Apple today announced an all-new iPhone 5S, the first ever mobile phone to include a 64-bit chip. The company described the new smartphone as the "most forward-thinking phone anyone's ever made." It will be available on September 20 starting at $200 on contract for a 16GB model.

"The PC world made the transition from 32-bit to 64-bit and it took years. Today you're going to see that Apple is going to do it on one day," Apple said today during a press event attended by CNET.

Battery life for the iPhone 5S will be equal or greater than the iPhone 5, including 10 hours of 3G talk time, 10 hours of LTE browsing, 10 hours of video, 40 hours for music, and 250 hours on standby.

Apple also touted the iPhone 5S' new camera, saying it will boast "SLR-level" quality. The camera will also include a new True Tone Flash that will analyze and present the proper-color flash for a certain situation.

It will also feature a new Burst Mode that shoots ten frames-per-second and automatically chooses the "best" image. A new 120 frames-per-second slow-motion feature for video is also included with the camera.

The iPhone 5S also introduces Touch ID, a new security feature for the phone. Built into the home button, it will read a user's fingerprint and unlock the phone that way. Multiple fingerprints can be registered on a single device and it can also be used to make iTunes purchases.

Also during the event Chair Entertainment cofounder and creative director Donald Mustard revealed Infinity Blade III. It will be available available in the App Store alongside the new iPhone 5S as a launch-day game.

Apple explained during the event that the iPhone 5S has 56X the performance of the original iPhone and twice the power of the iPhone 5. It will run Open GL-ES 3.0 for gaming.

"This means that graphics-intense applications can bring their console- and desktop-level performance to the iPhone 5S," the company said.

The 8GB iPhone 4S will be sold as a free phone (with contract) beginning September 20.

They should just call it another overpriced apple product for idiots with too much money, no doubt it will have the usual great apple designs with the easy to break screen , difficult and expensive to replace the battery and of cause no memory slot , you'll just have buy the expensive model for a at least $100 + instead of a memory card for $30 like in other brands.Wake up , this company is ripping you off to the max.

Yes hopefully apple fan boys will wake up, like Xbox consoles owners did that MS is heartless & soulless company that doesn't give a rats ar$e about its customers , it's only interested in screwing every last buck out of them , just like Apple.

I hope Apple sales have slowed due to Apple buyers waking up to the fact off being ripped off by the corporate designs you mentioned and not that the idiots are running out off money. I can't see 64 bit and fingerprint reader helping 99% of buyers unless they just want to jerk themselves off by having latest.(but sadly I think that is the biggest reason for sales )

those complaining about the NSA say "I hate the NSA. They are encroaching on my privacy" If they had kids and one of them was kidnapped and the NSA had a way to find that child.."OH GOD PLEASE NSA!!! PLEASE FIND MY CHILD!!"

Looks like Samsung is also going to introduce 64 bit on their next smartphones...

As usual, Apple sets the trend and others follow. So it's like follow the leader.

Companies are so uncreative these days..

It has an amazing screen and great graphical capabilities.

If they just made a controller attachment with, you know, buttons then maybe it would actually be able to provide high quality gaming experiences like those found on the Vita and 3DS

Current touchscreens can already read your fingerprints. You're complaining about a feature that uses this information when the bigger concern are the apps running in the background that you aren't aware of.

This is why new technology will never take off and we will never move forward as a race, because people are so paranoid and crazy about anything that involves any sort of identity. You think anybody needs to look at your fingerprint on a phone to get your info if they want it? There are tons of other easy ways to do so. Gosh people disappoint me so much.

@Bowser05 Not that im some kind of conspiracy freak, but governments would LOVE to have fingerprints and DNA from every one of its citizens. Or to have surveillance in every household.

I know they said in the video that the information about the fingerprint will be stored somewhere safe and not send to Apple or anywhere else, but still... as convenient as it may be, I have a bad feeling about this. Even if Apple are honest about this, this tech may be implemented by others in the future and they may not be that "secure".

Liking my Samsung Galaxy, but my wife will be interested in this one for sure.

Competition is good. Hate on Apple if you want, but you likely wouldn't have that great android OS if it weren't for Apple's iOS.

@SIDEFX1 Are you retarded? You say that Apple phones are for stupid people, yet you can't figure out what biometric security might be used for on a phone. You sum up the mentality of so many Apple haters with your stupidity.

Haha omg. You should really not call anyone retarded or stupid, you are the definition. A little lesson for you (don't worrie, it's not about all this technical stuff, I know that's way beyond you level of understanding). When you end a sentence with a question mark ( ? ), its a QUESTION. This is why it is called a question mark. Get it?I'm sure your teacher/trainer will give you a banana and maybe even let you out of your cage when you show her what you have learned :)

@SIDEFX1 @jellyman68 It's even worse if your laptop has a fingerprint scanner and you still couldn't figure out what one might be used for on the iPhone.

@user_pt That cracked me up. Of course they did it in one day, they only have one product line and it's one company.

Of course this totally ignores all of the other smartphone manufacturers. But when has reality ever stopped the Apple marketing machine?

64bit CPU, and the m7, amazing camera and fingerprint scanner. Really cool features for an s update. It's not for people who like numbers (more megapixels!!! Whooohooo). This is a fantastic update.

@cristianvs The thing is is that this really isn't a fantastic update, a 64bit CPU is marketing fluff. A smartphone has no reason for the address space of a 64 bit processor. Not until it has to address more than 4GB of RAM, and that won't be for several years. The M7 yanks some of the motion sensing off the CPU but whos to say how much processing power that uses anyway... The camera you can't comment on until someone uses it in the real world. The fingerprint scanner is kinda cool but its a gimmick that's all. I love apple design but they need to put the tech in to justify the price.

@cristianvs You could make believe that it's marketing fluff and pretend you understand the A7 architecture, or you could look at actual benchmarks showing a huge boost. http://www.anandtech.com/show/7335/the-iphone-5s-review/4

64 bit is not fluff and its about more than memory. It means that the CPU can Handel a word in each cycle. That wouldn't be anything on an android sure, but since apple makes the iOS the API and many of the apps it's absolutely important. The m7 seems cool but sure, it needs to be tested to see what it can do.

I am a photographer and the iPhone has always had the best cameras (people who understand photos don't read Megapixels and think its good). A bigger sensor is the best thing they can do, instead of packing more pixels into a already small sensor.

Fingerprint scanner will be mostly beneficial for companies who value security sure, but that's not a bad thing. And also a good for me (and I bet many others) who don't use a password. Making it easier to secure your phone.
