Infinity Ward executive producer Mark Rubin today laid to rest a lingering rumor about the comparative resolutions for Call of Duty: Ghosts on Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

On Twitter, he confirmed that the game is native 720p on Xbox One (upscaled to 1080p), while the PS4 version is native 1080p.

"Hey, been on the road last couple weeks so haven't had a chance to update, but wanted to confirm that for Xbox One we're 1080p upscaled from 720p. And, we're native 1080p on PS4," Rubin said.

"We optimized each console to hit 60 FPS and the game looks great on both," he added. "Still on the road, but glad to see the great reception to Extinction. Can't wait for next week's launch."

Microsoft director of product planning Albert Penello said last week that Call of Duty: Ghosts on Xbox One "looks f'n amazing."

Call of Duty: Ghosts launches for Xbox 360, Playstation 3, PC, and Wii U next Tuesday, November 5. The Xbox One and PS4 versions will be available as launch titles later in the month.

Now, I can say, the game is not running at 720p on Xbone because the hardware is weak, its because Infinity Ward has the shittiest and laziest programers. Ghosts is having fps issues on Nvides Titan, these guys are pathetic. Treyarch does a much better job than the crap that is Infinity Ward. And PS4 also has fps issues with this game. And the game looks no better than Black Ops 2 at max. The PC specs were a lie.

Which console is better? Depends on what BETTER means to u. I'm not going to state facts as it seems most of u have ur own to go on. My PC trumps them both because of my current gaming pleasures. Not because of hardware and how sexy they look or because of how many 0s and 1s they crunch. Both systems come with tons of features that most of us wouldn't need. We could go for days about what my console means to me or u just look at the posts. But if your going to argue system capabilities than stick to a specific similar interest such as multi player. That interest must be something that u and the others your trying to get across find important. Before going into details with that person just take a moment to ask urself. Why do i need to convince the world why i prefer one thing over another? After all this is important to me who cares about whatever else has to be said. RIGHT!!! This topic is too broad to be picked apart in a comment section. You tell me.. If i cared about hardware and features soo much than i would consider myself to be a hardcore gamer who requires nothing short of perfection in whatever system i choose. If I considered myself to be a hardcore gamer I would have both systems and wouldn't have to consider which system i choose. If I do not consider myself to be a hardcore gamer than why do i care which system i have. I just want to play.

I'm going to end up buying both consoles eventually. But, all of the MS apologists in here doing a bunch of back-pedaling, down-playing, and obfuscating cracks me up. A few months ago when news leaked of the internal structure of both consoles I kept telling people the PS4 was going to be significantly more powerful, but lots of Xbox One fans (and no doubt a healthy % of paid MS shills) didn't want to listen to facts. While there is certainly a lot more to gaming than graphics, there's no doubt that if the situation were reversed there would be a ton of Xbox One fanatics crowing morning, noon & night. Instead, what we hear ad nauseum from these folks - including a fair % of the so-called gaming "media" - is that it's "not that big of a deal". The Xbox One is roughly 50% slower in shader performance & memory bandwidth. Objectively speaking, this is a very big deal that will play out more and more as next gen progresses. The differences between PS3/360 were *much* smaller...even in theory the PS3 was at most 10% "faster" but due to its complicated Cell architecture was a lot harder to code for. As a result, most multiplats were better on the 360 for 5-6 yrs and only the more recent multiplats over the past couple yrs began to show the PS3 as equal (or slightly better in games like Portal 2). This isn't going to be a problem on PS4 as both it and the Xbox One have nearly identical Wintel architectures built by AMD with slight differences which give the PS4 "at the metal" advantages the Xbox One cannot overcome.

As we are already seeing even with early launch titles, evidence points to the fact that the PS4 will run most games at 900p/1080p AND 60fps while the Xbone is going to have to down-rez to 720p to get 60fps and may end up being 720p/30fps in games with higher end textures. COD uses an old engine and doesn't look very good, barely "next gen" at all. If the Xbox One is having trouble already then this isn't a good sign.

In computer terms: the PS4 is roughly equivalent to a HD7850 and the Xbone is roughly equivalent to a HD7770 (some people prefer the 7870 vs. 7790 comparison, but the same rule applies). If you check out the benchmarks comparing these 2 GPUs there are HUGE frame-rate differences. One example: Skyrim on the 7850 achieves about 75-80fps at 1080p while it can only achieve 30-35 fps on the 7770. This is quite simply a fact. The laws of physics tend to be problematic for hardcore Xbox One fans/shills who don't want to face facts.

