On February 28, Jason Sudeikis won the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a TV Series, Musical or Comedy. He won the award for his role in Ted Lasso, the Apple TV+ original series. This is the first award for the Saturday Night Live alumni.

Sudeikis seemed genuinely stunned by the award, not knowing what to say during his acceptance speech for his role as the titular character. "I kind of reject the premise of being the best actor because in my humble opinion, the best actor is the person you're acting with," explained Sudeikis. "I want to give a shoutout to all the people I get to act with on this show because they're incredible. Do they make me the best? No, but I know for a fact they make me better than I am, better than I thought I could be, better than anything I could do."

During his speech, Don Cheadle--also a nominee for the award--gave Sudeikis the "wrap it up" hand motion as a joke. "You're right, " Sudeikis said. "I got to wrap this puppy up. Never been my forte."

Sudeikis was up against Cheadle for Showtime's Black Monday, Nicholas Hoult for Hulu's The Great, Eugene Levy for Pop TV's Schitt's Creek, and Ramy Youssef for Hulu's Ramy. Ted Lasso was a breakout hit last year, and made GameSpot's Top 10 TV Shows of 2020 list.

Aside from being his first Golden Globe win, it was also his first nomination. However, he may win some more in the coming months. He's been nominated for two Screen Actors Guild Awards--Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Comedy Series and Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series. We'll find out if Sudeikis will get a couple more wins on Sunday, April 4.
