iPhones With Fortnite Installed Are Being Listed At A Huge Markup On Ebay
In case you need to be told, buying one of these is a really dumb idea.
Thanks to Epic Games' very messy legal battle with Apple, there's currently no way to play Fortnite on an iPhone unless you already had it installed or downloaded it previously. Ahead of Season 4's launch, some people are looking to cash in on that conundrum by listing iPhones with Fortnite installed on Ebay, with markups over $3000, as picked up by Eurogamer.
This phenomenon may sound familiar to gamers, as a similar thing happened when PS4 consoles with the now-inaccessible PT installed on them were put up for sale at eye-watering prices. It's a little different with iPhones, however--considering the download would be tied to your iCloud account, selling a phone with Fortnite would mean it would have to be sent unwiped and still connected to your personal account.
Some of the listings that came up when I searched had bids on them, including one for over $5000 on a Fortnite-boasting iPhone 11 Pro Max, a phone that can be found for just over $1000 new. "Game is unreal and will never be on iphone again very rare," reads the listing description. Another asked for a starting bid of $7500 for an iPhone X with Fortnite, with a "buy it now" price of $9999. "Has Fortnite installed, a top rated game no longer found on the Apple App Store," the listing reads. "If you want to play Fortnite on a high resolution, top of the line iPhone, this is your best option."
Needless to say, buying an iPhone with Fortnite on it off Ebay is not your best option, nor even a good option. With the game off the App Store, Epic will be unable to push updates to the game, which will preclude players from upcoming new content and will render these versions of the game unplayable very soon.