I'm still looking forward to the Xbox One for its exclusives. I simply wish more people were willing to admit they were wrong rather than pretending that it's "no big deal" when we all know that it will become a bigger deal over time as next-gen game engines mature and the PS4 is capable of rendering in-game graphics in the next 2-3 yrs that the Xbox One simply cannot match.

<< LINK REMOVED >> First of all, if you are going to throw out "facts", you need to give some reliable source. I find it hard to believe that Xbox One is "50%" slower than PS4 when you stated yourself that that both consoles have "nearly identical" hardware. Which is stated by numerous people and sources.

Also, if you read up just a little bit on what you are talking about you would know that there was a consious choice made by Microsoft to use a different processer that could make a lot more small calculations (than PS4's that makes big calculations at a slower rate) to help with Microsoft's cloud compute service: << LINK REMOVED >>. Therefore making Xbox One the choice for multiplayer.

Again, when you say "early launch titles" and are throwing around these "facts" there isn't anything to back it up. If we are going by hearsay, I would say that the PS4 controller was to look like this: << LINK REMOVED >>. Skyrim, as far as I know won't even come out for next generation (please provide a source) unless you are talking about "Online" in which case it is still a beta: << LINK REMOVED >>. In addition, that, I'm pretty sure, is an "Online" game, which means that Xbox One is the better choice again for reasons listed before.

Further, I would say that your last paragraph is indeed the exact opposite of what will happen. Due to Microsoft's constant release of updates, and huge amount of dedicated servers (also the cloud compute), and the fact that both consoles have almost the exact same hardware (with exceptions), Xbox will be the One to Xbone the PS4.

I wrote this in a hurry, so please ask me to elaborate if needed.

OK, I'll let you in on my super duper top-secret "source" that can prove what I'm saying is true: it's called "mathematics". ;)

I don't necessarily mean that to be entirely snarky, because the truth is that while this isn't rocket science...it DOES involve a tad bit of actual math, scientific method, and deductive reasoning. Predicting performance of last gen was much more complicated due to the fact that the 360/PS3 used wildly different architectures and SDKs/APIs. The PS3 was/is much more difficult to code for and wring out all of its potential. This isn't an issue with next gen since both use nearly identical BASE ARCHITECTURES which will both be relatively easy to code for.

However, we need to be careful to make an important distinction here: saying both consoles have the same underlying architecture is 100% true - and this is what makes predicting each console's performance potential much easier than last gen (since devs will have similar tools and similar base metal to code to). BUT, saying these consoles are "identical" is absolutely false. They are no more "identical" where it counts (shaders/bandwidth) than the aforementioned 7850 vs. 7770 GPUs are "identical". Put another way: if what you were saying is true then no one would bother spending ~$500 on a top-end GPU because a lowly $75-100 GPU would produce the same performance simply because it uses the "same architecture". Of course, we know this is false. Even though a 7850 is based on the same GPU generation, we know for a *fact* the 7850 produces much faster fps in every game. So, we need to be mindful that although both consoles use the same architecture this is not the same thing as saying they are "identically powerful".

As for the "power of the cloud", please don't be silly. Latency issues make any client side rendering improvements quite simply impossible. The "cloud" is nothing more than a fancy marketing name for *dedicated servers*. It is true these dedicated servers may make it nice and convenient for developers to bring some fun multiplayer capabilities to Xbox One games. But, any claims that the "cloud" will improve graphical performance are absolute bullshit and pure marketing FUD. Given the limitations of current internet bandwidth, there is no way the "cloud" can make up for weaker client side hardware.

You can, of course, choose to believe what you want to believe. Some people still believe in Santa Clause and the Tooth Fairy too. But, facts are facts. The GPUs in the PS4 and Xbox One have very similar specs to the 7850 and 7770, respectively. Both GPUs have been dissected and benchmarked by a thousand sources, so we know for a fact what the real world potential and limitations are of both GPUs inside next gen consoles. If you want to really educate yourself about what I'm telling you, there are plenty of benchmarks you can go read in order to learn. And ultimately you'll find that I speak the truth. There is simply no way the Xbox One can out-perform the PS4 on raw specs. It just isn't going to happen. And given the fact that they both use similar SDKs and will be roughly equally easy to code for, there is going to be no discernible way that coding can make up for the physical/real world gap. The 50% difference is real and based on hard data. Again, it's called math. ;)

This list is just an unbiased honest comparison between the two systems. I will only be posting confirmed specifications and hardware as we have been given access to so far. I must admit, with the Hothchips event a month ago, Microsoft seems to have been much more forthcoming about alot of its hardware than Sony. That said, let us begin the comparison.

