Interplay announced today that it will publish Rage Software's latest game, Hostile Waters: Antaeus Rising. The game, which was previously called simply Hostile Waters, has been in development for over three years, and it has made several appearances at trade shows. Antaeus Rising takes place on Earth in the year 2032. Earth has become a utopian environment where the governments of the world are united and war is no longer a problem. Unfortunately, a group of old-world leaders who benefited from war seeks to destroy the balance and return Earth to its war-driven economic state by bombing different countries. The only way to fight this organization is to raise an old ship known as the Antaeus, which is capable of manufacturing tanks, choppers, and planes using its nanofactory. Each of these vehicles is controlled by the minds of dead pilots and crewman who have been downloaded onto chips called Soulcatchers, which can be reused in additional craft.
In Hostile Waters: Antaeus Rising, you must take control of the Antaeus and build various types of craft to engage the enemy organization on the battlefield. Like other real-time strategy games, you can give different orders to your units and watch them go to work; however, you can also directly control 15 onscreen units and fight alongside other units in a third-person perspective. Many of the puzzles and mission objectives require you to actually coordinate your efforts with the NPC units, which Rage Software hopes will give the single-player mode a distinct multiplayer feel. The level of technology you have at your disposal increases as you progress through the game.
Hostile Waters: Antaeus Rising is currently scheduled to ship in Q2 2001.
