Production is underway on Joker: Folie à Deux, as director Todd Phillips revealed the first photo of the sequel on Instagram. The picture shows Arthur Fleck (Joaquin Phoenix) receiving a shave from an unknown man with a razor blade. It's possible this barber session is set within Arkham Asylum.

Phillips added it's "day one" as well as "our boy" alongside the image. Phoenix won't be alone as the Crown Prince of Crime in Joker 2. Lady Gaga will star alongside him, rumored to portray Harley Quinn. It's also been hinted that the sequel will be a musical.

Oscar-nominated actress Catherine Keener and Brendan Gleeson also have been cast in Joker: Folie à Deux. It's unknown at this time whom they will play in the sequel. Zazie Beetz is reportedly returning as Sophie Dumond, too.

Meanwhile, Phoenix will apparently receive quite the payday for coming back. He's reported to get $20 million for reprising his role in Joker 2. The actor won an Oscar for his portrayal of the Batman villain in the first film, which brought in over $1 billion worldwide.

It's a tumultuous time overall for the DC film universe at Warner Bros. Discovery, though. Wonder Woman 3 was reportedly canned with director Patty Jenkins. New DC head honchos James Gunn and Peter Safran are building their own future plans, and that may possibly change quite a bit of what's come before. There are even rumors that Henry Cavill won't return as Superman after all following his surprise cameo in Black Adam.

Joker: Folie à Deux will premiere October 4, 2024. Phillips is helming the sequel and also co-wrote the script with Scott Silver.