The main components being compared are CPU, GPU, RAM, and BUS. This is what we know thus far, weeks from launch:

CPU:

PS4 = 8 core Jaguar processor. 1.6 GHz. 1 thread per core, and 2 ops per thread, for a total of 16 ops according to Sony.

X1 = 8 core CPU processor. 1.75 GHz. No detailed structure thus far, but Microsoft has confirmed that it performs 48ops total.

Point: X1, at the above specs, X1 CPU will have up to 3 Times the performance of PS4 CPU.

GPU:

PS4 = AMD SI based GPU. 800 MHz. Organized as 14:4 GPU: GPGPU split with 2 disabled CU’s. 1.84 Tflops of Raw performance.

X1 = AMD SI based GPU, 853 MHz. Again, no detailed structure thus far from Microsoft, but they have confirmed 768 ops per clock. 1.3 Tflops Raw performance

.

Point: PS4, PS4 has a 30% more raw Tflop count, as well as additional ROP’s, and ACE’s that should aid it in rendering. X1 structure has been silent as to the GPU internals it should be noted.

RAM:

PS4 = 8 GB of GDDR5. 176 GB/s Bandwidth.

X1 = 8 GB of DDR3. 68 GB/s Bandwidth + 47 MB of ODESRAM, 204 GB/s or higher Bandwidth.

Point: TIE. X1 has gone with a cheaper, faster, but more complicated route, the system should have no problem pushing around about 190-200 GB/s between the pools of ram as stated on Digital Foundry interviews, but this will come at a cost of more complicated use. The PS4 on the other hand went with a more expensive, but easier to use single pool of fast ram with a higher latency (opposed to X1's two pools, one extremely fast, one slow), but should be easier to develop for.

BUS:

PS4 = 3 Bus Pipelines. Onion, Garlic and Super Onion. These allow for HAS and Huma operations between processor and GPU in connection to the GDDR5 RAM.

X1 = 8 Bus Pipelines, 2x256 Bit Buses with 4 lanes each. One pipeline to the ODESRAM, and one to the DDR3 RAM. Additional Bus Pipelines to the CPU on both the DDR3 and the ODESRAM, as well as various Bus Pipelines to the Audio, Video, and Memory controllers and Kinect.

Point: X1, as it may be a more complicated solution with the multitude of Bus Pipelines and structures to all of these components, however the two main Pipelines are extremely robust: 2x4 lane 256 Bit Bus Pipelines will be able to move a MASSIVE amount of data while allowing the GPU/CPU to offload the work to the other systems like sound and memory.

OPTICAL DRIVE:

PS4 = BluRay

X1 = BluRay

Point: TIE. MS wised up and went with the most popular physical media currently.

HDD:

PS4 = 500 GB Removeable. 5200 RPM.

X1 = 500 GB Permanent. 7200 RPM. + 8GB Flash Memory HDD.

Point: TIE. PS4 HDD is removable, but slower. X1 is permanent, but faster, with an additional Solid State Flash Memory Drive.

EXTERNAL HDD:

PS4 = Will support after launch for storage.

X1 = Will support after launch for storage, game installation, HDD extentsion.

Point: X1, as game installation and ADD extension to external drive means it will actually be easier to increase disk space on the X1 than it will be removing the internal HDD on the PS4.

CLOUD:

PS4 = Gaikai Streaming, cloud storage for achievements. 12K cloud server infrastructure.

X1 = Free Dedicated Servers for all Multiplayer game developers. Unlimited storage for Gold members. Cloud compute powering games. 300K cloud server infrastructure. 700 Million invested in server technology just for gaming on X1.

Point: X1. Not very hard to see the differences here.

CONTROLLERS:

PS4 = Dual Shock 4

X1 = Xbox One updated controller

Point: TIE. Mostly a matter of preference.

CAMERA:

PS4 = Eye. 720p dual camera system with 4x directional microphone receivers. Possible voice commands. Not included.

X1 = Kinect 2.0. 1080p. 3d vision. IR blast. Tru3d heat sensor. Dark room tech (no lights required to use) Facial recognition. Voice recognition. Voice command. Internal processor. Included in every box.

Point: X1.

AUDIO:

PS4 = Dedicated audio processor with bulk of processing directly on CPU/GPU.

X1 = Dedicated audio processor capable of processing almost all Audio and Kinect functions without using CPU/GPU resources.

Point: X1.

MOVE ENGINES:

PS4 = None.

X1 = Move Engines are separate internal processing hardware that will allow the system to move data around without using CPU/GPU resources.

