of games sold on iOS. I would prefer to play a game on Vita or 3DS, but I'd also prefer to play on PS3 or Xbox 360 over those. That doesn't mean that the portables aren't consoles. They are just different ways to experience games. I don't think you completely understand the point of my blog post considering your arguments. iOS is completely a part of the gaming console world and has affected how and where we play our games now and into the future.

@Hvac0120 but see, the iPhone isn't a console. It's not and will never be no matter how hard the media or game outlets try to push it as one. It does not and never will have, to crib from a PSP commercial, "real games for real gamers." I think the iPhone is good for people that don't normally play games, but it is not at all a legitimate game platform. Because of this, while your blog is a shared sentiment of mine, it does not apply to a phone. @Draken_Domingo you realize I was simply being equal to the 3DS and Vita, right? And even with the 3DS's limitations at the moment, it is still superior to the iPhone. Phones are not consoles. I don't even own a 3DS but when I get the inevitable revision I'll enjoy my "remake" platform, while you can enjoy your wannabe "console" with inferior games.

Infinity Blade is a pretty neat game on iOS. I enjoy playing it, but I don't enjoy the long load time when you first launch it. I doubt I'll buy the sequel while I have my iPhone 4. By the time I upgrade (hopefully to next year's iPhone (5?)) IB2 will be old news and there will be better games to get, if not a 3rd entry in the series.

@Spacerac >Glasses-lee 3D >Superior Seriously, I really don't know that many people with a 3DS, and out of those that DO have one, don't even touch the 3D...iPhone is a phone that plays games on top of it, it's a completely bad comparison. Btw, enjoy your remake platform, I'll just be over here actually enjoying my games on a big screen thanks to my good ole N64

In this corner, you have Infinity Blade 1 and 2. In the superior corner, you have Uncharted Golden Abyss, Super Mario 3D Land, Gravity Rush, and Kid Icarus Uprising. In this corner, you have an expensive phone that will be replaced by a new model within the year that has no physical inputs. In the superior corner, you have a glasses-less 3D display and a rich OLED display capable of current gen graphics. It's obvious which corner to choose.

Infinity Blade really is a great game, so a sequel was never doubted. Looking forward to giving it a go.

Although Apple has a huge following, something tells me that the worsening global economy is playing a factor as to why Apple didn't proceed forward with the iPhone5. Whether they would like to admit it or not. Whatever, either way in a few months after the phone is out it will be inexpensive or free depending what nation you buy it in (as long as you agree to contract) like the 3GS.

@rockstar_88 I can't tell if u actually believe that or not so i'll brake it down for u, the S II has a bigger screen ( although i am not crazy about how big the freakin screens are getting, i'm a guy, i don't have a freakin purse to carry my phone, i hate to admit it but i'd rather have the better resolution of the 4S), faster 3G tech, a 2 MP front camera instead of the atrocious VGA on the iPhone, a faster processor and the usual extra stuff (radio, Flash, etc.). Oh, also as usual all that for a smaller price. Those are pretty much the differences. ;) PS. You're forgetting the HTC Sensation , it's not quite as good as the S II but still has a bigger screen and a faster processor than the 4S.

The iPhone 4S is a huge disappointment. Apple missed a lot of opportunities with this phone, especially the lack of high speed data support. Now people that buy this phone are stuck for two years on old high speed data tech while other companies are moving forward.

@D_Punisher08 it runs on all iphones other than the 2g and 3g. Iphone4 and 4s are hardware identical other than an upgraded camera and battery life ....

To upgrade my iphone for this game.... sure it'll be amazing but ....i dunno.....you cant just buy a $199 16 gb version and hit 2 birds with one stone and really call it an upgrade. you'll buy a $299 32 gb version bec it makes sense that way and then you'll buy the game..... and then you'd realize what a sucker I was for falling in this ploy!!! LOL

I thought this game had no story. And trust me, I have played through more than 10 generations--playthroughs.

I'm sure Chair and Epic are making decent money with Infinity Blade, but I wish they would just create a Shadow Complex sequel.