Point: X1

VIDEO DSP:

PS4 = DSP for up scaling, compression, decompression, video streams.

X1 = DSP for encode, decode, compress, decompress, up scaling, rasterazation, and 4x swizzle operations, as well as steaming video, all on three separate channels.

Point: X1. Upscaled resolutions will likely fair far better on the X1. This will be most visually apparent in 4K gaming in the distant future.

CONCLUSION:

Beyond the GPU raw performance argument, it is apparent that X1 has has a slight edge over the PS4 in terms of confirmed specs overall. Since each system is designed around an APU with key differences, the raw GPU performance argument is much different than arguing GPU specs on a traditional PC. The end result is going to show up in the games being released for each system.

It's always about the games.

Thus far, both systems are showing marked achievements in games such as Killzone: Shadow Fall, Ryse, Forza 5, Killer Instinct and Infamous 3. But this is just the tip of the iceberg my friends.

These games at or around launch are just barely showing us the power in each console. They were likely developedfor the most part on hardware much different than the final specs and drivers we will see at launch.

Exciting times are ahead, and neither of these consoles should be underestimated. No matter your fancy.

<< LINK REMOVED >> For fear of our debate becoming paragraphs and paragraphs of replying taking an hour or more to write, I am going to address and debate a few things at a time, if that's ok. Another thing, please don't assume that when I say things, I mean them in the most belligerent and stupidest way possible (like when you were addressing the Cloud Compute thing). In addition, you still did not provide factual data. Anyone can throw technical terms around if they know what they mean, but the real scientists back up their "deductive reasoning" with real data.

On that subject, I will start with Cloud Compute and clear that up. First, I was talking completely about online play, which we all know requires a server, and in that respect, Microsoft has PS4 beat. Their dedicated servers (I know that "the cloud" is a fancy name) allow for a near-endless resource to compute data and with small packets of data being sent back, which Xbox One's GPU is designed for (processing large amounts of small data), Xbox One is the superior online console. As everything is being moved to "the cloud". Also, we both know that Xbox 360 is an old console, and because of the online support, kept going.

Going back to specs, just saying that because PS4 has a different not better GPU than Xbox One, does not mean it's better. I'm pretty sure that Microsoft knew about the specs of PS4 and chose a different GPU for a reason. And the only hardware "advantage" (if you insist to call it that) that PS4 has is the GPU. Microsoft (in that respect) is looking out for the future not for the present hardware junkies.

Source: << LINK REMOVED >> Make sure that you read the whole thing, if you do. This, in conclusion allows for a "faster GPU" and more flexibility.

Finally, and this isn't apart of my argument, as I know better to be a trolling jerk, but you make yourself out to be a self-involved, ignorant, disdainful prick. And that's "real and based on hard data".

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> Well, he is right. Memory bandwidth and GPU power are going to be on PS4 side. We still don't know how much will "cloud computing" adds to X1 gameplay, but based on my understanding of IT, it cannot supplement for lacklustre graphics. It might be able to improve AI calculations, make management of MMO games (like Planetside 2) easier etc., but it will not render and stream visuals to every console in real time - not without horrid lag penalty and lack of consistence.

As it is, PS4 hardware advantage is real, while "cloud" and ESRAM are, at present, not much more than marketing talk and damage control - we still don't have a real life scenario where cloud-computing brings signifficant advantage, explained to the details. In addition, we don't know how much more advanced PSN will be, compared to its current iteration, considering that it also moves from free to pay-to-play scenario. That Sony isn't talking much about new PSN structure doesn't mean much, as Sony is focusing on console itself, while MS is trying to draw consumers' attention from console to their services.

That being said, I think IW did lazy job with X1 version of COD. Maybe they didn't utilize ESRAM at all, which makes sense - there is no PC graphics card with DDR3 capable of running modern games in 1080p with high level of details, and this is where X1 is without ESRAM. With ESRAM optimization, they might be able to close the gap a bit, but only in specific scenarios, and only at the price of making developers' life much harder with optimization complexity - not unlike the scenario developers were facing with PS3 Cell processor.

@theo1143 Ultimately, both the PS4 and the Xbox One will be fun consoles to own because they will both have some good exclusives. But, the PS4 is definitely much stronger vs. the Xbox One than the PS3 is vs. the 360. This is simply a fact and can be proven scientifically. I know math is hard, but it's worth it in order to understand the universe within which we live...;)

@ XBOX Fan boys: Guys, how in the world can Microshaft charge me 100$ more for a console that can't even do 1080p which is a regulation these days ??? Not one game, but in fact, MOST games I am hearing about are 720p on the XBONE and 1080p on the PS4. What does this tell me? it tells me this VCR/Cable Box hybrid is an ugly marketing gimmick slapped on the faces of consumers in the pretext of next gen gaming/entertainment. It's absurd. Go on and have fun with it guys cause I know where my money is going. - A hardcore XBOX 360 fan

<< LINK REMOVED >> I think the cheapest I could put together a good gaming PC using a roughly equivalent GPU to the PS4 (7850 or 7870) would be about $1000. Perhaps you could do it for $800 if you skimp on component quality/capacity/speed. But, that is still double the cost of the PS4, which for *most* American families is outside their budget for a gaming machine. Throw in the complexity of building it and getting most games to work and its a deal-breaker. I love PC gaming and believe Steam is bringing us closer to plug n play PC gaming...but we're not there yet. Barriers to entry are lower than they used to be but still much higher than the simplicity of consoles.

@klugenbeel @mjswooosh And you will still miss more than 50% of good games being released exclusively on consoles, or even multiplatform consoles-only releases.

Much as I am concerned, real gamers play games, not hardware. Which is why I always try to have decent PC and at least one current-gen console. Regardless of how much more potent my PC is, I'd miss all the God of War, Uncharted, Resistance, Rachet and other exclusive franchises, and having played them, I think it would be a loss.

Resolution is kind of a big deal especially since both parties M$ & Sony said 1080p is what Next Gen consoles can handle.
So far both haven't proved this . Battlefield 4 on both next gen consoles can't handle it at 1080p. Atleast 1 of the 2 consoles will actually be 1080p native for Ghosts. I already planned on getting PS4 over XBOne just because the $100 difference.

F*ck this 1080p vs 720p nonsense.

As long as it does not affect fish AI, I don't care.

<< LINK REMOVED >> only way I can tell a difference between 720, and 1080 is if im on my PC monitor. When I 8 foot away on my plasma with my HTPc playing games I honestly can't tell a difference, other than some jaggies, but that's why I use 8X AA filtering.

<< LINK REMOVED >> It's easy to tell the difference on my 65" plasma from 12 feet. 720p looks blurry/jagged/washed out by comparison.

720p upscaled is technically 1080i, not 1080p. interpolated to 1080 not true 1080P. Please correct your information.

<< LINK REMOVED >> You're so wrong it hurts. P = Progressive, i = interlaced.

720p or 1080p means all horizontal lines on screen are rendered all at once per frame.

720i or 1080i means ever other horizontal line is rendered in one frame then the missing lines are rendered in the following frame. This can often notice in video where the camera pans left to right the edges of objects break up and lose their sharpness.

<< LINK REMOVED >> Wrong. 1080i and 720p are NOT the same thing. 1080i is "interlaced" while 1080p is "progressive". Both are 1080 resolution and have 50% more pixels on the screen than 720p. Please research before spreading false information.

<< LINK REMOVED >> interesting, cause my TV says 1080P when even the PS3, and xbox 360 upscales to 1080.

Forza 5, native 1080p - 60FPS

Ryse, best looking game at launch. (I really dont care about its specs because it looks phenomenal and superior to any PC title out there)

CoD is a joke and has been a joke for the past 5 years especially in the graphics department.

@DJMist Ryse looks like a QTE-fest mess that will be in the bargain bin within 3-6 months for $15.

From what I am hearing Battlefield 4 is the same way. I preordered them both but I was leaning towards the XBox being my go to system but with all the news about it not even being to run in 1080P on multiplatform games, and Ryse Son of Rome I am worried. I know that XBox live will probably be better and the fact that most of these games being developed for at least 5 systems is a problem, but, it was up to Microsoft who pretty much has a lock on PC gaming with Windows and the fact that even some of the tools used to make these games might have run on the Windows OS (dont quote me I am only guessing about that) to understand what these developers needs are to make these games. To be fair though this is the first Generation where PC was better than console at launch.

<< LINK REMOVED >> I agree Live has been a better gaming service and I've been a paying Live member for several years. However, there's no guarantee it will remain better now that Sony is charging for PS+. I'm guessing Sony will improve PS+ ecosystem quite a bit now that they have extra revenue to put into it. Also, as an aside, I'm a recent PS+ subscriber and I am shocked at the Free GAMES value that Sony essentially gives away with PS+. It's much better than MS's "Games with Gold" promotion as the games are new and there's tons of them instead of the 2 shovel-ware games MS has been giving away with Gold. All in all I think the value on PS+ is already better...and if they improve the online gaming ecosystem at all then MS is going to be forced to make some improvements as well and start offering better free games.
